I was extremely excited to visit this place and try the juicy lucy, especially after I saw it on Man Vs. Food. We sat at the bar since it was too busy to find a table. The service was a complete joke. Took a while to get our order placed and waited for 50 minutes to get our food. The burger was good, but the fries were cold. The wait staff wasn't kind and seemed annoyed to be working. Won't go back again.

This place is great! Great service but the place does fill up fast thanks to the Man V. Food visit two years ago. Their JL is heaven! Plus you have different cheese's to choose from. Plus they have a great menu of other items as well.

Hope you like ur tap beer cold because it is! I will be back to this place for sure!

Everything I've eaten here has been very good. Not the easiest place to get to as it is more or less in a residential area. People often drice by on the freeway and never figure out how to get to the place. Has a very loyal customer base. Service can slow down when they are busy

The 5-8 Club is a great place for a Juicy Lucy! A Juicy Lucy is two hamburger pattys joined together with melted cheese inside! And they are fabulous at the 5-8 Club! It is a casual resturant where you feel comfortable showing up in jeans and your favorite t-shirt. Good service, friendly waitstaff, and reasonably priced food. Great for a low key night out with friends for a burger and a beer. Also a suitable place to bring your kids for dinner.

This place was featured on the Travel Channel as the "home of the Juicy Lucy" burger. Although I didn't have that burger, it's a down-home joint with fun food. We ate outside on a warm night and except for the noise of the planes taking off from the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, we had a good time. The server, however, seemed forget that we were even there.

Great small bar atmosphere and the absolute best Juicy Lucy's in the Twin Cities. This is the kind of place you walk in and feel like your in a low-rent version of Cheers - everyone knows each other and people come back time after time for the camaraderie and great bar food. I give it 5 stars just on the burgers alone!!!

I have been wanting to go here forever and never did, till last Saturday. Was there when it opened, which I'm glad I was because this place gets full quick. I had just a basic cheeseburger and OMG - it was amazing! I can't wait to go back and try the garlic or pizza burger - YUMMY! And our server Katie was amazing and one of the best server's I've ever had, or at least in a long time :) I would recommend this to anyone. I can't wait to go back!

Good burger, really good onion rings (i dip in ranch). The juicy lucy is not nearly as good as the Nook, in St. Paul, but it's good, none-the-less!! I know there is also on in Maplehood and Champlain also.

My boyfriend and I decided to try the two places i town know for JUICY LUCY's and I was truly disappointed in the 5-8 Club's. It might be great to some customers. But what I was disappointed with was the burger was soooo dry!! BUt I loved that yo can choose different cheeses in the Juicy Lucy. Thats a great thing!!!! gotta love pepperjack!!! I love the fact that our bill was not even $20!!!! It was great!!! I liked it for its variety but the burger was kind of dry!!! A juuicy lucy dry???

Went to the 5-8 yesterday, they had one of the best burgers I've ever had. Service was great as was the patio. On the back of the menu there's a story about the history of the restaurant/bar which was very cool. The prices are excellent and it is also kid friendly. I will be frequenting this fine establishment much more in the future. Yum Yum!!!

I love going to the 5 8. We have gone there sense we were kids:) I SO wish that they would do something about the grumpy wait staff that has worked there to long. We did however go in a month ago and saw a couple new FRIENDLY faces:) You would not want to cast new peeps away with rude staff. I am glad to see the change:)

They have very good Juicy Lucy's which are second only to Matt's Bar. The buffalo popcorn chicken with bleu cheese is a great appetizer to start with and the fries are very good as well. This is a great dive bar with a very interesting history in bootlegging. I've had great service every time I've been there. I've had to wait a few times to be seated during supper but not too long.

Great food at great prices!!! Try the Walleye Fingers they are great! My husband and I have always had good service when we went. It is always crowded because the food is just that good!

Highly recommended especially if your wife is prego and craving a Juicy lucy!! Not too many places a couple can go and eat for $25.. great burgers and apps.

I love the 5-8. My family loves the 5-8, and all of my friends love the 5-8. Classic american food that tastes so good. After your first time, you will crave the 5-8. All of the apps are wonderful. The juicy lucy is better than Matt's because you have a choice of about 4 different cheese. It can definately get busy, so you may have to wait, but it does help in the summer when the patio is open. Please don't be that guy who walks past the line of people to look for a table. If you see a line, make your way to the end. Don't worry it won't take to long, and will be worth the wait.

Our Trip to the 5-8 club (cedar at hwy 62) was a great experience! It reminded me of my small farm town days- Great home cooking type of food with very friendly and good service. The juicy-lucy burger with fried onion was super! so were are sides-
great atmosphere, even the other patrons were friendly. The bathrooms were about as clean as I have ever seen. We are sure we will be going back again and again!

I really enjoy the 5-8 Club but I think they have a reputation built on the wrong thing. They automatically gain critcism from me for fryin, not grilling their burgers. They are still good though. I think they have other sandwiches whaich are far better. The Philly is excellent and especially if you get the Au Juis. I wish they would offer a whole wheat bun for their burgers and other hot sandwiches. The fries are to die for and it seems like there are never enough in the basket. Only because they go down so fast. The staff is nice and many of the people have been there for years.

What a Place! I'm going on my 30th year of eating here (we used to stop off after a trip to the old Metropolitan Stadium). Great Food, esp. the Jucy Lucy, and the service has always been one on the best!

No place can beat 58 on value, hands down. Home cookin at astonishingly reasonable prices. Rustic wood finishes and 20th century pop culture memorabilia abound. The place is small - I'll call it cozy. Why is there always a wait? Well, the food is just THAT good. Sure, there's a few nay sayers who would prefer their food in 5 minutes - but there's plenty of places that specialize in that. Come with an open mind and some extra time - and let 5-8 show you why they keep 'um coming back... they're simply the best cheap eats in town!

Maybe I've been going to the 5-8 on good days, because I've never had slow or bad service. Food is stellar, to say the least. The burgers are unforgettable, portions are generous, and I love the family-friendly, laid back atmosphere. This place has a history that's fascinating. I go to the 5-8 every chance I get!

1. Jucy Lucy lives up to her name
2. busy busy... not the place if you're in a hurry
3. lovely patio which doubles available seating
4. video games for the kids, pull tabs for the adults
5. great location... near freeway and airport
6. might not be doorside, but there's always parking
7. nice clean restrooms
8. be sure and try the deep fried mushrooms

and most importantly... this place is an excellent value. You can get a home cooked burger basket for a little more than McDonalds would cost.

If that wasn't enough, they do send out coupons in the local mailers. Good coupons too... like buy one burger get one free and such.

Compairing this place against fast food is appropriate since their signature dish is a cheese filled burger. If you get a typical meal here of a burger, fries and drink it really isn't more than $1 or so more than Burger King. But it is oh-so-much better. However, you do have other costs involved.

I have never gotten out of this place in less than 2 hours. It seems they are chronically short on help and overwhelmed. This does not distract from the food. Just be forewarned to have adequate time to eat.

Whether it's a Friday after a softball game or a Satruday afternoon after shopping at the MegaMall (otherwise known as the Mother Ship), this place with 3.2 beer and politely waiting your turn is a wonderful throwback to times less complicated than the ones we find ourselves in. Bravisimo.

Whenever I am in Minneapolis, I make sure to stop at the 5.8. Although the decor has changed over the years (You should have seen the late 70's!)...the Jucy Lucy (yes, it's spelled JUCY) is still tops. Long live the 5.8!

My fiance' grew up in the neighborhood and remembered his dad taking him to the 5-8. He wanted to see if it was as good as back then, and introduced me and my 3 year old son to the place. We were all VERY impressed. WONDERFUL food, service, atmosphere, and value. Will definitely be back :)

I really liked the 5-8 Club, especially the Juicy Lucy. They give a warning about how hot the molten cheese is inside the burger and I think it is rightly so. I thoroughly enjoyed my stop here and would recommend it to anyone.

I have yet to find a more perfect hambuger joint. The burgers are the perfect size--not to big, not too small--and the portion of french fries given complements nicely. It's the only restaurant that I can finish my entire meal in! Service may be a little slow sometimes, but as long as you're in good company, it doesn't really matter. People shouldn't eat out if they are in a hurry anyway, right?

It doesn't come close to Matt's Juicy Lucy. Matt's Juicy Lucy is plump, and full of molten hot cheese. And is served with a direct warning from the staff about your first bite. The 5-8 Club did not have as nearly as much cheese inside, and the cheese that was in there was lukewarm at best, along with the rest of the burger. The fries at Matt's are also better. If you want a Juicy Lucy....GO TO MATT'S!!!!

The 5-8 offers lots of great comfort food. When I say "lots" I'm not only referring to the menu choices, but to the portion sizes. Every entree is big enough to share, but the food is so good you probably won't want to! Prices are very reasonable and believe it or not they even sell a pretty decent glass of wine for around two bucks. The atmosphere is fun and I love reading the history that's listed on the back of each menu. The only drawback is the slow and inattentive service. Make sure you order everything you want right off the bat because once you've gotten your food you most likely won't see your server again.

I'm a regular patron of the 5-8 and have also tried the Juicy Lucy at Matt's, and I have to say I am sure that the burger at the 5-8 is tops. Any Juicy Lucy is good, but the 5-8's is bigger, has more cheese, and has terrific onions, especially if fried. The atmosphere at the 5-8 is also really great -- always nice people with good conversation, and since they remodeled the inside, it's also a really neat place to eat -- especially given the unique history of the establishment. The service is also unbeatable. The 5-8 is a hidden treasure for restaurants.
