Every time we visit Minneapolis (our daughters) we have to go to Sebastian Joe's on Franklin street for the ice cream variety and the coffee. It's a great pleasure to take the grandchildren who pick a different ice cream flavor each time.

We were vising the area and spent some time searching around on-line to find a good place to take our kids to get ice cream. We came across Sebastian's and the reviews looked good, so we decided to try it out. Due to where we were staying

I don't know why I expected warm fuzzies when I entered Sebastian Joe's for the first (and last) time in years today. Perhaps it was because I have such good memories of going there when I was little; I didn't expect the cold welcome and the rude comments by the cashier as she told me and my husband that we could not stay in the establishment because we had dunn bros coffee in our hands. Perhaps the owners of the two establishments are in a bitter blood feud, and cannot stand even the sight of the other store... regardless, I think it is bad policy to humiliate one's customers

They have pretty much the best ice cream in twin cities. I especially like Oreo! Also Rum and Raising is very good.

I see they now have a fan site at sebastianjoe com

I love this ice cream shop! It has a very quaint, old town feel in the middle of a big city. They have this pretty indoor seating area with a fireplace and also an outdoor seating area with twinkly lights.

The only complaint I have is they should shove ice cream into the bottom of the cone. Otherwise you eat the ice cream and all you are left with is the cone. Give me a reason to eat the cone! It would be nice if they put an M&M in the bottom so ice cream won't drip out. (Hint, hint).

I brought my family here after a nice Sushi dinner. Looking for a good ice cream desert. NOT! The children, 12 year olds, were disappointed when they received their Dixi cup sized single scoop for $3.05. I had a single scoop of chocolate with syrup, whipped cream, and nuts for $6 plus. This they call a Sundae? Guess they have never visited Baskin Robins! I've had better from Cub. Next time we'll go to IZZY'S.

I've lived in the Uptown area for close to a year now and have heard many things about Sebastian Joe's, negative and positive. The one time my boyfriend and I actually made it in for a visit, it was the middle of summer and the place was PACKED. We gave up and left just for lack of patience, but my curiosity was officially piqued. I read all the reviews I could find and have to say I was a little hesitant, but I still wanted to make my own judgment. So today ended up being the day and I was not disappointed.

The girl behind the counter was very sweet and, after hearing that it was our first visit, encouraged us to taste everything (tempting, but we limited ourselves to just a few samples). We ended up getting the Pavarotti Sundae and a two scoop cup with Oreo and Sebastian's Favorite. It was all absolutely delicious. The consistency of the ice cream was perfect and it was very rich in flavor. The Oreo was seriously heaven and I think my bf regretted not ordering that in a sundae.

I have to say, if you're thinking about trying this place, try it! Don't let the negative reviews sway you. There's a reason the lines are out the door in the summer. I concede that everyone has different tastes and may not agree with my assessment, but giving this place a shot and deciding for yourself probably isn't going to break the bank. And if that is a possibility, go during the winter. The lower the temp, the higher the discount. And it will be less busy too. In summary, I recommend this place.

Rotating selection of ice cream flavors with favorites always available. Now they are roasting their own coffee beans as well. Sometimes they even have coffee flavored ice creams! Yay! A marriage made in heaven.

Pros: Service, parking, ambiance, run by good people

Cons: need more non-sweet food at LH store...soups are there now but maybe sandwiches?

.

The lady behind the counter was rude.
The ice cream was too runny (I know that might sound stupid, but it IS possible to keep it at a temperature and consistency so it doesn't get EVERYWHERE right away).
The cones are too small for the ice cream scoops, they need to make them to be more accommodating. My hands were sticky from the dipped cone and the ice cream before I finished paying.
They were out of napkins at the counter.
Waaay overpriced ($5-6 per cone).
The ice cream wasn't that good, very lacking in flavor and sugar. I've had better quality consistently at big chain places like Cold Stone.
Very little parking.

I love this place. The ice cream is great and the people are nice. I would reccomend anyone go here! I now live in a new state, but I definitely miss living in Uptown and walking to get the great ice cream of Sabstian Joe's on hot Minnesota summer nights.

This my absolute favorite icecream place in the Twin Cities. They just renovated the Linden Hills location and added a cute outdoor porch and fireplace. There is always a new icecream to try but its so hard to not order my favorite the Pavarotti (Banana, caramel and chocolate!) when you know how good it is!

I take all my out of town friends to Sebastian Joe's- its a Cities icon!

I've been a fan of ice cream since age 6 and aside from cream and dream in prague, this is the best ice cream I've ever had. I love the oreo and pavoratti. If you're feeling a little daring, try a scoop of chocolate coyote with a glass of water.

I like the classics. Sure the Oreo is what everyone always wants but have you ever tried the chocolate? Just plain chocolate? I loved it growing up and when I moved to Seattle I had fantasies for years about having it shipped to me by the crate. No one makes their chocolate with such care to create such simple lovely chocolaty flavor. If you haven't tried it, get yourself a scoop and enjoy the discounts for the unbearable winters and relatively recent addition of computers for free internet access. Also they are open late and packed usually right until close which means on one hand you'll likely stand in line even if it is 11:30pm, but on the other you won't feel like an intruder coming in a half hour before close.

My first coffee experience when i moved to the USA, became a coffee addict. Tried 'em all, Seb J's has the best decaf latte out there. Best bakery treats too, you allready know about the ice cream, try the flavors B4 you buy too, helpfull staff, a must stop after walking the dogs around Lake of the Isles, you'll often see a few puppies lying under the tables outside, worth going out of your way for.

well.. i live in minneapolis actually about 2 miles away from sebastian joes. i found out about them when i saw that they were the #1 ice cream spot in the twin cities. they didnt let me down at all. the ice cream is great(the flavors change slightly every day). there is a line every time i go there, no matter what day or time, but for some reason they seem to have great service that moves you along pretty well. the neighboorhood and the entire feeling you get when your there is really great. one con, is that if your driving you'll have a tough time finding parking. but without a doubt i recommend sebastian joe's.

I do not live in Minneapolis, but have been exposed to Sebastian Joe's during my last two visits. This is some of the very best ice cream I have ever consumed, and I've traveled all over the world. The mocha mint and caffe latte are outstanding. It's expensive, but,as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't think of visiting Minneapolis without a visit to Sebastian Joe's.

Sebastian Joes is famous for homemade, all natural ice cream. They will give you samples if youre not sure what flavor youd like and flavors can be quite adventurous. To me their ice cream tastes just fine, probably not as good as Sonnys, but better than many commercial brands. This place is really busy in summer, partly because of its convenient location, but mostly because of regulars. You have to try this place at least once, especially if you have children.

I am an ice cream freak, and this place is great! The ice cream is homemade daily, and comes in unique flavors. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way--seating is hard to find on a nice summer evening! Parking can sometimes be difficult, but the ice cream is definitely worth it.

I no longer live in Minneapolis, but when I did, going for a walk in my neighborhood usually included a stop at Sebastian Joe's for a cup of Pavarotti. It is the absolute best of any ice cream flavor I have ever had, and I'm not ashamed to say I eat my share of ice cream. Although not as much now that I live in California and I can't take a walk to Seastian Joes. If you live anywhere in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in. You won't be disapointed...just make sure you hit the gym afterwards.

Anyways, I went to Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream Cafe' on a trip to the cities to do service project. I have searched far and wide for anything to compare to Sebatian Joe's Oreo Cookie Ice Cream. Alas, I have come up empty. It's so full of Oreo's the ice cream is almost a gray color and the chunks of Oreos are big enough for you to actually enjoy more than just a teasing crumb. If they would put a franchise in Madison, WI I would be there every day.

I love this place. Though there isn't much seating available...it doesn't matter. The ice cream tastes the same standing up. I love the variety they have...they're REALLY busy so, sometimes you can't really try most of the flavors you're considering. However, anyone that you choose will be a perfect selection.

The ice cream is good quality, but the flavor selection has always left a lot to be desired. They are trying to be too frou-frou. Garlic in ice cream? Give me a break. They need a lesson from the Edina Creamery and the Grand Old Creamery.

Joe's has great selection and wonderful ice cream. It deserves to be rated #3 in the Twin Cities behind Grand Ole Creamery in St. Paul and my top pick, Cold Stone Creamery in Maple Grove and soon coming to Block E on 7th & Hennepin. The Twin Cities is blessed to have this many "super premium" ice cream stores. Prices may seem high but to only those who will eat anything if the price is cheap enough.

The flavor was great, but for $3.50, you should have ice cream in your cone. I did get one scoop, and that's all it was, sitting on top of an empty waffle cone. I wouldn't go back because I thought it was overpriced for the little bit I got... but if I was desperately craving ice cream and was in the area, I would succumb.
