I am a vintage comic collector. The Source has an okay selection of silver/bronze and some gold, but the pricing for this material is way off, and I do mean significantly. You can find beat issues of Captain America or Iron Man or Avengers (i'm talking 25 cent price issues from mid 70's, nothing special) for like $5-$10, in ONLY FAIR OR GOOD CONDITION, these are items that you would find in most peoples quarter bins, their Silver age books are priced even more astronomically ridiculous. The thing is, and i've gone to this store sporadically for at least a decade, the same books are still there and have never sold. Matter of fact you can see multiple price stickers on these books, where they actually RAISED the prices over the years for this non saleable material, do these guys want to sell this stuff? Even if they offered a 50% off sale, the prices would triple to quadruple guide prices.
Now they do have a great selection of new comics and graphic novels (with no discounts), but you can buy this stuff from Amazon at 30% off with no tax (a real savings of 37%) anyways. It's a great place browse for newer items, but if your trying to save money, don't go here.

Great selection of everything games, comics, manga, etc. If you're trying to find a specific game and can't find it at any of the chains, try this place.

Easy to find, fair parking and access, and an outstanding selection of games! There is quite a bit of space dedicated to comics, as well as quite a large gaming area. The staff is helpful and fairly well educated on the games themselves. Thumbs up! They have done much for the Metro area gaming scene.

I think that the Source is the epitome of what gaming store should be. The are a great group of folks who not only provide gaming equipment, but like to help out gamers. They do a lot for the community of gaming and I frequent them a LOT. I am a loyal customer and fan of the Source . .they have done a LOT for Minnesota and Gaming. Mahy of the famous people in gaming (R.A.Salvatore just to name one) makes sure to visit the Source on their way through Minnesota.

Occupying a tail end of a hard to get to strip mail I thought this chatted up shop (Hans @ Uncle Svens told me about this place, thank you!) was going to be another let down (see my review of Dreamhaven Books & Comics) though the second I opened the doors I knew I was home. The Source carries everything a Nerdyboy Fanboy needs! Comics Books, Manga, Statues, RPG and more. The gaming section, more than half the size of the store, is pretty impressive. Not only do they have practically every gaming accessory imaginable (including a whole book section on war battle tactics) there's plenty of tables to throw down at. If your ever in town you should give them a visit!

Have you been here? It's like a Comic Book & Game paradise! Easily the largest selection of spectacular stuff I've ever seen. The width and depth of their selection is absolutely amazing! There's always something new and exciting! The staff has a level of expertise that is unsurpassed. It's obvious they love what they do and they do it like nobody else. In addition, they're kind and considerate to their customers and very active in supporting local charities and folks in need. Be careful going to this store, because if you do, you'll be spoiled forever!

I think that this used to be one of the best gaming stores in the cities... then they became so big and lost that home townie type of flavor they used to have. They used to remember you when you came in but I moved and have not gone in as often as I used to.. so that may be the cause too hehe). My point is though it just does not have the same feel it did before. The books for gaming (old D&D books) are stuffed in drawers now and the 4th edition stuff is displayed on circular spinning displays instead of on the old magazine type racks like they used to.
While I still go there I do not go as often because it just does not seem the same. I like my game store to be warm and inviting and "The Source" just does not have that feel anymore. Now I do have to agree if this store does not have something chances are no store will likely have it.. if it is new. If it is used I will debate that issue as there are small game stores in the cities that will have just as likely a chance to have it over this store too.
The service is decent.. if you do not mind going to the counter and waiting your turn to ask a question. I will continue to go here once in a while, but it definitely is becoming less and less compared to years past.

Pros: Huge line of gaming materials...

Cons: It is almost like a gaming department store now. lost that invitiing feel they once had

The staff is extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming! They're always helpful and are up on all the new games, and what's in the works. The store's selection is amazing. It can get pricey. They also have a discount program called the "Adventure Club Card." For a small fee you get a discount card that grants you 10% off anything in the store. This is especially helpful when they have they're sales because you can add the card on top of any discounts already applied!

The only downside is they have a totally crappy website. But their in-store customer service offsets their extremely poor online presence. In this day and age how can you not have a decent website??!

It is rare to find a decent game store, or a decent comic shop, or a decent place to buy anime. Source is a world class outlet for all three! If you can't find what you need here, then there is no point looking!

They have a huge selection of boardgames, roleplaying games, minatures, comics, trade paperbacks, and videos. Plus they have a game area that is always packed with people playing card, board, and miniatures games.

PROS: World class Game, Video, and Comic books store.
CONS: A bit cramped...

My husband would LIVE here if he could. They have an absolutely humongous selection of role playing games, comic books (both mainstream and obscure), movies, books, and just about any game true gamers would want. The main thing I do not like about this store is that they have SO much stuff, you can get a major case of claustrophobia if you're there too long. It's a great place to go, though - the staff knows what you're looking for even if you don't, which is great if you're the wife buying for the gamer!

if your into board games, comics, manga, and other collectibles, This is definitely the place to go. THey sell so much stuff: figurines, specialty chess sets, hundreds of comics, random collectibles, manga and more. THe prices are average with some really cheap offers. THe staff enjoys the stuff they're selling and are really friendly.

Whether you are looking for the normal variety or something special this is the store to shop at. The are best in the Twin Cities because they are always stocked with lots of goodies that prompts a trip almost every week! The staff is pretty heads up too!

I admit it, I'm a geek. I go to a comic book store. But I don't go here for the comic books. And although they have a wide variety of comic books, I can't really review how well they're laid out, or how many they have, or how great the back issues are, since I never look at them.

I go here for the card games. My boyfriend and I buy Magic: The Gathering cards frequently from here. Sometimes we go to Shinder's, but usually it's here. These guys know people, they're local, they hold tournaments - although now they are DCI sanctioned, so it's more regulated than the good old days. You can sell cards for store credit, or, I suppose, for straight cash. You can buy cards you want by looking through the case by the front register. I played my first tournaments here, and it just holds a special place in my heart for that.

Now they've expanded out, gotten more space. Granted, that's more for the little figurines for your tabletop games, the little guys you'd paint for your D&D campaigns and whatnot. Again, not my thing.

They also have a lot of books. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Adventure, as well as some cyberpunk stuff. A few old books. Manga - I like that. They also sell my Newtype and Shoujo Beat. And they have some hilarious stuffed "animals". I particularly enjoy the plush helm of the Knights of Ni.

One thing that's a bit annoying, that keeps me from giving them a full five stars: Oh. My. God. They. Are. EXPENSIVE. Holy crap. DVDs go for like 30 bucks a pop here. I think they'd take your arm if they could. Most things like cards have a set price across the country by the manufacturer, so they can't overprice those, but the other stuff, it's ridiculous. So mostly, if I don't buy cards, I just browse, because I can't afford to spend $50 on that plush Knights of Ni helmet.

PROS: lots of stuff, variety, plenty of board games you've never seen ANYWHERE
CONS: oh my god the prices are high

This large comic and game store located between Minneaplis and St. Paul provides a huge selection of comics and games as well as collectibles, with a well informed and helpful staff. They also run local game tournaments such as Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons in addition to sponsoring special events on a regular basis. Make The Source your first source for all your gaming needs.

The Source is located right in between Minneapolis & St. Paul. I'm guessing that it's about 10,000 square feet. Quite simply the have the largest selection of comic books and games I've ever seen. They carry all comic book titiles and all trade paprbacks & graphic novels and have a huge selection of back issues. The staff is educated, informed and very pleasant to deal with and they have a ton of free off street parking. I can't recommend this store highly enough!
