I graduated within the past 5 years and it is really amazing how much they continue to update, build, and renovate. The campus is ever-changing. The tuition price tag is definitely expensive, but for the smaller class sizes, intimate atmosphere, and high class education, it was worth it to me. The students are very bright which allows for some good competition. This is especially nice if you've been one of those students left bored and unchallenged in high school. There are plenty of organizations to be involved in whether is sports, music, volunteer, or general interest. Most of the students live on campus (it's basically required) which makes for a tight-knit community. And yes, it is a dry campus, but there are a couple great bars in town that you can go to and there's a weekend bus (the drunk bus, the love bus, whatever you like to call it) that will take you safely home. Missed the bus? A cab ride is just a few bucks.

I graduated from St. Olaf in 1994 with a B.A. in biology and women's studies. I enjoyed my time on the beautiful campus, but be aware that it is difficult to get off the campus because having cars is pretty restricted. St. Olaf is well known for its music department; you might have seen the Christmas Festival on PBS in December, featuring the St. Olaf Choir. The St. Olaf campus is a dry campus - no alcohol is permitted - although ofcourse it is still consumed on campus. The advantage is that most of the campus is quiet enough to study; the disadvantage seems to me to be that students are taught to hide it even when they want to drink responsibly.

I loved taking English classes from Professors Carol Holly and Mary Titus; writer Jim Heyenen offers a tremendous creative writing course. Biology students should make sure to take a course from Professor Ted Johnson. His Immunology class was among my favorites.

PROS: some great professors, music department, beautiful campus
CONS: dry campus (could be a pro for you), a bit isolated
