I've been coming here literally since birth. My parents went here as kids and I know the place better than my own house. \r

I feel that the prices are very fair considering the amount of entertainment provided in the cost. You get all

Here's what happened. Sitting on a bench at Valleyfair today with wife and kids, relaxing on a hot day drinking water. Some punk security guard, out of the blue, approaches me says " Sir, I'll need to smell what's in your bottle." I told him "NO, I don't want a stranger's nose in my water bottle." He told me unless I let him smell my water, I'd have to dump it out--otherwise they would carry me out of the park and he called for back-up on his little walkie-talkie. Now, the last thing I wanted was to get hauled off by the cops, right in front of my children for something so absurd. So I let the little wierdo rent-a-cop smell my water. And he left. Sad thing, this scene that Valleyfair caused was on my son's birthday. That's why we were family was there. We lft right after, never to return. Unless you want to be humiliated for no reason in front of your kids, STAY AWAY FROM VALLEYFAIR!

Pros: close to cities

Cons: capricious security guards--ruins the whole day

The kids love the rides, big plus.
The food is very expensive, don't expect $5 footlongs form their subway. You can either buy a $3.50 bottle of water or pop or drink from their communal water fountain of germs, because heaven forbid they catch you with outside beverages they actually will confiscate it from you or escort you to the front gate. Great way to stay hydrated!!
When ordering something you may find yourself repeating: huh, pardon, what, excuse me I didn't get that; a lot of the time due to their exchange employees that can barely speak English. They also have great difficulty counting change.
Beware of the front gate if you are heavy, they expect you to squeeze through the tight turn-style, an embarrassing moment for heavy set people, but when you go into customer service they tell you to go through the handicap entrance when you go over there you are pointed to the turn-style, we have actually had an employee take a season pass from us because the person refused to use the turn-style, which we were told the employees can not do and was told he would not work the front gates again, only to go back the next week and guess who was their and pulled the same stuff again to be told we wouldn't see him again at the front gate , well that time we didn't see him the rest of the summer, but come valleyscare guess who!! He pulled the same crap, this time we went as high up as we could as were told he would no longer be employed at the park, we were also told from now on heavyset people will automatically have the choice to go through the turn-style of handicap/stroller entrance. That was two seasons ago, last season are overweight companions had no trouble they were directed to the larger entrance and everything was great!! This year however they are starting again and we must raise a stink again.

Pros: kids have fun

Cons: Expensive, Hard to understand employees, heavy people beware

The park has wonderful rides, and the water and kiddie park is fun. They usually add a new fun ride each year. However, the park is too expensive PERIOD. I remember way back then when it was affordable.

Here are ways you can get discount tickets for 2009:
If you know someone who works for Postal Service they can order you as many tickets as you want (25$ each)before july 31st. Or they can lend you their postal badge to bring and show the admissions for 25, but only for July. You can also go to cubs for 31$. Regions hospital sells it for $28 at the gift shop. Postal credit union bank in north st. paul sells for $25 but you must pay in cash if you're not a member. I usually go to PCU and if they have no more, regions hospital it is. DQ and Tacojohns (or tacobells?) give it to you for 7 dollars off. Pepsi cans have discounts on it too for 7 dollars.
Lastly, Go search on craigslist. A few years ago, I bought some from a person selling them for 20. Hope this helps :]

Pros: Rides, waterpark

Cons: parking, admission AND food pricings!

I went to valleyfair for the first time on a school trip.
we only had to pay $19.95 because they school paid for most of the rest. I brought my own lunch, and left it in the bus, because food there is so expensive, but that is sort of expected from all amusement parks. Our school's 8th grade class went on the second-to-last day of school, but we probably should have chosen better timing, because that was the day that most of minnesota's school were going, too. We went from about 10:00 to 6:00, and it was a lot of fun. My only issues were the prices of everything, and the lines, but I guess that is okay, because a lot of the rides were worth standing in line for. I'm going again with my family soon, and I am very much looking forward to it.

I agree with most people here - prices are expensive but it is overall a really good time. I can maybe make it there once a year - due to prices, but I know a lot of places sell discounted tickets like right now Cub foods sells $7 dollar off tickets.

most of the time the lines aren't bad. Good advice: Go during a weekday (not close to a holiday), and save all the bigger rides for later in the day or very early in the morning. Bring a lunch with you - they can stamp your hand to get back into the park so you can eat outside on the picnic tables in the shade. Food is expensive, but some places you can find relatively cheap (for amusement parks, anyways) but its to be expected.

good hint: Go up to any stand and ask for a cup of icewater.....I think its a rule there that they have to give it to you for free. great way to stay hydrated!

This is great place to go for all ages. However they raised the prices almost as high as Disney's parks. They need to lower the prices so more people can afford to come.Al tough i will be again.

The kids had a blast, but I was a little perturbed that I had to pay for parking when there was no place else to park. Just add another couple dollars onto the cost of a ticket and let people park for free. The ticket cost is expensive, but I can get discount tickets at work.

I've been to valleyfair many times, because well, when you live in Minnesota, there is nothing much else to do here.

I used to have a blast here when I was younger and growing up, and they have added some rides over the years... But it seems they haven't added enough. In my opinion, looking at other cedar fair parks, it looks to be the weakest of the bunch.

Going on the same rides over and over again can get tiresome after a while. I mean, they have I think 6 or 7 coasters, which are okay, but there are really 3 that I really enjoy, the rest are so-so. The Wild Thing and the Renegade are a blast each time, and the Steel Venom can be fun, but it starts to get old pretty fast.

On flaw I can think of is lack of steel inverted coasters. They really need more of these here.

The biggest flaw is its waterpark. It's small, nothing much is there, and can get overcrowded. They need to add some other new slides, and most of all, a WAVEPOOL! A water park, a GOOD water park, isn't one without it, and they are sure due for one. Almost ever other good amusement park with a waterpark has one, so build one valleyfair!!

One more bad thing: Admission, pricing, and food is way overpriced. I mean, you should pay for what you get, and that isn't the case here.

Valley Fair is a great value.
Sure it is expensive to get in, but all amusement parks are pricey.
If you want to play, ya gotta pay!
Discount tickets can be found if you look around.
If you want to see a rip off go to Six Flags Great America in Chicago. There is a putrid smell of sewage throughout the park, and the bathrooms are truly a disaster, not just messy.
On our most recent visit to Valley Fair, we were able to go on about 15 rides in a 6 hour stretch. The lines are not a problem at all. If you tried to go more than a handful of rides at a different park, it would be tough. Valley Fair is a nice secret.
Seems most people there are from Minnesota, that is fine, let's not tell everyone how well maintained is or how clean it is.
Oh yeah one more thing....Renegade is a great wooden coaster, and Steel Venom is outrageous.

Cons: no "YOU ARE HERE" stickers on park maps

This park is expensive to get into and the service is awful, which anyone can understand. Any place ran by 16yr olds who just need a summer job can relate.
Everything inside the park is expensive and the bathrooms are usually dirty.
Another down side is there are no refunds at all, ever. The 2nd and last time we went to valleyfair (2yrs ago) we literally were sold the tickets walked in and where told all the rides had closed down due to weather, we were never compensated. 200$ gone. This was the last time me or my family ever went to Valleyfair we would not recommend it at all.
There are some other parks and water pool/parks in the twin cities I would recommend trying before going to Valley Fair.

ValleyFair is incredible in providing fantastic rides-- with new ones all the time. The roller coasters provide a lot of variety and compare very well to other parks across the country. The water rides get you wet (as expected) and there are a lot of rides for the little kids too.. I brought family with adults, teens and grandkids. something for everyone.

BEWARE OF THE FOOD PRICES however. What spoiled an otherwise incredible day was the food and services. I wouldn't mind paying these high prices if it was good quality and generous. I purchased a root beer float in a '16 ounce cup'. Yeah a 16 ounce cup - filled only half full with root beer. At the price, top it off or just use a smaller cup. The guy before me in line got a large cone and a small cone. They were about the same amount of ice cream., when asked the server pointed out the different size of cone to hold it. Ordered lunch for the group. The order of fries was nominal but the price was preimium. The cheese pizza was sized well, but for the price, it could have been hot and cheezy.-- all crust. They said they were serving a grilled buffalo chicken sandwich-- but it wasn't grilled chickin it was deep-fried.. They should be accurate in serving what they have posted.

Then to go to the water park and get gouged for a locker rental. Sure the water park is included-- but they find ways to extract signficant change for the rest.

Recommendation: Bring a picnic with you and enjoy it in the parking lot or picnic area and \then pick up maybe some cheese curds or cotton candy in the park.

If you buy beverages- buy the refillable if you are going to be there for the day. You proabably will come out ahead..

Valleyfair is a great place for whole family to go and hang out, not exactly cheap though. The prices go up about every year, but easy to find discounts on tickets. i have been going to Valleyfair every year since i was about 6, and it never gets old. About every 1-2 years they install a new ride, so every year theres always something new to do. And since the waterpark is free, there is a place to go and cool down if you get too hot. And if you forget your swimsuit and you need a towel or your shoes break or you forgot your sunglasses there are little shops where you can buy stuff like that. The food is exspensive, but you can bring food to grill or a premade picnic and you can go and eat it in the Picnic Cove or whatever its called. And there are fun rides, for big and little thrill seekers. There is even a Kids ride area for the little ones who aren't quite tall enough yet. Ther are games galore and many other things to do. Valleyfair is a great family place.

Valleyfair is the amusement park in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I have always had a fantastic time at Valleyfair; I even worked as a Stage Manager at one of their live theatres. Valleyfair offers many rides, games, food, live entertainment, and a water park-all for the price of a single admission ticket. The park is open 10 am to midnight in the key season in the summer. The park has something for everyone. It is extremely clean and well kept. One tip I have for people is to pack a lunch and leave it in your car. You can get your hand stamped, go eat your lunch, and go back in the park to enjoy your day. The employees are friendly here and you'll have a great time.

PROS: Water park
CONS: Parking is somewhat pricey..about $8.

I love ValleyFair! Not only have a visited the park since I was a kid, but I also worked there one summer! The price to get in is NOT bad. There are so many coupons available from eateries such as Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. They also USED to run a promo where you brought in a Pepsi product can and you received $10 off! They also do a food drive in the fall and if you bring in a non-perishable food item, you receive a dollar amount off! There have been 3 new rides added in the past 4 years (since 2002). You USED to be able to come and go from the park, so if you want to pack a lunch and eat at the picnic cove its much cheaper. they don't allow outside food or drink in, which is understandable. i recommend the tacos. they have a great taco stand near the high roller rollercoaster (the white coaster). they also have yummy chicken on the patio. the waterpark is super fun and included in the price. Yes, you pay for parking but you also pay for parking at baseball/football/basketball games...so i say quit complaining. :) I recently went to Busch Gardens and it cost $8 to park and over $50 to enter. Valleyfair is cheap and very fun!!!!

This is a fun place for the whole family. There is so many rides to choose from and they also offer shows . Come in the morning and stay all day. You buy an all day ticket. Fun for the whole family. This is also a great idea for a field trip. They offer many food and drink stands throughout the park, including gift shops and lockers if needed. For those hot days, they have water slides to cool off on. they have rides for all ages.

Valleyfair is definately a fun place to take the family if you are into exciting rides, food and fun. My favorite attraction at the park is definately The Wild Thing roller coaster! The price of the tickets is rather spendy but if you can make it out there the whole day and enjoy wild rides it is probably worth your money then. They do offer a small kiddie park for the younger kids. But otherwise i think the park is more geared at older kids and adults.

Valley Fair has something for everyone from roller coasters to kiddie rides to shows and the water park. It is very expensive to get in but you can get discount tickets and if you go the right time of the year you can get a really good deal. The food is expensive but so are most other places like this so you just have to consider it part of the price of going or if you really want you can bring a cooler and leave it in the car and go to the picnic area to eat. It does cost to park also. But it is really a fun place to spend the day.

Fun place to go if you like thrill rides and roller coasters. They also have some milder rides for those who are young and not so young. If you stand on the bridge at the flume ride, you will get soaked. they also have a water park that is free with admission if the weather is really hot. It can be expensive, but there is often discounts on coke cans and some retailers.

It can be expensive, but there is often discounts on coke cans and some retailers.

Though the ticket is expensive if you get at the gate there are lots of coupons to pick at the supermarket or at your office or at fast food restaurants. There are lot of rides for kids as well as adults. The IMAX theatre is fantastic. The food price is nominal and is worth visiting once a year during the summer. You can get maximum discount if you visit the park during the end of summer.

Being from California, I found it so strange that there would be an amusement park that is only open a few months out of the year. That being said, it is a great place! The price is definitely up there, but they have lots to offer, including a full water park as well! They have all the roller coasters you could want, and you can go lay out in the sun! (Try that at Disneyland!) If you have kids in the 10-18 age range, you might want to consider an annual pass. The annual passes are very reasonable if you purchase before December 31st for the next year. (like 80 or $90). Considering at peak season the daily passes are around 34.00! My kids aren't old enough to do that yet, but that is my plan for the future!

I love this place!!! I've been going here for almost eight years now! Even as an adult it is still a ton of fun! Yes, it can get pricey but so can all of the other amusement parks! There are so many rides and they are always making new rides. There is a ton of fun fair food like the corn dog, fried mozzerella and french fries. Every night you get to see the awesome firework shows Check out the area too called Challenge park and of course you can't forget all the fun things to do in the water park! Each year valley fair just gets bigger and better!

PROS: Lots to Do, Challenge Park, Rides, Water Park
CONS: Can get Pricey

I think Valley Fair is a great bargain if you purchase a season pass or go for their evening(after 5pm) special. Also, be sure to pack your own food, because that is definitely a rip off! If you are coming in from out of town for just a day there, it can be outrageously expensive(but still alot of fun!). Parking is terrible too--it is about $7-8 a car I think! They have alot of extras included in the price of admittance, but there are also extras you have to pay for. The rides are really good though and worth the price at least once! Oh, and the foam ball factory is different and the kids love it!

Waterpark and coasters, picnic area and little kids' mini-park, shows and Imax - Valleyfair has it all to keep your family entertained for entire day . Sometimes it gets so busy that all the fun is gone - so it's better to go on weekdays (Tuesdays, Wednesdays) , or Sunday is better weekend day than Friday or Saturday. Or, buy seasonal tickets and enjoy a couple of hours at a time (we did that for two years using coupons they send you in early spring - was worth the money). Also, bring your own food - not only because of the prices, but because of the quality... I know because I worked there for one summer...

PROS: fun
CONS: expensive - and they charge you for parking too!

Why are the reviews are knocking Valleyfair because price? It's probably the cheapest park of its size anywhere. I just returned from Orlando. Admission at Adventure Island and Busch Gardens is $50-$60. Food at Valleyfair is expensive, but so are other parks. I'm 22, from MN, and go to Valleyfair every year. I will take my future children there because of great rides for kids and adults. Valleyfair boasts a 200 ft coaster and the 275 ft power tower. There are other coasters including the intense Steel Venom, water rides, and small rides as well. An awesome waterpark is included in admission that rivals the best. Lines usually are NOT that long at Valleyfair compared to other famous parks. No matter what your age or who you're with, you're gauranteed excellent times at an AFFORDABLE price. Families of four get a discount at the gate.

Valleyfair offers fun for parents and children. For the kids they have a place where they can shoot foam balls. They also have smaller versions of the big rides. Admission price is reasonable and you can usually find coupons for discounts. The park even has an I Max theater and water slides. Food prices are a little high but that is usual for an amusement park.

Many rollercoasters (Wild Thing, Steel Venom), many fun rides (Power Tower, Thunder Canyon). Great shows! An Imax, which has sometimes good or sometimes not good flicks playing, but AC is nice. It can seem expensive, but use coupons, it makes it ideal. Or go after 5pm, it drops to 17 bucks. There's a review that said maybe fun for the person's 15 year old kids but not for 20 year olds. My sister (21), her Boyfriend (20), our Best friend Megan (22), Me (18) and my friend Chis (18) have a blast there everytime. Bring a picnic lunch to eat. If you have kids, they'll have enough to do. It really is a fun place for the whole family. It may seem a little overpriced, but what isn't these days? Deal with it. Grab some coupons and go. The lines are very short for over 1 million people a year.

This park, while not on a par with the Magic Kingdom (of course) is still great fun. My kids loved it, and the "high" price is misleading. I stopped into my local AAA office (no need to be a member) and got coupons for $10 off each admission, which makes it a resonable $21.95. Hardly anyone pays pays full-price, as coupons are everywhere. The coasters are great, and the water park (included) is a big plus on hot days.

Valleyfair is outrageously expensive! I remember when admittance for adults was in the mid-twenties and now it is $34! I would recommend not going unless you plan on going early and spending the whole day there. Food is expensive as well, so you may want to pack a cooler. If you ignore the high prices and long lines to get on some of the rides, Valleyfair is an exceptional place to spend a summer day! This theme park has dozens of fun rides ranging from roller coasters to childrens rides, and much more. There are also attractions including the Whitewater Country Waterpark and Challenge Park, which features the thrill seeking RipCord, Go-Karts, Bumper Boats, and Adventure Golf. Whether you are a tourist or a local, Valleyfair is so much fun! Everyone should experience it at least once!

Overall pretty fun. It's expensive, but coupons offering big savings are very easy to find (once we were given them at the gate). Food/drink is very expensive as well so bring your own snacks. The rides themselves are fun, though lines can be very long (waits of 20-30 minutes for rides that last about a 90 seconds). But if you know where to look, wait time can be reduced dramatically.

I have been going to Valleyfair at least twice a year for the last 5 years. Although the price is high, it is worth it. Steel Venom is the best ride, but watch out the last time you go up (especially the guys). I would recomend buying your tickets ahead of time, and arriving early. Also, bring a lunce in a cooler and eat in the Picnic Cove. It's a lot less expensive. If you are a thril seeker, go on the Rip-Cord. Get two of your friends to join you because it's more fun. An d buy the video. It'll be funny to look back and see how scared you were.

I remember going to Valleyfair almost every single year, starting when I was 4. When I was a young teen I remember the price being about 15.95 and thought that was a perfect price. It seems that the price keeps going up every year! The last time I was at VF was 2 summers ago when PowerTower went up(wait, maybe that was 3 years ago?) But the food is also expensive and paying for parking sucks too. You also have to pay for everything do at Challenge Park. And that is also expensive. But atleast you don't have to pay for the Waterpark anymore. That is super fun!! Bearenstein Bear Park is creative and fun for kids. VF's shows are ok, not the best. But is a very fun park and I have lots of good memories from it, it's just too bad it's so expensive now.

There are better ways to introduce someone to MN than take them to Valley Fair. Go for a bike ride, drive down 61. Amusement parks are fine, but you can visit one anywhere ( and VF isn't that great compared to so many others!).

I was surprised at how much fun our family had at Valley Fair. I considered Valley Fair, from my teen years, as mainly an ultimate teen experience. But my daughters age 7 and 4 had a blast. Some tips for families: 1)Arrive early. Crowds do not get heavy until 1:00PM. 2)Start with milder rides. The Carousel and the Scrambler are ideal. 3)Take a break to you car for your lunch brought in a cooler (to save money). Return to mild rides like the Train Ride and Floom. 4)Pre-schoolers love the overlooked but excellent half-pint park, with Mild Thing, Frog Hopper, etc. 5)This is a good time to split up by age so the other parent can bring an older child to the centerpiece - Wild Thing (one of the 10 best coasters in the world). The picture keychain may be memorable.

Pros: The Wild Thing, kiddy ride area, for teens or families

Cons: A little expensive, look for coupons

.

WOW! $31.95/day for an adult?! It may be an unfair comparison, but Walt Disney World in Orlando is currently $48/day. Valleyfair is nowhere near 3/4 of Disney World's value. The attractions are admittedly quite fun. The Wild Thing is one great roller coaster, as is Excalibur. The latter ride is 2min-13sec long (according to Valleyfair's website) but it feels like it lasts less than 30 seconds after the long, slow hill climb. Be prepared for upwards of a 30 minute wait for most coasters on most days. Weekends are usually longer. (I'll never understand why they'll only run one of the rollercoasters when there's a 20 minute wait in the lines. Very aggrivating. And way too often!) One more gripe: even with the high door price, they make you PAY for PARKING! Ultimately, I enjoy my visits to Valleyfair, but it's getting harder and harder to stomach the sticker shock.
