I had a superb meal in here, the rice is really amazing with the beans and they have a wonderful staff that really focuses on making the customers feel easy.

I am sure there got to be other better places in Minneapolis for a date night. So lets be fair and talk about it. The food was not bad. It depends a lot on what you order. If you happen to order the Shrimp Tempura version of Chino Latino, you will be in heaven. It was just mind blowing. However if you happen to make the mistake of order a the nachos, you will suck yourself to death. Now I am sure there are other great dishes to order. Their sushi was good.

However my problem was with the noise. If you are taking your GF out and hate to speak to her, this is the place. Its extremely loud, trashy and even if you 2 stand close to each other, you literally need to shout. Unfortunately I like my GF a lot to talk to her. So this was definitely not the ideal place.

By the way, we aware of a tradition in Chino Latino. Not sure what it is but you will find groups of people wearing head bands, drinking shots and screaming. Wow, I thought the college days were over. All the best.

Looking to prepare your own food, sift through pretentiously titled entrees, endure bad service, choke down mediocre food and navigate an unnecessarily co-ed bathroom? Try Chino Latino. Actual quote from our waiter as he delivered our beef appetizer: "Ever eaten this before? No? Well you just take the largest, outside piece of the iceberg lettuce, place a piece of beef, some kimchi, and spread some seared red onions inside, wrap it up, tie it with some parsley sprig we have supplied here and eat it." Wait what was the third step again? I felt like I needed a pen and paper. The couple next to me was struggling to assemble their "Tapas del Sol" or some such nonsense with little success. The "Crispy Saigon Rolls" (read: egg rolls) were over sized take-out chinese egg rolls with sauce clearly poured out of a gallon bottle that you had to wrap for some reason in lettuce and wilted, browned sprouts to "enjoy". Examining some other items, could we drop the facade and just describe the food? "Snoop Dog's Smoked Salmon Rolls" is a Philly Roll, pure and simple. "Popocatepe" is french fries served with nacho fixings. "Lamma Island Salty Squid" is fried calamari.

Further, could we get some noise control? Thank god my wife and I have known each other a while and can predict each other's thoughts and feelings because I couldn't hear more than one out of every nine or ten words. Good luck those of you on a first date; don't expect a second if your'e at Chino Latino.

Let's tackle the bathrooms: Is there a reason I'm paying $110 a meal to piss in a trough? It's not 1985 and I'm not at a Twins game. So why am I spending time trying to avoid crossing streams with the drunken insurance adjuster next to me? Also, when I walk into a tiled room with 19 women drying their hands you can't blame me for assuming I'm in the women's bathroom. I shouldn't need a map and wet wipes to use your bathroom, folks.

Bottom line? Wow, you can do so much better in every part of the metro for that money. Avoid Chino Latino at all costs.

This is a great spot to go to an kick it with the girls. It's a nice spot in the heart of uptown minneapolis. The food is delish! It's a little spendy depending on what you get. One food that I don't recommend to get would be the plantanes. . . .but I did LOVE the spare ribs that they serve in the honey bbq glaze and the deep fried snickers with ice cream. At the end of the day it's a decent spot to go to!

Four of us ate here last night. The food and service were very good. This little review, however, will be devoted to the absurd and inexcusable cacophony. We've been to many loud restaurants in the TC, but this is the prizewinner in that dubious category. I watched the wait staff cope with it by bending over close to diners in an attempt to hear them. We even had one of the better, sound-wise, tables near the front, yet we spent the entire (otherwise enjoyable) meal yelling at each other. I'd like to know if some study has been done which establishes a positive correlation between decibel level and revenue, or between decible level and a "good time". Do restaurant consultants recommend this? If they do, it must be with the confidence that they won't have to eat in such places. I have no doubt this pervasive problem doesn't bother many people, although I'd certainly like to know how they communicate. This is a nationwide problem - not equal in importance to, say, American health care or Pentagon expenditures - but serious enough for anyone who likes dining at fine food establishments but also likes to converse and not be concerned about being deaf at a later age. For god's sake, this isn't a rock concert! It's just a restaurant. Surely, some soundproofing measures would reduce neither income nor the perception of enjoyment.

Cons: conversation impossible and hearing loss

I went with some friends and had a good time, unfortunately, the service was pretty poor. The food was okay, but the drinks were WAY too overpriced.

Mediocre food, indifferent service, " NYC 'Asia de Cuba' wannabe" way past its prime (if it ever had one). Save your money and your time.

This place has a cool atmosphere, good location, and the food is actually good. I like the happy hour deals and the smores dessert. The service is AWFUL and the group policy is horrid! Make sure to bring cash if you plan to pay separately as they will not split checks or run more than one card. Make sure to carefully look over your tab to see how much gratuity has been added. FYI, you do not have to pay the manually added gratuity. Seriously, Azia, nearby, is much cooler and better. Plus, a few of the desserts are to die for and the best in town. I LOVE the banana one as well as the almond joy. SO good!!

I have been going to Chino since they opened. The quality of the food has changed over the years, the blackberry mohito martini has less puree than it used to, and it caters more the the suburb crowd but it stil is Chino Latino. They need to open up locations in SF, Chicago, and NYC if you ask me.

The service can be touch and go but what I have learned is that the severs are trained to be sassy, and sometimes they get too busy to provide five star service but I have never had terrible service. They are fun and they will interact with your group. We bring groups in often on weeknights and the service tends to be a little more attentive. Make sure you try the specialty drinks, and don't be afraid to share.

Things to try:
Salt And Pepper Shrimp now known as Chino Style Shrimp Feast
Queso Fundido
Elote
Shrimp Curry
Mushi Beef
Black Laab
Smores
Volcano Cup

I've been to Chino's at least six times, but each time with a different group insisting to go there. I must admit that when I first moved to Minneapolis I was wowed by my first visit to Chino's. It seemed so trendy and vibrant, but that impression quickly disappeared after subsequent visits. The food that is served there is consistently overpriced and really not as authentic as others say it is. Service is painfully slow on weekend nights.

However, this place is good if you're looking for somewhere to people watch. It's consistently packed with early 20s to late 30 something year-olds on evenings.

This is one of the good restaurants around here. Their international menus really taste authentic or very close. Great service and ambiance, but it gets very noisy and rowdy. This place is a bit pricey, but servings are good for sharing family style.

Bottom line = Good restaurant, authentic international flavors, just a bit pricey and very noisy

The reason I am writing a review, is because I have given Chino Latino plenty of opportunities to "wow" me. I have been here four times, and shame on me, each time has been a negative experience.
The last straw was when I went here for dinner with some friends. Our server was so rude and condesending. She kept cracking these smart-a$$ comments that were really bizarre and came out of no where. She creeped all of us out. Now, our group has quite the sense of humor but this young lady was a nightmare. My friend asked our server for some food recommondations for him. He wasn't very hungry so he didn't want anything filling, and he made this very clear to her. She suggested this chicken entree with black beans. It was pricey but he ended up ordering it because of her recommondation. The "Monster Chicken" arrived and it took up half of our table. It was a whole chicken. It was huge! We all ended up helping him eat it and it was so dry and had absolutely no flavor what so ever. After our food came, we didn't see our server and literally had to track her down 30 minutes later just to refill some drinks.
I can write about other unpleasant experiences that I have had, but I think you get my point. This place is a joke and I will not be returning here, and neither will my friends. Good luck with your pink tacos and mega-chickens Chino Latinos.

Pros: None

I adore Chino Latino. It's a great place for a girls' night out, dinner with out-of-town guests, birthdays... The drinks are amazing (and potent!); I've never tried anything on the menu I didn't like (I'm a VERY picky eater); the servers are always fun and helpful. The decor is great. The bathroom set-up is... uh, interesting. The bar area is cool, but crowded. I LOVE the queso fundido and I crave the Chinatown Lo Mein. There are so many delicious options to choose from. If you haven't found something you like, there are plenty of dishes to explore.

In response to some other posts, it's called Chino Latino --- not "Chinos" or "Chino Latinos." Get it right. Also, you will need a reservation. That's just how it is. Do your homework. You can't just swoop in and grab a table, which is a lot like New York restaurants from what I can tell. Make a reservation 3-7 days in advance, and you'll definitely get the time slot you want. You can make reservations online.

I don't recommend bringing Grandma or or the kiddies to Chino Latino. There are many sexually suggestive menu items that would make for very awkward table conversation (even some of the employees' uniforms have naughty sayings on them).

Cons: Reservations required, and there is only one Chino Latino!

Every time I've been to Chino Latinos it's always jammed full of people. Surprisingly the service always seems to be efficient, informed about the menu and friendly despite the constant flow of people.

The food and drinks I've tried has always been good-- although there always seems to be an abundance of it by the time I/we're done eating.

Chino Latino has a fairly unique atmosphere that feels very trendy and chic and tends towards a slightly younger crowd.

Be sure to get a reservation if you're planning a weekend visit!

I have never been so displeased with any restaurant in my life! My friends and I drove an hour to eat at chinos and we didnt know we were suppose to make reservations so when we got there they told us the wait would be and hour to an hour and half. We decided to wait since we drove so far. The place was so crowded i could barely move and the noise level was so high i couldnt even hear myself think. So two hours went by and they still never called our name so we went to ask and the hostess rudely told us she couldnt tell us when we would get seated. so another half an hour later we were finally seated. The food was definitley not worth what we went through. Also it bothered me that every single person there thought they were so hip and trendy and way too cool to have manners.

We have been to Chino Latino twice, once when they first opened then about 18 months later. I can make allotments for new restaurants especially one as ambitious as this. Mistakes made in week one should not continue if a restaurant is worth its salt. Anyway, the best way to summarize Chino is booze first, (read profit) chic second, food and service are way, way down the list.

One of my favorite places to dine. They have one of the most unique and flavorful menus around. Specializing in South American and Chinese dishes, there is something for everyone to try.

Chino Latino is a place to be seen at; not a place for a nice dinner. The Philippine Paella is good but I haven't had any other menu item that I would die for. The sushi isn't spectacular either.

I have eaten a chino's only at the request of out of town visitors because they think its "cool" and "trendy". What makes me sad is that there are hundreds of other, more unique, better staffed, better fooded places around the twin cities. PLEASE if you are visiting Minneapolis CHOOSE SOME WHERE ELSE to eat. Everytime I've eaten here the service has been inconsistent as has been the food. It's always over booked and crowded and the drinks are nothing to write home about.
-Be cooler than the masses, go somewhere else in Minneapolis to eat than chino latino

I have heard many good things about Chino's but I was sadly disappointed when I finally went. My friend had made reservations for 10 and upon arriving, we realized we had 12. Even though we had made reservations, when we changed them by 2 people, we ended up waiting almost an hour to be seated. We asked the hostess if we could simply just squeeze the extra 2 people in at the table they had originally intended for us and they said that's what they were doing. So what I really don't understand is why that took them 50 minutes. On top of that, our waiter was very unattentive and brought all of our orders out sporadically instead of enlisting another server's help. I was the last one to get my food and 1/3 of the table was done eating by that time. He was very unattentive in refilling our drinks. The pad thai that I ordered was absolutely horrendous. I have been advising everyone who mentions the place to avoid it unless they want to eat dog food. Otherwise, the presentation was great and the smore's dessert was fantastic! What a great idea. I would go again because I have heard they have good sushi that I would like to try but unless you want a long wait and an unattentive wait staff, I would advise against it.

A sleek and chic place in Uptown, Chino Latino has a fun, cosmopolitan vibe. The menu changes daily, and you really can't go wrong with any selection. The sushi is especially creative. It's a little loud for a date, but there is a decent party scene and great people watching on weekend nights. The service is friendly. I had a great time, and the food was incredible.

It's a little loud for a date, but there is a decent party scene and great people watching on weekend nights. The service is friendly. I had a great time, and the food was incredible.

Pros: Creative food, ambience, service

Cons: Parking in uptown can be a hassle

Recently a few months ago my girlfriend had her birthday party. Keep in mind this was about 15 people in the group. When we walked in the restaurant had a fund little atmosphere, alot of life. When we were seated everyone ordered. Drinks were served promptly, but when I order an entree and someone down the table ordered the same item but in an appetizer, the server mixed up our orders. Rather than getting us a new order, she brought a plate and split the other plate at the other end and brought me the extra plate telling me that was the rest of my food. I was a little disappointed. I have to say though the sushi plate that I ordered was a little of a disappointment. The servings were a little small. But overall, it is a nice place to go if you're looking to get cocktails or an appetizer.

Wow, I was extremely disappointed with this place! We went as part of a large party and were looking forward to it, as I had heard some great things. The atmosphere was good/fun but everything else was lacking. The food was mediocre at best and the dishes were skimpy on the ingredients that cost any money (heavy on the filler and garnish, light on meat). The worst part is that they weren't bringing out enough food to go around for the entire table- we kept having to ask them for more dishes so that everyone could have some of what was on the menu for our party. We were about 30 people and the host paid $25 per person for food, so this should not have happened. The desserts were great, however. If only they brought enough for everyone to have some!

The service was friendly but failed to anticipate the needs of a large party. We were given appetizer-sized plates for the entrees and missing silverware and plates for dessert. Overall a total bummer. I feel terible that the host paid so much for such an underwhelming experience.

What I have found out with this place is you either Love it or Hate it. We have brought a few people here over the last couple of years and I would say 75% of the people we brought love it. Everyone else won't go again. We (my wife and I) Love this place and will continue to bring people there.

I don't understand why everyone loves this place. The food is terrible, the service takes forever, and the atmosphere is soo dark. I can barely see my food! Most of the customers are single, horny, annoying-loud, and drunk. I couldn't even hear my boyfriend talk, we practically yelled at at the top of our lungs!!! I've been to Chino Latino's a few times because I thought each time I went there, I just ordered something wrong but then it occurred to me: Their food is just plain gross. I don't like their entrees whatsoever, there's nothing special or tasty about it. It's just overpriced crappy food. Don't ever get their sushi. I don't think that place is very well known for their fish. However, I do like their appetizers. My favorite would have to be the bulgoki: thinly sliced beef, marinated with a tangy/spicy sauce , and wrapped with lettuce and kimchi. I also enjoy their corn with cheese and chili peppers on it. The server was extremely nice so it's not his fault that 75% of the food tasted gross. To sum it all up: Chino Latino is like an upscale bar only with crappy bar food.

The food was great, I was there with my girlfriend(now my fiance) a year ago and we ordered appetizers, and food. The bathrooms are odd (its an uptown thing) as well. We had 2 women making out and groping each other maybe 6 inches to a foot away from me while I was trying to have a conversation with my gf. They were both very good looking. I did my best to concentrate on her (my gf). I had a very good night, and didnt even get slapped! I loved the loudness, the feel of the place was great! Lots of gorgeous women too!!!

Their deserts are the best! Try the orgazmo pineapple drink! They have a cozy gathering spot in the back for drinks. The menu changes often which is nice & they have lots of variety. It looks like something out of a movie.

The food is so creative and will definatly give you a break from the bland. The trick to having fun is to go when it is not the weekend when the people attempting to be trendy come in from the burbs. Some people poo poo Chino because the crowd has taken a bad turn but go during the week and enjoy great food, great service, and you can actually hold a conversation without yelling to one another.

This is one of my favorite places in uptown Minneapolis. A little pricey but the ambience is a ton of fun. A unique menu, fun drinks and friendly staff. They have a great happy hour appetizer menu. Good pick up place for happy hour if youare single. Great to entertain out of town guests.

The "trendiest" spot in Uptown- an experience everyone should have at least once. The food is very good and certainly unique, but avoid dinning with less than 4 as the dishes are large and meant to share. The atmopshere is great, as long as you don't mind the blaring music. The bar/lounge is something to avoid except during happy hour.

Overall, Chino is a fun and unique dining experince- great to share with a large group of friends for a special occassion.

I reserved the Community Table for my friends birthday on a Friday night. I expected the loud noise and fun atmosphere...What I didn't expect was the RUDE Service by BOTH of our Servers and insulting remarks made to me and my guests. Our male server was horrible and made it clear that he did care about Guest Service what so ever. After our 3-hour meal, our Male Server even had the nerve of presenting us with a $43.00 bill after we all paid....he told us the he "forgot" to put the extra meal charges on the orignal bill. After questioning him on the bill and explaining that he must have made a mistake, the Server got out his cell phone and said "How about I call your friends and tell them to come in a pay their bill." Excuse me? Why would anyone EVER say that? The female Chino Manager ended up coming over and comping the Rude Servers mistake. At no point in time should ANYONE be treated so disrespectfully as we did that Friday (9/29) evening. After reading the other user reviews on this web site, it is apparent that Chino Latino needs some serious Guest Service Training for all of its Servers. I do NOT recommend this restaurant based on the service.

I'm so surprised by many of the reviews on this site that I decided to write my own. I've been to Chino at least a dozen times, for both dinner and drinks. I'm typically a big fan, though you should know what you're getting into.

- Chino is LOUD! This is almost always the case, so if you are looking for an intimate dining experience with serious conversation, I wouldn't recommend it.

- Food - I absolutely love the food here. The menu is huge, with many fun appetizer choices. I suggest ordering a bunch of small dishes to share, as I'm rarely disappointed. The large dishes are meant to be shared, and the portions are huge, so plan accordingly.

- Sushi - If you are going out specifically to have sushi, there are plenty of places in town that do it better. Chino specializes in large, fun rolls, and the presentation is fantastic.

- Drinks - Wide variety and very good, though they can be a bit spendy at $10 for specialty cocktails. If you like martinis, get one here. They may seem expensive, but I haven't found a bigger martini in town!

- Crowd - This is a trendy place, so you will definitely have your share of people looking to be seen, but overall, it is a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

My one thing I don't like about Chino is that the bar area is very narrow and get's extremely crowded. It is always sometimes hard to get a drink. The bamboo lounge in the back is a fun place to hang out, but seating is limited and fills up fast. If you're looking for a fun night out with friends, give Chino a try.

After hearing about this restaurant for many years...I was eagerly looking forward to an after work get together with a group of co-workers. I wish that I had read these reviews prior to going...I could have saved myself a lot of money and a very dull evening. We had a group of 8 and were seated at a large round table and there we were left for a very long time. It was so noisy we were unable to talk to each other, except for the person sitting right next to you. Our waitress finally arrived to take our drink and appetizer orders, but it was so noisy, that I didn't know what was ordered, so I ended up taking potluck. BIG mistake. I'm not sure what I was eating, but I think it was supposed to be hot, but by the time it arrived, it was lukewarm...so was my iced tea...there was no longer any ice in it. By that time, my head was swimiing with the din and I had been there nearly two hours and was starving, so I politely said my good-byes and ran over to Famous Dave's, where I could at least hear myself think, and ordered ribs and Wilbur beans to go and went home and had a wonderfukl "picnic" dinnner with my husband. I have not and I will not ever go back to Chino Latino.

I was excited to try this place, but it ended up not being what I expected. The waitstaff was rude and had their noses in the air most of the night. We tried to get our servers attention a few times and she seemed to ignore us while trying to grab the attention of the guy at the other table. The food wasn't as good as I'd hoped, and over priced. We ordered sushi and it was a little stale and fishy. The drinks were fun though. We were there around close, and about 30 min. before it WAS time to close, most employees were giving us the evil eye, and our server told us a few times it was closing time. We felt like very unwanted. Won't be going there agian.

Chino Latino was cool. Our waitress was really nice and pretty attentive even though she was catering to a bunch of tables. Our drinks were really good - I got the one where you get to keep the glass. We started off with the Bulgolgi wraps. They were really tasty but we made a mess but our waitress was cool and brought us hot towels to freshen up for dinner. We had the sushi roll with the spicy tuna in the middle. That wasn't so great because the rice wasn't cooked all the way. I know I'm from SF and am exposed to lots of japanese food, but that sushi was just a mess. It looked good on the plate though.. I can give them that much. Then we had the j3rk chicken. It was humongous! It was a whole chicken with rice, black beans, and plantains. It was really good. We ended up taking most of it home. Overall I'd recommend Chino Latino.

I love this place!!! During happy hour it gets extremely busy (because its one of the best in town- $2-$4 menu). Go- but go early if you want to sit. They have a great dining room and creative delicious menu if you dont want to deal with the crowded bar (but no happy hour prices).

The atmosphere of this place reminds me of my many fave places in NYC, but the service was extremely slow even on a Tuesday. Our waiter (Sean) constantly forgot about us for bigger and more profitable tables and we repeatedly asked for our appetizer which ended up coming last. We finally asked the manager where our food was because after 1 ½ hrs we were ready to leave. Instantly it appeared out of nowhere. Very pricey too and parking was difficult.

Chino Latino is NOT as good as it is made out to be. If you are looking for a place to go where you will see your immediately rude server only three times during your meal (one to take drink orders, one to take food orders and one for the bill), where your small amount of food is arranged in a cool way for twice what it is worth, where the entire staff act like they are too cool to help you or talk to you and where you won't be seated forever even though you see open tables than Chino Latino is your place. Our server acted like he automatically deserved our money and didnt need to give us good service to get it. I don't think so. I work hard for my money and so should he. Sorry Chino Latino, but you lost at least 10 customers.

I find it strange that so many previous reviews have negative things to say about Chino Latino; I've been there several times and each time was a fun and memorable experience! The food is amazing; a wonderful variety that changes daily. I recommend the paella, scallops, and black laab. Entrees can be large, so ask the server before ordering. Desserts are pricey but excellent; the smores platter is fun and delicious cap to the meal. There is only one way to describe the atmosphere: FUN! People are always laughing and having a great time. The lighting, decor, and general ambiance is unique and simulating. My experiences with the waitstaff have all been positive. Servers are friendly and knowledgable, and the head chef even stopped by my table on a recent trip and asked how the food was. I've never had any problems splitting bills or paying by credit card, either.

Very cool space but pretty much lacking otherwise! VERY crowded and loud. Make reservations and show up at the same time because you will not be seated until your entire party arrives. Food is quite good, albeit a little spendy. The smores dessert is fun and wonderfully delicious. Pot stickers, satay and sushi are all very good.

With groups your best bet is to do the "tasting menu" or whatever it is called. $20 per person and, I believe, all you can eat. Otherwise, on weekends, food can take up to 2 hours.

SERVICE is VERY MUCH lacking here! They don't like to take more than one credit card, will not do split checks, can not do more than one tab at the table. Also, be aware, Chino adds a 25% gratuity to parties. Yes, REALLY 25% automatic gratuity.

When it comes to rating a restaurant, the quality of food is the most important thing. It was terrible. My friend ordered the thai lettuce cup with beef and it smelled like wet dog. The beef had no seasonings in it, just ground beef with lettuce. My boyfriend ordered the enchiladas de pollo and it was very plain. Just chicken and beans with some cheap lettuce shreds on it --- alright if you have no taste buds.
The drinks, on the other hand were fun. I got the Crack Ho Mojito, which was a mojito with 3 viles filled with mango puree, raspberry puree, and blackberry puree. Fun, but there are a lot of other places you can go to for good drinks.
The place was so loud that my friends and I were covering our ears. The staff were rude and were not blessed with the ability to smile.
