My wife and I were out on Grand looking for a new place to eat and we remembered this place looked nice from the street. We were sadly disappointed. The table we sat at was sticky with food bits on many places. The ""vaunted"" spring rolls were unfresh and unsavory. Of the two dishes we ordered the pad thai was ok and the seafood pasta was tasty and ample (could have shared this dish). Just wish the place was cleaner!

This is not Thai at its best...Yuck! Overcooked rice tasted like someone tried to make fried rice for the first time, turned out being an epic fail!!! Spring rolls were not fresh! Just don't eat there, there are so many good Asian and Thai restaurants in St. Paul. Choose another, trust me it won't be worst than this place! There is no reason any Asian restaurant should serve overcooked rice. 20 dollars for Thai rice and spring rolls I had to just throw away. Whoever gives that place 5 stars, I encourage you to visit another Thai joint you'll be enlightened.

I am a teacher in St. Paul and decided to take my son out for a nice meal. After taking a few bites of his soup, he pulled something horrific out of his mouth. When I told the waiter, he apologized and said we would not have to pay for that soup. When he came back, he told me the manager said it was a normal muscle, which both the waiter, my son and myself knew that it wasn't. The muscle had abnormal growths attached to it. After talking with the manager, she said that she can't check to see if all the muscles are good and just has to trust that they are. I asked for a refund and she refused. She was extremely rude.

I love Pad Thai on Grand!! Highly recommend to everyone! Try the deep fried egg rolls - I could eat them everyday - you have not had a real egg roll until you have had the Pad Thai egg rolls - wish I had the recipe.... I LOVE PAD THAI!! Can't wait to make a trip to the Cities!

I wasn't sure what to expect but this place surprised me by far.. The decor is beautiful and very comfortable yet classy and elegant. Many options on the menu and prices were reasonable. I had the Chicken Pad Thai noodles, and the Green Curry. I have to admit that for the restaurant being called Pad Thai I was expecting more from the noodles but it was not to my liking... The noodles were dry and stuck to each other in one clump.. However, the curry was amazing!! I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it.. \r
Aside from the Pad Thai noodles, I will be coming back for more of that curry. Service was great also!

We liked this place a lot - both for eating there and ordering in. About 8 months ago when we were eating there, I found a big long black hair in my red curry. It was pretty disheartening. I told the waiter, who briefly apologized and brought out a new dish. Although I was a bit put-off that there wasn't a real heartfelt apology or really much concern shown, we finished our delicious dinner and left. I've had problems ordering curry since. Anyway, we've eaten there a number of times since then. A few days ago, we ordered some chicken pad thai to go. It was delicious... until we found TWO separate hairs in it! I couldn't believe it. Disgusting. The first time I passed it off as an isolated incident. This time I just can't do it. We will not be eating their food ever again and for the sake of sanitation, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Restaurant reviews are always interesting. Sixteen of the reveiwers here gave this place 5 stars, while 7 gave it 1 star. The truth, I think is somewhere in the middle. I've been here several times and the food and services are almost always good. There are exceptions, of course, mostly depending on what kind of Thai food you're expecting. The Twin Cities have several good Thai restaurants, and I think Pad Thai is one of the better ones.

Went here back in November for lunch. The place was about half full. Ordered the pad thai w/chicken and it was really good, good portions...had enough for leftovers. But wow our service was absolutely horrible and is the only reason I give the place a 3/5. Lunch took 1.5 hours and half our table got their food 10-15 minutes after the other half. \r

The decor is worn out and they could use a good steam cleaning -

but the midday buffet, while small in choice is WONDERFUL FOOD. they have a cold salad that is addictive, enough veggie and chicken dishes to serve us red meat avoiders, and occasionally a weird wonderful Thai feature, like pea sized eggplants in a fiery curry -

affordable, sometimes slow but always humble service that will fix problems - don't try to pay with a check, and remember how much work went into the carrot flowers when you tip.

Everyone who works at this restaurant is fun, friendly, and courteous. I eat there regularly with friends and coworkers, weekdays and weekends and have never had a bad experience. The food is great and the variety is amazing. The yellow curry is my favorite, but we've never had anything we didn't like. Try it - you'll like it.

The food is as good as Thai food gets in the Twin Cities, but the noise level on a busy night makes it very difficult to hear conversation.

On a busy Friday night we only had to wait 15 minutes, lower estimate of what was told us. And even though our waitress had many tables, she was very watchful and came over as soon as we tried to catch her attention. The food came without much of a wait and it was very good. The thai cream ice tea is delicious, definitely recommend. My coconut peanut sauce was delicious. The best tofu I've had in a while. My boyfriends red curry was great. Though medium spicy is plenty spicy for most anyone; we tend to order the spiciest dishes at restaurants and medium spicy was quite good. Overall I'd definitely recommend it. Only negatives were limited parking and a loud packed place.

this place has through up ceilings, they make you want to through up because they look like through up. You can't help but notice, it's like an accident. Could easily be covered and would immediately make the atmosphere 100% better! It's that foam insulation randomly sprayed all over the open view ceiling & piping/vents with a bright yellow paint over the top of that. It's really a bummer considering the food is decent, especially the green curry which was delicious.

What a horrible experience. The waiter was extremely rude. When asked to explain what a dish was, his reply was, ""I'm not the chef, read the description."" When asked to bring a new glass of water because the old one was dirty, he argued for five minutes. When asked if the item on the menu was vegetarian, he said he didn't know and wouldn't find out. He was nowhere to be found when needed. He groaned when we asked for a few more minutes to place our orders. He charges us for sauces we did not even ask for. When we complained to the manager, no one did anything about it. \r
Never coming here again.

Great restaurant. Relaxing atmosphere, great service. They don't rush you out the door and try to turn tables quickly. The food has great flavor and the servings are large. The egg rolls are a must, they're fresh and I've never had better.

Some of the best tasting thai I've ever had. The atmosphere and service are solid but nothing spectacular but I really enjoyed the flavor of the foods. I ate there at lunchtime and thought the prices $6-$8 were very reasonable for the food quality.\r

Ok-- so here's the deal...I've eaten here a dozen times or so because my co-workers are so enamored of it and they have a decent vegetarian selection. Most of the food is fair to pretty good, I will give them that.\r
\r
The problem is that the service is really mediocre to poor and the last time I was there, I had the most disgusting dining experience EVER. Once our meal was finished, we waited and waited for the check (they're terrible about checking back on you here). We had a lot of dirty dishes including the soup which my friend and i hadn't touched because of the chicken stock. The waiter proceeded to put his left hand behind his back and started stacking the dishes together in slow motion, which was awkward because I was sitting right by him as he was doing this and we were trying to hold a conversation. \r
\r
Then, he started pouring all the soup and other leftover dishes into one big bowl on the table. As you can imagine this was SO VILE! As this gelatinous mixture was right in front of me, I had to fight the urge not to reguritate my noodle salad. Thank goodness I wasn't hung over or I would have thrown up for sure. I actually audibly groaned and rolled my eyes, but he didn't have a clue and took about 6-7 minutes to clear our table, still using one hand. I thought maybe he was injured, but, no, he had a clean towel in the other and apparently didn't want to set it down. \r
\r
I hope to never eat here again.

We were excited to try this Thai restaurant but ended up disappointed. The waiter didn't ask us if we wanted drinks and our appetizer dishes were never cleared from the table when we got our food. The main course came so quickly like they had it sitting around back there! The pork in the laab tasted like a barn--I didn't even eat it (it looked good though). We were put in the side room and our waiter was no-where to be found after we got our food (we had to fill up our water glasses ourselves!) Would recommend Grad Thai on Grand Ave much more highly than this place!

This is the best Thai food I've ever had...although I haven't been to many Thai restaurants. The spring rolls are great, and so is the Pad Thai and peanut coconut chicken! The service definitely isn't the best I've ever had. I've always had to flag down a server when I needed anything. Iwouldn't recommend the Reisling wine...pretty cheap tasting.

My parents took me here after helping me move into my house in August. We were driving down Grand and randomly spotted this place after stopping at Ace Hardware, and we all happened to be craving Asian food. How fortunate that it happened to be Pad thai!\r
I got a salad - I forgot which kind - and we all split an asparagus dish and pad thai noodles. It was all TO DIE FOR. My mom, who'd said she only wanted a few of the noodles and then she'd save the rest, hardly shared it with us and practically inhaled it. They're making me go there with them when they visit in December. :)\r
Oh, and my mom was convinced that the guy sitting behind us was famous...

This used to be my favorite thai restaurant but after hearing about an unfortunate incident my friends had, I will never go back. They recently went to dinner here and after about 3 bites into their food, a small creature crawled down the wall next to their table. They immediately stopped eating and when their server came over to ask if the food was okay, they pointed out the problem. The server didn't seem to care and was only satisfied that the food wasn't the problem. They did not get any discount on their meal that they didn't even eat and were not offered an apology by any member of wait staff. I am really disappointed because theis was my favorite thai restaurant.

Please make yourself a happier person. Go to Pad Thai. Order the catfish and the tastiest Thai iced tea ever mixed. On subsequent visits you can branch out to their large selection of noodle-goodness, but for now, sip the tea, eat the fried saucy fish and enjoy having taste buds. Leave a large tip. Maybe it will help them afford a solution to the rat colony on their back deck. But that doesn't bother you. You ate inside, getting at the tastes the other hungry mammals are denied. 4.5 stars

My husband and I have eaten in many of the Thai restaurants around town, and this experience was disappointing. The ambiance there is nice and the staff was friendly, but the night of our visit, the dining area was uncomfortably chilly, and food was, overall, below average. While the spring rolls were quite good, the chicken satay was served with a bland peanut butter sauce. I always order a curry dish, and the Massaman curry was soupy, flat, and one-dimensional, and the potatoes were undercookedIve made better at home! The noodle dish my husband ordered was also lacking in character, and the special homemade tomato sauce tasted like ketsup. We had decided to try this place because our favorite Thai restaurant (Ruam Mit) was closed. We won't go back to Pad Thai.

Just ate here for the first time and I hated it. The soup was basically hot water with celery in it. Spicy Pad Thai tasted like dog food. ""Cream Puffs"" were underdone, chewy and cold. All food came (appetizers and dishes) about 2 minutes after we ordered. Food is not seasoned at all. I ordered a diet pepsi and never got it. We sat down at 7:10 and were totally done at 7:25. We were basically rushed the whole time.

My sister recommened this place to me. Our whole family now goes there every year for mother's day because my mom just loves the place. The only thing bad I can say about the place is that it takes me so long to choose because of the huge menu, but who can complain about choices. The food here is very authentic and the chefs are very accomodating so all you have to do is ask if you want something a particular way. Just a warning when it comes to there spice chart, it is not like other spice rankings, three peppers will leave you panting for water. I definitely recommend this if you like great thai food and are looking for a nice meal.

Certainly plenty of servers, but obviously need improvement in the organization department. I saw six waitstaff on hand for a fairly normal crowd. It took too long to get our order taken, too long for food to come (and appetizers and entree all came at the same time), and too long for our beverages to arrive (arrived AFTER food).

Pad Thai Grand Cafe is not the cheapest place to eat and while the food is very good, I expect better service for the price.

Pros: Good food

I went to this restaraunt on a date over a year ago. I never had tried Thai food before and now I am hooked on the Pad Thai with Shrimp and the spring rolls!! The one problem I did have was when I had called in a order and when I got home with my food-expecting the dishes I ordered, it was someone else's order! I then called them and all they said was sorry, not even a voucher for next time! I was greatly disappointed with that, I do recommend this place for dinner but next time I will check my order before I leave.

Everytime I come here I always get the best waiters. They're very polite and check up on me all the time. The food here is great too, one of the best thai food.

I've been impressed with the food everytime I visit. Don't expect much for ambience though.

I've been there several times, and so far I haven't liked anything except the pad thai--which ranged from superb to dubious. A couple of times it was the best pad thai I've had. But tonight I got the shrimp pad thai and was shocked to find that the shrimp were stone cold. Not room temperature: chilled. The noodles were piping hot, but the first shrimp I bit into had the chill and the cottony texture of a barely thawed shrimp. It was clear they're throwing precooked shrimp into the noodles at the last minute.

Cream cheese wontons were chewy, not crisp. Curry wasn't what I expected (not sweet enough, and the duck was dry). The service is usually attentive--sometimes overly so (on one visit, at least four different waiters repeatedly asked me how my food was). I really wanted to like this place, but I don't.

Great Food for a Great small restaurant. Personal atmosphere. Great Service at Pad Thai. One of the best places to go on Grand Ave. in St. Paul.

I heard from one of my friends that Pad Thai was a great restaurant. Well she was right. The food was unbelievable and the service was class A. This will be the only Thai Restaurant I will be going to from now on.

Pros: service, taste, menu

Cons: parking, too busy

I went to Pad Thai for the first time and had the most wonderful time. This was the fastest service I ever had and the food was great. I didn't like how the tables were so close to each other.

I hadn't been to the Pad Thai Grand Cafe in a while but I was in the neighborhood last night with a friend. The egg rolls were just right-- crispy and flavorful without being greasy, but the green curry? Holy man! Instead of using coconut milk, they used heavy cream. It tasted and looked like fettucini alfredo sauce with curry paste added. It was disgusting. The next time I want Thai in St. Paul, I'll go to Taste of Thailand, where they can make a mean curry.

I was really craving for Pahd Thai after I a vacation this summer in Thailand. Delighted to hear of a place called Pahd Thai, and expecting the yummy noodles dish, I ordered it as soon as I sat down.
The dish had arrived, and I said I did not order this noodles dish, I ordered Pahd Thai. The waitress assured me that was what I ordered. I did not look and taste I like Pahd Thai. I would never go back.

The name sound catchy. I decided to give it a try.
However, what I found was another version of Pahd Lao or what ever. There is no real Thai food
here. I was so disappointed.

If you like Pad Thai..do not eat here! The food was bland and dry. It had none of the rich flavors which you find in typical pad thai. The service was slow and it was too loud (and there was hardly anyone there when we went.) I was really craving pad Thai and I read the other reviews I drove 15 miles to try this place. I will never go back.
