Never again! Decided to revisit an old favorite in our old neighborhood. We were treated very poorly. It's too bad because we used to love Broders. There are too many awesome restaurants in Minneapolis to get treated like that ever again.

Service was excellent! They were very accomodating to our large party. I left them in a bad spot leaving a large table open for longer then they would probably like and they were very understanding and worked with me.

I had the linguini with Lobster and it was excellent! Flavors were great. Also tried the roasted garlic appetizer and it was very good as well. Love the cracker things in the bread baskets too!

Pros: cool space, great homemade food

Cons: doesn't accommodate parties larger then 10... we squeezed 11

The wait can be long--but with their revamped outside patio, it's much more enjoyable now. The food is delicious and the service is always great. They also have good week night deals for two people that make it very cheap for such amazing food.

Broders' is among my very favorite restaurants in the twin cities. Their prices are reasonable and their food just fabulous. I take out-of-town vistors here whenever possible and have yet to have one complain! Nice atmosphere, great food, friendly service. There is often a wait, call ahead and get on the list when you can!

Broder's delivers the perfect recipe for relaxation and flavor, but should consider the customer's experience a little bit more.

The ever circulating menu - though still wonderful - is recirculating upon itself a lot and it seems needs some new inspiration from the outside. That said (and in an impossible catch-22) don't' change a thing. Broder's is the perfect summer evening retreat. For love, or for loss.

Cons: Noise and Light Levels

Broders is one of my favorite restaurants. It is one of the only restaurants that I will try something different everytime because I know everything on the menu is good. Usually I stick to my favorites, but at Broders I like to switch it up.

The food was not as described on the menu. I waited almost an extra 45 minutes beyond my reservation to be seated. I also emailed Broders about my concerns prior to this post but they failed to respond to my concerns. Don't waste your time here.....believe me there are better things you can do with three hours!

Very fun place to eat - small and cozy with a great neighborhood feel. I love its coziness, but on a busy night the wait can sometimes be frustrating. We made the mistake of not calling ahead once and waited quite a while, so now we have learned to call ahead. Still, it is worth a wait. We are close enough for take out, which we also enjoy, but the pasta (homemade) is absolutely best when you eat it there. I love the lamb/eggplant - especially on a cold night - real comfort food. Try not to fill up on the yummy bread basket because their pasta dishes are generous! The wine list is affordable and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. These kind of neighborhood spots are a great find and this is one of the best!

I thought the pizza was good at the deli then I tried the pasta across the street and wow! I never had anything so good. Broders seems to know what they are doing. There are lots of choices, enough to please everyone. I had a pasta with lamb, olives, goat cheese and rosemary that was outstanding. Others at the table had a great Bolognese, a pasta with truffle cream and cheese and one with a simple tomato sauce. All were really, really good. Don't miss this one.

Broders Pasta Bar can become an addiction, an obsession if you don't watch out. There are so many great pasta dishes to choose from on the menu that are really, truly delicious. Needless to say, I am a regular. My first experience was Number 11, a pasta with chicken and prosciutto, almonds, asparagus and fresh greens tossed with homemade noodles and some sort of creamy but light sauce... incredible. Anyway, it took awhile before I started to order other dishes on the menu - and there are a lot of them. I now love the after eight special where two can eat for under $30.00 including wine, pasta, salad and olives. The pasta dishes are simple but excellently executed just like in Italy. Service is great. Getting in can be hard but we have it figured out. Call ahead (more than one hour), go on week nights, go later rather than earlier and then it is a breeze. Everyone there is warm and friendly and the bar is the best communal table in town.

Broders is small, cramped and hard to get into but no one puts it out like they do. This place really makes pasta the is outstanding. You go there for the best plate of pasta in town. You have to try it to get it. I recommend calling ahead to get you name on the list.

I went on a Friday night and had to wait for over an hour--but it was SO worth it. We drank a bottle of wine while waiting, and the staff and atmosphere were great. Best pasta I've found in Minneapolis (and quite frankly ever, outside of Italy).

This place is awful. I can't believe how popular it is!
I got take-out last night. I asked the host/server what she recommended if we were looking for one flavorful, garlicky, tomato pasta dish and one cheesy pasta dish. She recommended the penne alla puttanesca with the addition of spicy sausage and extra sauce(#20) and the tagliarini di Locanda del Lupo (#18) respectively. Well, flavorful and cheesy they were not. The puttanesca was a lot of noodles and almost no sauce. The "sauce" amounted to 4 or 5 pieces of plum tomato and a lot of chopped olives. The sausage was not mixed into the sauce, but rather a sausage link (not very spicy) cut into chunks, I think there were 6 or 8 chunks of sausage. It was very dry and flavorless--no garlic, no olive oil, no seasoning.

The tagliarini was even worse. She described it as a creamy dish with cheese on top. When I took it out of the container (in a starchy lump w a fork) it was so dry there was no remnant of "creamy sauce" left in the container. There were a few pieces of cheese that had been grated on top. The prusciutto that was listed on the menu seemed absent, could not detect the truffle pesto either. It couldn't have had more than a 1/4 cup of sauce for a giant portion of noodles. Again, dry and flavorless. The ceasar salad was also dry and flavorless. The chocolate torte was good, but I assume they don't make it in house. Definately not worth the $40! They must make a ton of money selling noodles. I can't believe the way people line up out the door for this joint. Next time I'm going back to Al Vento on 34th Ave and 50th St. Their food is always explosively flavorful, rich and complex--without the hour wait AND you can make a reservation. Broders was a huge dissappointment. I didn't even call to complain, for fear they'd offer me a gift certificate and I'd feel compelled to return. Yuck.

Pros: if you want a giant dish of noodles, and nothing else, this is your place.

Cons: Flavorless, overpriced food.

Italian food like they actually make in Italy . This place is not for those who only like American-style Italian. Food is fresh as can be. Salads are scrumptious and bread is crusty and delicious. The location is quaint, but this also means everything is a tight squeeze - parking, waiting, even seating. But the food is consistently good. If you have a party of 3 or more during a weekend - forget it. This is true unless you have the required allotted number of persons for reservations, which I believe is 6. The wait staff is good, but the hosting staff will make your life a living h-ll if you cross them. Why do I even go here? Because the food is good. If they ever falter on that, well they really don't have anything to fall back on.

The dishes here stand out because of the interesting combinations - like saffron ravioli - and excellence. The service is standard, but by no means sub par. The food isn't too pricey.

This is one of my favorite places in the state, and I am lucky enough to live right around the corner. The pasta is always cooked to perfection, which is a simple task that is often not executed as well as it could be in many restaurants. The menu is fresh and exciting with new and exciting combinations routinly showing up. If you want classic Spag & Meatballs, you can get a great version of it here, but why not branch out as there flavor combinations are extravagant and well executed. The variety of proteins, vegetables and spices that they work with create a truly unique menu. Don't rule out the Cucina across the street either. They have great take out and Authentice meats & cheese. Try and find a better soprasata in the metro. I've never had an issue waiting for a table (usually because if there is a wait there is wine to be had). Honestly, this place is awesome, call ahead, and you'll be fine. They have a great patio in the summer, spring and fall if your table isn't ready to go. The wait is well worth it, the pasta just can't be beat.

I love any place that I can go in, sit at a bar, and watch my food being prepared not too far away! If you are lucky enough to actually get a seat in this place, request a seat at the bar, unless you have a large party.
Broders is a wonderful place to sit and have a romantic dinner. The gentlemen behind the bar was very helpful in suggesting things to order and also offered great conversation when we were looking for it. I would highly recommend ordering the roasted garlic, as it was the best prepared garlic I have ever had!

If you do have to wait for a table, grab a glass of wine and sit outside and enjoy the beautiful patio they have set up!
Overall - you will walk into this place finding every seat in the place full, every item on the menu making your mouth water, and a very helpful staff.

After a longstanding with Broders - both the restaurant and the deli - we are never returning. My family and I have been going to Broders since I can remember eating pasta. I don?t live in Minneapolis anymore, but have not missed Broders on a trip back since I left over the past 15 years. Tonight my mother and I went at 6:00 pm ? the restaurant was not full ? there were 6 4-top tables and about 10 seats at the bar available. My mother and I asked for a table, as it is such a rare special occasion to have a nice, quiet meal together. The host said he could not sit us at a table as he was saving them for any parties of 4 that might arrive. There was no one waiting in the lobby. He informed us that we would be waiting at least 30 minutes (there are very few 2 tops in the restaurant ? I have often sat at a 4 top with only 2 people) and when we said we felt like that was a long wait (as there were 6 empty tables) he said ?Try us again some other time.? It felt like it such an insult as my mother who is a local to Minneapolis goes to the restaurant at least every other week that we decided to end our relationship with Broders. We did love the food, but never have been discriminated as a party of ?2? before. It was such an unexpected way to be treated by such a neighborhood restaurant ? we can find handfuls of places with better food and will.

Broders is awesome! The fresh pasta made in house, a seasonally changing menu (but they keep the tried and true classics for the ones that are stuck on a particular dish--#11 anyone?) and a great wine list make this a true neighborhood gem.

It does get busy and it is best to call ahead, but the servers make you comfortable with a glass of wine and there is a great patio to sit and enjoy the evening, chat with your dining companions and wait for your table.

This is a frequent stop for me since it is in my neigborhood, has great food from scratch, friendly service and everyday prices. The patio in summer is so beautiful and the wine list is the most affordable in town. Altogether a great experience. Just call ahead because waits are long!

To put it simple, DO NOT GO HERE! Salad, horrible. Ravioli, awful. Dessert, ridiculous. And to top it off, the service was lacking. Our waitress was rude, and seemed to be in pain if we ever asked for something, even if it was just a glass of water. Please, dont believe any positive hype about this place. BAD!

Fun local spot with very good fresh pasta. Cozy up to the bar and enjoy conversation with your dinner date or someone next to you. Very busy and crowded at times, but calling ahead to put your name on the list helps. Check out the specials they offer at certain times of the day.

I called ahead to put my party of 5 on the list (they don't take reservations for under 6). We arrived an hour later, per their recommendation, and waited an additional hour and a half to be seated. It's a small space, I would NOT recommend it for groups. And if you go with one other person, you'll probably still be sat at the bar in the middle of the room (not romantic or cozy at all). Our server never took our drink order, she just threw water in front of all of us. The menu is tricky to understand if you don't know all the Italian linog, and when we asked, our server was very short with us and rude...no idea why?? After all, WE were the ones sitting for hours waiting to get in, being told we were next on the list. When our appetizers arrived, she set them in front of us and asked to take our order--as we watched food we were so hungry for get cold! At this point, we asked if it was possible to even ORDER beverages, since she didn't seem to care about asking us before. The food itself tasted very fresh, but it wasn't entirely flavorful. Next the server sent us the wrong desserts. We're a very easy to please group and were excited to try this place out with all the glowing reviews I read on here...I was completely disappointed, and I doubt I'll ever go back, and I would never ever recommend it.

We were visiting from Los Angeles and one of my favorite stops is always to eat at Broder's. We arrived to the smell of the scent of the "best" italian food in Minneapolis, hands down. After a short wait, which we called ahead to place our name on the list, ALWAYS DO IT. We were accomodated at a nice private table in the corner. The service was great, right away we had waters, bread and olive oil, menu's. Our server was a long time server, his suggestions and walk through of the menu was very detailed. We went with both of his recommendations, the #10 was the scallops, very good and the #14 the lamb and it was FANTASTIC. I would highly recommend this dish, if you like lamb. Everything about the dinner was a 10!!!! One thing about always eating here when I visit Minnie is that the restaurant has consistently high quality food. All aspects are always the same and the varied menu is nice to be able to try new dishes. If you like really good italian food, a neighborhood atmoshpere and you want to experience a "local" side of the city, this is the place to eat. Remember, call ahead to place your name on the list for dinner. It will help being seated. Enjoy!!!

Very impressed, the service was great and the waitress was very nice and helpfull. Will definitely be back! Price was reasonable, I had clams on pasta (don't remeber the Itilian name), its been awhile since I've had clams, but this was great!

Pros: romantic

Cons: parking

I don't need to say much here because i'm sure its already been said. Nothing can touch the extemely fresh, amazing quality of Broder's. This should be the first choice for anyone to dine in MPLS/STP. The quadrucci con pollo, asparagi ed aceto balsamico
is one of my favorite dishes of all time, but I've never been anything but utterly thrilled with what I've ordered. Go. Often.

Pros: 1 of the best ever

Cons: weekends are crazy

Simple and straightforward. Fresh and seasonal. This is pasta as you can only experience in Italy. Try the Penne with aspargus, prosciutto di Parma and smoked mozzarella. Delightful. The Berkshire pork ragu with fennel and zucchini is rich and satisfying. Laid back service and atmosphere. Feels like Home away from home.

Sometimes the simple things are best. At Broders' this is no exception. A satisfying Bogognese sauce on silky tagliatelle, penne with rosemary, cream and tomatoes, pennette with sausage and truffle cream are all wonderfully satisfying without overwhelming the taste buds. Tagliarini in the style of Soragna, with its egg yolk rich pasta, top quality parmigiano and prosciutto di Parma and a hint of truffles is sinfully rich and still simple and straightforward. This is some of the best pasta I've had outside of Italy. Call ahead to shorten the wait.

I did not make reservations and was told the wait was between 15-30 minutes. We had a party of three and people that did not have reservations and came after us were seated first. The explanation was that it was due to they had parties of 4 and that was easier to seat. Does not make sense and I will never go back. Overall wait was 80 minutes. Not worth the wait. Food was average, service once seated was above average.

When my friend an I first got there we had to wait for our table, so we sat outside on the patio to get a drink. It took a pretty long time for the waitress to come up to us, and then after she took our order, she delivered drinks to about 5 other people before finally pouring ours. All in all we had to wait almost 15-20 minutes for one drink, and it wasn't even crowded. They definitely needed more help outside. The rest of these service was OK, but not great. And I thought the pasta was good, but not great. Definitely not a 9.9 or whatever this place is currently rated right now. But I'm pretty picky with my italian food being from NYC. But this place is reasonably priced though.

The couple next to us might as well of joined us for dinner. The idea of the "pasta bar" with the food made in front of you is fun but NOT romantic. The wine in the carafe was ridiculously small and overpriced and the food was decent and not as described as what it was on the menu(at least mine). I always hate it when everything that is not in the dish is NOT listed on the menu. For example if I was alergic to something I would of never of known it was in my dish because they failed to disclose that. I think this is very important. I had the seafood cannelloni and my date had the Risotto in which she liked very much. My portion was VERY small. I guess I just expected a lot more after seeing all of these positive reviews.

Me and my girlfreind decided to eat here after a quick stop at the Cucina across the street on a Saturday early evening. I read good things about this place. It ended up to be all true. I was luck enough to get there early enough to get the last 2 seats in the house up at the pasta bar, which are nice seats. Pass on the bread. The mussels were good but the red sauce they were in tasted like bland tomato soup. I ordered the rissoto with clams. It ws the best thing I have eaten in a long time. We had the profiterole for dessert which was fantastic. Definately a great place to eat

Broder's doesn't disappoint. The food is fresh and a combination of flavors. With a menu just sufficiently broad to be called daring by MN standards paired with a small but appropriate wine list, it's hard to beat eating here. It's pricey compared to chains, so don't go if you usually order the "endless salad and breadsticks." The service is very attentive, and the desserts are great too. It can be very crowded, especially on the weekends, so recommendations are highly recommended. Parking can also be a challenge. Because of its smaller size, I don't recommend bringing small children.

A nice little restaurant, that should be top-rated. You can taste that the pasta is home-made, and it's always perfectly cooked al-dente. The bar provides a great view of the area, and they're quick to refill you bread (although you should be having the roasted garlic or a pizza instead). The other tables also offer a more intimate setting. The quadrucci dish is fittingly a staple on the changing menu, and veggies of the day are often asparagus or squash. I'm never happy eating at other Italian restaurants now that I've been to Broder's.

I love this place!! They have an excellent variety of pasta dishes, wines and desserts. My husband and I are vegetarians and there are several options available for us. We can never remember which wines we like and have been able to sample the wine before we order a bottle. I also adore the atmosphere of this restaurant. The tables may be close together, but it adds to the charm.

We had no trouble getting a table on a Thursday night, and the service was very friendly. Our waitress was very helpful and helped us decide between dishes. We all ordered different entrees and desserts, and no one had any complaints. I would highly recommend the portabello mushroom in spinach ravioli. The only downside I would mention is that the tables were crowded close together.

I have been seeking out different italian restaurants for awhile to try, and since Broder's was really close my boyfriend and I checked it out! It was a wednesday evening. We decided to take advantage of the after 8 deal and arrived to find good parking, a table ready and a very nice waitress. We both loved our pastas espeecially the fact that they were piping hot when they hit the table, both full of good flavor, the homemade-taste AND texture of my Stringozzi was awesome! The dish was flavorful and just the right amount to fill you! (Plus a salad and their nummy bread :) ) I can't wait to go back, I am excited to try some of their other dishes as well as their desserts !!

NOT the place to eat if you don't want to have a bottle of wine with your meal. Service goes from good to bad just by ordering a Coke instead of a bottle of wine.

Broders' makes the best pasta I have ever had, and I've been to Italy.

The menu consists of some appetizers, wine, and salads, and then 20-some ways of having your pasta prepared. What continually amazes me is how good their pasta tastes (just the pasta, with no sauce). It might be hard, but you should really try and save room for their Limoncello Cake.

The wait can be long, but if you call ahead you can usually cut it down to 15-20 minutes (a must on the weekends).

Always a solid place to have a decent meal. The pasta is fresh, the menu changes every so often and there is parking available! It is a wine friendly place with a reasonable $10 corkage for your own bottle and a fun little list of their own. The service could use some polish (wine is poured without waiting for someone to taste it and deem it fit) and the wine is served in highball glasses but the rustic feel of the food seems to make it all fit. Monday eve when kids eat free is the icing on the cake. I only mark them down a notch due to the unpolished service (however, it is on par for just about every restaurant in it's price point in the Twin Cities). I have never had a bad meal here and recommend it as a consistent performer.

We went on a thursday evening....food was really good. Had an excellent pasta dish. Sat around the past bar...which I would recommend if you like to watch the chef cook. We only had a couple minute wait, and would go again.

How many of us don't love a good pasta dish? Broder's aims to please . . . and I've been a satisfied customer every time. A nice menu balanced by a decent (Italian-only) wine list is enahnced by the convivial atmosphere and informative staff. Don't sit near the hallway in the winter though! Note to vegetarians: don't expect much more than the basics - true italian-style pasta dishes are rarely vegetarian freindly.

This little gem at 50th St and Penn, Minneapolis is renowned for its unique menu, chef's selections, value, and attentive service. The menu is what one comes to expect out of a New York Italian bistro, at a fraction of the cost, featuring notable antipasti and pasta entrees, gorgeous desserts and a remarkable wine list. Be sure to arrive early for best seating, the dining area is intimately small but well-planned for space. An outside terrace is available but unfortunately abuts a busy arterial for traffic.
