First of all, DO NOT arrange a party with these people! I called several weeks ago to book a house party for my daughter s birthday party. I later confirmed the reservation. They never showed up for the party. They never called to tell me that they could not do the party. They won t answer their business phone or cell phone. We ended up calling Tommy's Zoo and Stables a couple of hours after Down on the Farm was supposed to show. Fortunately they were able to come to our house at the last minute and put on a really nice show for the children. They told us that they have covered for Down on the Farm for several other no-shows. I honestly don t know how these people can stay in business with this type of unprofessional conduct. Do yourself a favor, call Tommy's or Pony Pals and avoid a nightmare situation for your child s birthday party!

Update: Received an email the next day from the owner Lea Ann. She said that their truck was in the shop and that is why they didn't show up.
Response: Learn how to use a telephone!!!!

This is a great camp, I went here for 8 years when I was younger, I always had a lot of fun. It's very casual but professional, and the animals are great. There is a sign on the front gate that says "Visits by appointment only."
I definitely recommend it.

I myself went to down on the farm for about 5 or 6 years. It was the time of my life, I loved it there and I loved the people. I loved it so much I now work there and love to see the kids smiles when they see the animals. From the camp came a passion for horses, I learned so much from the place and cried every time it was over! The camp counselors really make you feel at home and you grow a bond with the animals that will never be forgotten. The farm also does so much more! Its really an amazing place for anyone. I find Down on the farm a great deal, for as much as you get into your visit with the animals its worth the price. I would totally recommend them to my family and friends! Down on the Farm is an great and I highly recommend it. Check out the site. www.downonthefarminc.comAnd to the people who say you should pass, you most def. shouldn't!! :) There is a sign, i can guarantee it!!

I was reading the review that said that Down on the Farm was a terrible place. Simply not true!! I have brought my family to Lea Ann's camp for years. I totally understand her reaction upon finding people on her property. I can tell you that there is in FACT a sign at the end of her driveway saying :By appointment only!!
I would have to have that review steer anyone away from going to Down on the Farm. I recommend her services to all of my friends.
These people were totally in the wrong by just driving up and assuming that they could tour the barn with no one around! Again, this place is a wonderful place and children don't want to leave once they have gotten there.

The owner of Down on the Farm virtually attacked our family because we did not know that a prior reservation was necessary. We had only just driven up and offered to leave immediately. She accused us of letting all of her animals out (ridiculous--her animals were not out as far as we could tell) and of trying to run over her dog. She was holding the dog and our car was not even started yet! She shouted at us the whole time we were buckling our small children into the car. There was no sign or gate saying that we should not drive up and park at her business. This is not a fun place, and we would advise families to steer clear of it. Your experience there would be greatly affected by the owner's mood at the time.

Business Response:

Lets tell the whole truth!!! As owner of the Down on the Farm and I recall this person vividly. We were gone to a job and returned to see people wandering around in the barn as well as animals These individuals clearly took it upon themselves to trespass without any thought to the liabilty of being around livestock without supervision. Further this is also our place of private residence. To have people radomly show up without any reservation is frustrating, There is indeed is a HUGE stop sign posted at the end of the driveway stating " BY APPOINTMENT ONLY" further our website indicates by reservation only. (check it out) This women told me they decided to drive around to local farms and show their children horses. I shudder to think if we had not shown up and one of her children had gotten hurt by an animal....... and then of course it would be our fault!!!! We are not trying to be rude, unfriendly, or not open for the general public.... all we are asking is that you call and set up an appointment. This will insure that you have a safe and postive experience because we are PLANNING for you to be there!!!

Down on the farm is a nice horse and animal camp for kids. The prices are very comparable to other horse camps in the area. My only complaints would be that it can be very difficult to speak to with someone. If you leave a message, expect to wait awhile for a return call. Down on the farm also does birthday parties on the farm or they can bring a petting zoo to you. If your child loves animals, definately a party option worth checking out.
