Pet Haven is an outstanding organization! They are extremely compassionate, caring, and, when it
comes to adoptions, they are thorough in making sure there is a good match between the pet being adopted and the new owners. I adopted from Pet Haven 12 years ago and was highly impressed with how thorough they were with the adoption process.
I would highly recommend them.

(We adopted in Dec 2007.) We went to several agencies when looking to adopt our cat first cat, and had the best experience with Pet Haven. I emailed them with our application and preferred personality characteristics, and they got back to me quickly with several possible matches. Their focus was clearly on matching the right pet to our lifestyle, rather than just unloading adoptable animals on us. This was the only group we went to who didn't try to pressure us into adopting more than one cat (we explained why we only wanted to adopt one to start with, and assured them that we were specifically interested in a people-centered cat, and that was the end of it). All the people we dealt with along the way (volunteers and foster parents) were friendly and helpful.

The only negative point (taking the rating from 5 to 4 stars), is that their policy is to keep the microchip ID information in their name. We move around a lot, and it makes me nervous to not have the first point of contact be us. (We've already moved once since adopting, and despite providing them with our new contact info, the newsletters/mailers have still been sent to our old address.)

This organization was terrible to work with. Most of the volunteers were nice, but one in particular was hostile and rude. Their descriptions of dogs are inaccurate on their website (they omit challenging behaviors including extreme aggression towards other dogs) and a particularly rude volunteer grilled me at a pet event for being interested in a dog with challenging behaviors (that I was unaware of). She basically shamed me for not an expert on this particular dog. We ended up adopting a dog from a friendlier and more helpful rescue organization.

I would not recommend this organization to anyone, especially a first-time pet owner.
