It is possible that they realize that houses cost money even after they are built (taxes, maintenance etc...). They are protecting both their and the volunteers investments of time and money, as well fiscal well being of the recipient. People who do not have enough funding are offered other homes through HUD for rent and most likely are on welfare. I don't feel that individuals on welfare should be counted on financially to provide for the funding needed to maintain or to pay taxes on their free home. It seems to me that they are doing a better job of policing their money than the banks that have been extremely irresponsible by lending money to people unable to pay, thus putting many families out of their homes and causing a plummit in the value of the homes of all Americans.

Habitat for Humanity in Fremont has built 40 homes for families in need since 1993. They are currently building houses 41 and 42, but houses aren't free. They are more than willing to help families that qualify, but can't build houses for people with no job or make less than $14,200 per year.

How poor is poor?
When you are turned away by habitat for humanity for being to poor.
It's sad when you are to poor to get their help, I thought that is what they were there for?
To help the needy, no help for a mother and her child with 2 kids.

PROS: Must me helping someone
CONS: All the people that are turned away that are trying to better their life's
