The Source as a force for Minnesota Gaming.

by Matt M.

I think that the Source is the epitome of what gaming store should be. The are a great group of folks who not only provide gaming equipment, but like to help out gamers. They do a lot for the community of gaming and I frequent them a LOT. I am a loyal customer and fan of the Source . .they have done a LOT for Minnesota and Gaming. Mahy of the famous people in gaming (R.A.Salvatore just to name one) makes sure to visit the Source on their way through Minnesota.

Top Comic & Game Store

by Sarah G. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,237

It is rare to find a decent game store, or a decent comic shop, or a decent place to buy anime. Source is a world class outlet for all three! If you can't find what you need here, then there is no point looking!

They have a huge selection of boardgames, roleplaying games, minatures, comics, trade paperbacks, and videos. Plus they have a game area that is always packed with people playing card, board, and miniatures games.

PROS: World class Game, Video, and Comic books store.
CONS: A bit cramped...

An amazing amount of stuff!

by Kelly J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,181

My husband would LIVE here if he could. They have an absolutely humongous selection of role playing games, comic books (both mainstream and obscure), movies, books, and just about any game true gamers would want. The main thing I do not like about this store is that they have SO much stuff, you can get a major case of claustrophobia if you're there too long. It's a great place to go, though - the staff knows what you're looking for even if you don't, which is great if you're the wife buying for the gamer!

hobby shop with lots of good unique stuff

by Alex L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,629

if your into board games, comics, manga, and other collectibles, This is definitely the place to go. THey sell so much stuff: figurines, specialty chess sets, hundreds of comics, random collectibles, manga and more. THe prices are average with some really cheap offers. THe staff enjoys the stuff they're selling and are really friendly.

Best place for comics and such

by mona m. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,617

Whether you are looking for the normal variety or something special this is the store to shop at. The are best in the Twin Cities because they are always stocked with lots of goodies that prompts a trip almost every week! The staff is pretty heads up too!

PROS: parking, location
CONS: none

More Than Comics Here..

by Anonymous

I admit it, I'm a geek. I go to a comic book store. But I don't go here for the comic books. And although they have a wide variety of comic books, I can't really review how well they're laid out, or how many they have, or how great the back issues are, since I never look at them.

I go here for the card games. My boyfriend and I buy Magic: The Gathering cards frequently from here. Sometimes we go to Shinder's, but usually it's here. These guys know people, they're local, they hold tournaments - although now they are DCI sanctioned, so it's more regulated than the good old days. You can sell cards for store credit, or, I suppose, for straight cash. You can buy cards you want by looking through the case by the front register. I played my first tournaments here, and it just holds a special place in my heart for that.

Now they've expanded out, gotten more space. Granted, that's more for the little figurines for your tabletop games, the little guys you'd paint for your D&D campaigns and whatnot. Again, not my thing.

They also have a lot of books. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Adventure, as well as some cyberpunk stuff. A few old books. Manga - I like that. They also sell my Newtype and Shoujo Beat. And they have some hilarious stuffed "animals". I particularly enjoy the plush helm of the Knights of Ni.

One thing that's a bit annoying, that keeps me from giving them a full five stars: Oh. My. God. They. Are. EXPENSIVE. Holy crap. DVDs go for like 30 bucks a pop here. I think they'd take your arm if they could. Most things like cards have a set price across the country by the manufacturer, so they can't overprice those, but the other stuff, it's ridiculous. So mostly, if I don't buy cards, I just browse, because I can't afford to spend $50 on that plush Knights of Ni helmet.

PROS: lots of stuff, variety, plenty of board games you've never seen ANYWHERE
CONS: oh my god the prices are high

A world class model

by Bryan T. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,915

One of the best examples of a game, comic book, and literature store. Nice, clean, decent prices for a comic book shop and friendly to families and fans.

Great selection of comics and games

by Marchelle G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,287

This large comic and game store located between Minneaplis and St. Paul provides a huge selection of comics and games as well as collectibles, with a well informed and helpful staff. They also run local game tournaments such as Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons in addition to sponsoring special events on a regular basis. Make The Source your first source for all your gaming needs.

The Ultimate Comic & Game Store

by Steve A.

The Source is located right in between Minneapolis & St. Paul. I'm guessing that it's about 10,000 square feet. Quite simply the have the largest selection of comic books and games I've ever seen. They carry all comic book titiles and all trade paprbacks & graphic novels and have a huge selection of back issues. The staff is educated, informed and very pleasant to deal with and they have a ton of free off street parking. I can't recommend this store highly enough!
