I have had 2 kids treat with Hultgren and Hoxie. The only reason I have continued there is because it's convenient - in other words, if there were a better option, I would go elsewhere. My oldest child had some gaps between her front teeth that were corrected. Once that was done, they put her on the list for "phase 2." It was never really explained to us why this was really necessary (and according to our regular dentist, it was not). I got multiple phone calls asking when we were going to bring her in for her treatment. At the time, we were just starting treatment for our 2nd child-- he most definitely DID need braces. I had to call them and let them know that I felt like the repeated phone calls were solicitation calls-- If I wanted her to come in, that I would initiate making the appt. Furthermore, we were having a hard enough time coming up with the $$ for one child, let alone 2. I am not against orthodontic treatment when it is truly necessary. But lately it seems like EVERY child is recommended for braces, whether they truly need them or not. As mentioned in another review, there are several chairs all lined up in row, with no privacy in between. The waiting room is typically packed. 40 yrs ago, it seemed that very few kids got braces-- now, it's the "in" thing (and yes, it seems to be a status symbol these days). Granted, we have no experience with any other orthodontic office- maybe they are all this way. I am looking forward to the day when my child is done and we don't have to deal with this anymore...

H, H & W have done a good job with my teeth, so no fault there with that level of service. However, I am an adult, and I have to say that every time I go in there, I am treated like a 12-year-old. I just don??t get it. Of course, most of their patients are 12-year-olds, but their staff should have some sort of training or awareness that you cannot treat an obvious adult as a child. First of all, after I got my braces put in, I was given what I would call a cartoon-book on how to care for your braces. The staff is nice, don??t get me wrong. But, secondly, I have been patted on the shoulder, called a star performer, told, ??you??re so cute,? and such by several staff members. And, most importantly, I get the strange feeling that every time I ask a question, I am supposed to just sit there and be quiet, and they will discuss any issues with my parents!! Granted, seating is wide open, so it is kind??a like an assembly-line of patients, but adults are still going to expect that their questions be answered. One time I found a willing assistant who actually didn??t seem put off by my questioning, so I kept asking her several questions. After just a few minutes, one of the dentists actually came over to her and said something like, ??wrap it up? or whatever??all this was done in front of me??and as soon as the dentist left, the assistant turned and said to me, ??okay, we are done.? Sorry, but you just do not do this to an adult. They need some sort of protocol and training for their staff on how to treat adults. You do need to make a social switch in your mind when you are servicing an adult vs. a child, and from what I??ve seen, none of their staff is even aware they need to be making this switch. BUT, otherwise, service has definitely been good there. If you are an adult, I would say go, but expect to be treated like an adolescent.

They are fabulous at H & H. Two of my children have been through braces and I have just had mine taken off after two years. They are very kind and patient!

The staff and doctors are always patient and kind - even when my child doesn't comply with their instructions! Orthodontia seems like it will last forever, but the results are worth it.
