I need to buy a sari. I have plenty of family in India and Chicago willing to find one for me. But, I thought I would buy local, you know, give some business to a store in my neighborhood. Unfortunately the experience was quite disappointing. I shop many of the stores on Central Avenue but will not be returning to this one. First, the shop owner (I presume) was on the telephone for most of my visit and this was frustrating as I was looking at high end saris in a case behind her. Second, I found one sari that might have worked, but the store owner (quite arrogantly) refused to let me take a picture so that I could have share it with my mother who is currently in Florida (I need her approval as to whether the sari was appropriate for the event). It was apparent she did not want my business so I will assume she does not want my friends, family or neighbors shopping there either. Oh well. I guess I will take my $300 and spend it elsewhere.

I have been shopping at NM Designs for over a year now, after having been taken there by a friend of mine. Noleen sells gorgeous Indian clothing for extremely reasonable prices. There is a better than usual range of ladies sizes for such a store, including thankfully 'plus size' garments without having to special order for fit. Also baby and mens garments. You can get everything here from a simple shirt at about $30 to wedding saris ranging into the multiple thousands. Noleen stands by her products. I purchased a beaded shirt there and upon wearing it found that the beads around the neck abraded my skin, I took it in and she fixed it immediately and with a smile. She also sells accessories, again in a huge range, suitable for gifts of any level. Try out NM Designs, you really won't be disappointed.
