Paper Patisserie doesn't have some of everything, but they have a great collection of a smaller number of items. They have beautiful wrapping paper: a full wall of really special sheets of wrapping paper. Just a few sheets makes for a special hostess gift, etc. They have unique cards, and really gorgeous hand-made journals. Nice location on Cathedral Hill in St. Paul.

Pros: Special selection

Cons: Not a huge store

I wish I could have skipped my visit here. Obviously, the clerk didn't know much about fountain pens, nor was the owner helpful. They did not have a water test (a blotter which turns water to ink color and then disappears so one can test the size of the nib), and I had no way of knowing which pen to choose. When I went to exchange the pen or have her order another nib, I was told "there was nothing to be done!". How silly - she was supposed to have called LAMY or figure out some way to satisfy the customer. I went online and emailed the company - they are most agreeable, and I will never patronize this business. Again. I suggested to the company that they stop distributing their pens at this store, as there are a number of other venues which provide much more satisfactory service. She was worried about a $10 charge, I believe, so she did even bother to call and check it out. Sad, but true. Their policy is credit or exchange. The Wet Paint carries these pens - I suggest you shop there instead.

I always wish I lived in an Edith Wharton novel, so I could have vellum calling cards to leave on the silver tray in the foyer. If you want to have some made up, you can have the Paper Patisserie do the real thing - engraved, embossed, etc.

They also have a ton of great gifts, fancy pens, fine paper, handmade photo albums & some beautiful stitched journals.

Martha Stewart had the right idea: marry someone with a WASPy name, and make sure to have it engraved on the most expensive stationary you can find. This is the place to have it done.
