We have two children 11 and 6 years. Both were students of RedHill Montessori. 11-year old was with this school for 3 years and 6-year old was there for 4+ years. We live in Novi with about 15 miles away from this school. Both of our children are now in Northville public schools. Choosing this school for our children was one of the greatest gifts given to them. This school has provided best all-round curriculum that our kids can absorb. Both have received structured and well-organized academics and extra-curricular activities including Music, PE and field-trips. As parents, we have encouraged our kids to follow teachers' directions and complete Homework. That's all we did for our kids during their stay at RedHill (formerly Farmington Hills Montessori School). Both of our kids are doing great in Northville public schools with advanced-curriculum, they are well-behaved and both are all-around thinkers in Maths, Science, History, and Geography subjects (at their grade+1 levels). As parents, we would like to thank Ms. Leila, Mr. David, and other teachers and staff in providing gifted talent and valuable skills. Ms. Leila has been very kind to us during our 7-year association with school, and she has given individual attention to our children. Mr. David is very active and well-organized teacher whom our kids like the most. Mr. David has great energy and unlimited enthusiasm in teaching new/advanced topics on regular basis. Our kids like recently built Gym and soccer play-ground. Our younger kid told us his RedHill Gym teacher is much better than his current school Gym teacher. Finally, we can sincerely say we have selected right school (even though it is far from our home) and NOW our kids are benefitting the MOST in their new classes.

All I can say is WoW! Red Hill Montessori is an excellent school. My son has attended Red Hill for 3 years and I must say I am completely pleased with the education he is receiving. The teachers are very dedicated and nurturing to the students. They gently encourage all of the students to do their very best. That is why the students excel academically. In addition to all the successful teaching going on at Red Hills, it possesses a family atmosphere that will give any parent comfort that their child will be cared for. Last, I must mention that the director, Leila Charleworth has a vested interest in the academic growth of all of the students. She personally listens to every student read and calls the parents just to see how the school year is going. Red Hill is a wonderful place for a child to be educated.

I have had such a tremendously wonderful experience with my daughter at Red Hill. My daughter, now 6 is beginning her 3rd year at the school; and she has not been an easy child to teach! The owner, Leila Charlesworth and her staff have been extremely patient with her. We had to work together to ensure my daughter's progress. It wasn't easy being told my daughter was a disruptive, disrespectful child. But by meeting with Leila and her staff, we put her on a development path that lead to a remarkable outcome! I am proud to announce that my child is now reading books and adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers!

I couldn't be happier with her present teacher, David who in my estimation is a saint. In fact, he will be taking his young wife and baby to Tanzania for 10 years to do missionary work in 2014. He truly is a loving, caring and nurturing teacher. One any parent would be thrilled to have.

Another beautiful advantage to sending my daughter to this school is that they teach the children development through singing and dance. The musical productions they put on in December and May are unlike anything I have ever seen. It was a true highlight to see my daughter gracefully dance on front and center stage!

I tried 2 other schools before making a home for my child at Red Hill Montessori and I'm thrilled my daughter is there.

It is with great sadness that I am writing this note in response to recent allegations. As some of you might already know, a former parent whose child was enrolled at our school had recently made malicious statements on this website clearly for personal and vindictive reasons. This parent??s detestable statement was aimed at hurting the academy by cruelly criticizing and spreading wrongful judgments and rumors about our school as well as personally attacking me and other staff members?? credibility as educators.

As much as I am astounded and hurt by the vindictive statements made by this bitter and angry parent, I am not going to answer to those malicious statements and accusations. Instead however, I would like to take this opportunity to re-affirm my own as well as my team??s strong commitment to raising your children well and empowering them to reach their maximum potential in life. My own self as well as my team at Red Hill Montessori Academy feel privileged and honored to be working with you and your children and very much look forward to continuing to do this sacred work for many more years into the future.

Many blessings,

Leila Charlesworth, Director

As a parent of 3 children living in the Oakland County area I can honestly say after much research and numerous school visits I believe that Red Hill Montessori is the best school in Oakland County. I love the individual attention that is given to every child, and is based on said childs level and age. It's a very warm, friendly environment and the staff are wonderful. I have known Mr. David for over 3 years and find him to be a warm, loving, patient and kind teacher that teaches the whole child. 2 of my children still attend Red Hill Montessori and are thriving academically and as human beings. I highly recommend the school to any parent with children from infant to 5th grade.

As a parent I could not be happier with Red Hill Montessori. I looked at a ton of schools and none of them come anywhere close to this place in terms of teaching. This is not cookbook style montessori, it is a unique approach and the results are incredible- kids reading books by the time they are three, and loving to learn. Miss Leila the director knows a lot about children and is very honest and direct. If you want a fast food 'customer is always right' approach to your child's future, by all means seek out your local Kindercare. If you want to see your child bright, happy, energetic, with love for learning, this is the place for you.

Hello,
I find it very difficult to accept such directed negative attention about Red Hill Academy. Before a parent makes any decision about a school much research is required. I am specifically concerned about Ms. Najors personally and her responses. While her initial experience details such an excellent picture of the capabilities of the academy, her final postings would suggest otherwise. We all understand that no school is perfect and as parents this is where we should be responsible enough to participate in activities to stay abreast of activities and conditions in the school. At Red Hill Academy, rules and regulations are required to establish a good foundation for children. There is also a certain level of expectation between the institution and parents such as: assisting children with regular homework assignments, participating in special projects and programs, attending class on time, getting involved with classroom conflict/resolutions, attending parent ?? teaching conferences, evaluating your child??s experiences, paying tuition on time etc. We can either accept the responsibilities or revoke them.
For those parents who are dealing with the daunting decision of selecting a school, please take the time to build your own opinion. Schedule a time to call or even visit the academy. The director of the school is very open, yet straight forward. She understands that your child is there to get an education and to build lasting experiences. Parents need to take a closer look at what is required of children today as they develop. We must ask ourselves, ??Do we want our children to be a self-starters or consistent procrastinator? Do we want our children to be team players or self concerned individualist??
Please do not let someone else??s personal incidences perpetuate into the lost of a great foundation from your child. Please realize that if your life style is one that leaves you no time for regular home work and parenting responsibilities you will be quite disappointed. All the hard work required has been worth its weight in gold!

After experiencing three teachers in one year, I pulled my two sons from Red Hill. As an educator myself, I was shocked to see such a high turnover rate at the school. My sons went through a lot of transition and change having to get used to a new teacher every three months. With what I was paying and for what my kids had to go through, I had enough. I later found out that Leila didn't tell the truth about why the teachers left which only added to my disappointment. Dealing with her was very difficult and I had to have my husband take over. Enough is enough.

** Parent's Warning ** Do Not Send Your Child!! ** July 2010 It is with shock and deep regret that I am sending a strong warning to parents NOT to send their children to Red Hill Academy. The five-star "rave review" you might read below was written by me last year (entitled, "Best Pre-School in Michigan), and at that time, what I wrote was true. Back then, the school was filled with competent, loving teachers, among them -- Mr. Gabe, Miss Ouzanna and Miss Annmarie. Those teachers have all quit or been fired. One has to wonder why, in my opinion, such beloved teachers have left the school. I am deeply concerned about what appears to be a higher than average hiring practice. Based on my personal experience this July, I did something I never thought I would do -- I re-enrolled my son in summer school and pulled him out within one week. Why did I do this? Because after enrollment, I learned that as a kindergartener, one of the teachers physically pulled my son out of his chair causing him to cry. In disbelief, I contacted other parents and staff who remembered and corroborated this incident. Upon questioning my son, he described the incident as "really scary." During a meeting to discuss this incident with Miss Leila and the teacher, the incident was denied. But that wasn't the worst part for me. The worst part was the complete lack of personal responsibility for the incident despite evidence to the contrary. Not once did Miss Leila offer to investigate. Not once did she apologize for even a "hint" of inappropriate behavior in the classroom. My conversation with Leila and the teacher turned contenscious and produced three things -- denial, anger and blame. How can a school claim to promote personal responsibility and character building when they don't embody these values at the top? My experience is that this is an environment that has the propensity to blame you and your child for any problems or challenges in the classroom. My experience is that when you ask to discuss issues related to your child, you will experience long lectures and unsolicited parenting advice. You may, as I did, experience having to hear your child referred to as "lazy" when you voice your concerns about their struggles with their work. And most sadly of all, you may -- as I did -- witness your child go from being joyous and happy at the thought of going to school to voicing fear and anxiety, only to be lectured to about the value of tough love, discipline and the benefits of being "strict." As for this mother, I look to my son to tell me how I'm doing as a parent. Soft words, tons of involvement and a nurturing environment have created a happy, funny, loving, generous, kind-hearted 7 year-old boy who is beloved by parents and teachers alike. I'm agreeing with you, Leila, that Michael doesn't belong at Red Hill. I can do better for my son.

Cons: Miss Leila's poor leadership, inappropriate teacher behavior

.

My daughter was a student there. I transfered her to another school because , Lelia was so rude when I told her what my concerns were. She called me all kinds of names in front of other parents. I was shocked that she handle the situation in that manner. I have never been spoke to like that. . She does not know how to handle situations maturely and professionally. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

I have worked at Red Hill for the past 7 months. Teamwork is number one with staff, students and parents. I am amazed at the academic advancement I see on a daily basis with students as young as 18 months. This truly is a remarkable school, stop by and see for yourself.

We visited the school and then spoke to some people about this school. Did not get a very good feeling. Seem too focused on academics and does not seem to follow the Montessori method of education that they claim to do. Visited some other schools nearby and found one that we liked.
Have also heard that the director is very rude sometimes and the school has a very high staff turnover. If you are looking for a school, do your homework and also visit other schools in the area before you decide.
But the school does have a very nice location. If you work nearby, it may be a convenient place to put your child.

I have been working at Red Hill Montessori for five years now. I feel that I am a member of a great dedicated family. Ms. Leila is extremely competent, fair and supportive to her staff, students and parents. The students learn a lot, they enjoy their Spanish, music and dance classes. They have fun at the gym. The teachers at Red Hill Montessori are very dedicated and supportive. We have a parent s advisory board where the communication is always open. I love coming to school everyday to be with the children and watch them learn and grow. It is a joy to work at a school where the parents and teachers come together as one community.

The Quality of academic programs is excellent. My 3 year old daughter is reading, writing and doing these things independently. The availability of music, art, and sports is exceptional, I really could not ask for more as a parent. Parent involvement is encouraged and with the homework you can see first hand the fast rate of accomplishment with your child. I could not imagine a better school, staff, administration, teachers, parents and children. They are all great. I would recommend this school to anyone wanting the very best education for their child

Very disappointing experience overall. I do not believe that learning for kids should be so stressful.
