Tiburon Caribbean Bistro is a fun seafood/caribbean fare restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The food is excellent; they have a wide range to their menu. It ranges from high end seafood to low end inexpensive appetizers. The decor of this place is so much fun! They have a HUGE fish tank that separates part of the bar and the restaurant. It is very relaxing to watch the tropical fish as you are sipping on a fruity cocktail. They also have some small ponds with fish. Great decor and a fun place to meet friends for a nice dinner.

PROS: Wonderful food--fantastic decor!
CONS: none

My boyfriend and I were so psyched to try Tiburon after hearing so much about it. We made a reservation and were glad we did-even on a Sunday evening they were quite busy. There were several large parties dining that evening; however, we rarely saw our server. It was nearly an hour after we sat down before we saw our appetizer. Then it was another 30 minutes before we saw dinner. We don't like to be critical of service, so we looked around to see if our server was extremely busy, but he didn't appear to be serving many of the tables. The lighting was great--it constantly changes colors and is relaxing. The food was okay--our scallop appetizer was nothing to write home about and the entrees were tasty yet nothing special. Overall--an average dinner that lasted over 2.5 hours.

I dined at Tiburon with 2 of my friends. We made reservations and were seated promptly. However, promptly was not a reoccurring theme for our dining experience. We were seated around 8:30 and didn't see our waiter until around 9:00! The person filling water had been to our table and dropped off some bread which was great. Two of us ordered Mojitos (awesome)! We hadn't ordered any appetizers or desserts and still were not able to leave the restaurant until 10:30 due to slow, poor service. We planned on getting a bottle of wine and dessert but opted not to because we knew it'd take another hour or so. I will say, the waiter was quick to drop the check off. The table next to ours had experienced the same difficulties and actually had to flag down a server. That's terrible!

if you sit at a table for more than 3 hours and there are only 2 of you and you are asked to move to the bar and offered a free round of drinks i dont think that is rude. Have you ever worked in a restaurant? there are other people that want to have dinner just like you! Servers make there minimum wage plus tips to live. Please show some respect to the people who give you service. The place is awesome. Very FUN! Staff is very friendly and fun. So remember dont be a dick and you will get some respect back!

Had 7:30 reservations last Satuday and showed up at 7:25 to be informed that they were running behind and the wait was about an hour. Sat at the bar and checked at front desk at 8:35 to be thanked since they had forgotten about us and were sitting the 7:45s. Sat down shortly after to be informed that they were out of crapes and jerk chicken, exactly what we wanted. Got served at about 9:20 and couldn't get out of there fast enough (9:40). Lousy service and limited selection ruined everything.

About all this place has going for it is the kitchen is open late - past 10:00 pm on the weeknights. Yes it has a big aquarium, but unless you've never seen one before it's hardly what could be called a main draw. Our waitress had the annoying habit of comment on everything we ordered, we did not ask her for suggestions and evidently our choices were not on her "A" list of things to eat or drink at Tiburon. The food was tasty, portions very generous, delivered promptly and at a hot temperature; but is a far cry from true Caribbean unless it's the Minnesotan version of Caribbean (kind of like how ketchup is Minnesotan for spicy). Hardly worth the hefty price tag.

Tiburon Caribbean Bistro is a fun place to go for a night on the town. The food is very good but the real draw is the dancing and drinks. The service at Tiburon is wonderful and after a few cocktails their Latin Dancing nights can't be beat. A very interesting crowd makes for an enjoyable time for all. It is a little bit expensive so that is really the only drawback.

This restaurant has become our favorite repeat place... usually we try someplace new each time.

We love the varied menu, especially the everchanging chef's menu. We also love to sit in the booths to view the grass/light wall and the huge aquarium.

I love their mojitos, lobster tacos and the yummy honey butter that comes with the complimentary bread basket. We will be back... often.

A large group of friends checked out Tiburon on a Friday night and we had a wonderful time. Most of the group enjoyed seafood for entrees. The Mahi Mahi was outstanding, seafood crepes were unbelieveable. Those who had the filet with crab and bernaise were also very happy. After the meal we stayed to see the band Salsa de Soul. Very good salsa and a great crowd. A great night out!

Really great menu for food and drinks. The service was very quick, even a little too fast/urgent, perhaps because the restaurant wasn't that full, especially for a Saturday night. Seated immediately with no res. However, there are pitfalls designed to increase your tab. Specials seem to be the most expensive items, so ask prices before thinking they're better values. Appetizer was dramatically undercooked and the entree was overcooked. Final insult: asked for some extra black beans in the take home, was charged $5 and got no beans. Ow. The mule martini was good with ginger beer and rum - yum.

Attractive ambience, but courses were served much too quickly. Had to ask waiter to slow down, but still had the impression we were being rushed although the restaurant was far from full. Overdone fish. We ordered a molten chocolate dessert and were told the chocolate interior would flow out of its cake container (had this a number of times at other places), but it was solid. Waiter tacked on to the ticket a dessert we neither ordered nor even mentioned. Would we return? Yes. One less than satisfactory experience isn't enough to write the place off.

Our dinner was very good. Our server was good, clued us in to a recipe for Mahi Mahi we liked. We ended up sitting near the kitchen which we did not like. The decor is wonderful.
The only negative is that the appetizers were a little smaller than expected.

Yeah, okay, so they got the nice big aquarium in the center. Okay, so they got an illuminating lamp that can change colors continuously. So they got nice seat and fancy fancy dressed up waiter. So, does that justifies spending over $30 on foods so small in portion, that you will get your belly full only thanks to the free glasses of water??!! Forget it!!!
I MUST ADMIT THOUGH that the DESSERTS are just mouth-watering and jaw-dropping. Even if I have to eat here again...I will only come for the dessert (which perhaps are the best ever...).

Went there on Valentine Day 2004 with my girlfreind. Glad I made a reservation. It was packed. Great atmosphere, but not really romantic due to the crowd and noise, but that was fine with me. Nice design with lighting and huge fish tank. Would definately go back. Service was good. Food was good too, definately need to get some sort of seafood dish.

A nice meal, nothing to call your friends about screaming you wont believe the great meal I just had but good flavor (I had the lobster tacos) and a fair value. The only thing to be cautioned about is you may not be getting the freshest seafood ever. My companions tuna was definitely NOT fresh. On the plus side though she was able to get served the tuna (which is paired with a steak on the menu) without the steak and they cut the price in half.

Ambiance here is very nice (theres that word nice again) but nothing amazing. Not really romantic, yet not a place you want to take your kids. The more I write the more I realize how average this place is. Will I go again? Absolutely! Will I move mountains to do so? No.

My girlfriend and myself dined at Tiburon on Saturday, 3/13/04. The service was excellent and we were seated promptly. However, this was where we had our first run-in. The chairs on one side of the table were soaked in a water spill that was never taken care of. Something to note and also something easily dealt with. Our waiter was knowledgeable, and glasses never empty. Food, however, was another matter. My date's salad was bland and comprised of old, brown lettuce. Despite notifying the kitchen of a food allergy, the kitchen did not withhold the specified ingredients from well-undercooked chicken. Quite a dissapointment when everything else fell into place very well.

This is a place to be enjoying dinner, not running in and out. Our server was fabulous -- great personality and she was willing to follow our pace --so we didn't feel rushed, and we by no means thought she was slow. Food was also fabulous -- lobster cakes for hors d'oeuvres were not bready at all. The conch soup and hearts of palm salad were magnificent -- the soup had just enough heat (not "midwestern" heat) to make it interesting. The heat in the yellowtail snapper was perfect -- it did not overpower the flavor of the dish, but it was definitely there. The tres leche cake was a little dry in the center, but the flavor made up for that so much that we didn't even really notice -- just dip it in the sauce it's floating in. Very reasonably priced, too. Would go back in a second.

Calamari: lightly breaded and deep fried, comes with mayo-type dip on a swirl of tomatoes and cilantro. Tasty but ordinary. Lobster Tacos: three, crispy, blue-corn taco shells filled with corn, cheese and lobster (yummy spices, bits of onion or peppers, too). The lobster was in large chunks, some identifiable claw meat. Marvelous! Served with black beans which were dull. Accompaniments: a tad of guacamole and crumbled bits of queso fresco. YUMMY!!! A terrific blend of textures. Price: $19. Tres leches cake. Had it on two occasions perfectly soaked outer layer, next layer was a bit dry, center again very moist. Great flavor, soaked or not. Mention soaking it more when you order it! Splurge and check this place out. Its not the BIG food you get at Oceanaire but not a la carte either. Other appetizers weve had proved to be interesting, of high quality and very tasty.

A one of a kind restaurant in the Twin Cities. A wealth of menu choices (primarily sea food) all with a truly Caribbean flair. Superb flavorings and good size portions. The four coconut crusted shrimp appetizer were jumbo, jumbo with a wonderful guava-horseradish dipping sauce.
The lobster tacos were amazing - the most chunks of lobster Ive had in a dish outside of Boston. The chefs tasting menu ($30), also excellent, included a great salad of dark, crisp greens, cashews and dates. The Sueno De Chocolate dessert was molten heaven (share this one). The ambiance of the 45 aquarium, sea grass and changing colored lights (sunset) was great for a romantic dinner or a family get together.
Great tropical drinks ($9), expensive wine one/two below $30. Service could be better. Web site says valet parking, but we saw no one parking cars. $110 for two including drinks, dessert, coffee.

Order the lobster tacos. Oh my god, they were amazing. The muscles for an appetizer with the garlic and peppers. MMMMM!!!! The pork is good too as are the drinks. The aquarium is pretty impressive from an atmosphere point of view. Every time I've been there we've been seated right away, friendly and fast service. Tyring to find parking without using the valet can be kind of a drag.

Perhaps Midwest-Caribbean is an acquired taste...I had the paella and it was "interesting." Lots of little critters (ie, crayfish, squid legs, etc.), however, it was terribly bland. And I feel I can honestly say it was unimpressive because my date had fabulous-tasting Tilapia and we had fantasticly-flavored jumbo shrimp to start. I would reccomend this more for the delicious drinks and appetizer than for the entrees.

We ate at the restaurant their first night serving food until 2:00am. The service and food were high quality even late at night. The salad was a good value and nice presentation. The jamaican cheeseburger was one of the better sandwiches on the menu. Not your ordinary hamburger. The cuban sandwich was huge enough for two. We returned and had great salads and drinks but was dissappointed in the paella for two-very bland. My last visit was for happy hour. They had great specials on beer, margaritas, and sangria. Sandwiches were only $5 and they also and had lobster tacos on the happy hour menu. We've had the same waitress on all but one occassion and have had supberb service each time. Also love the lighting in the restaurant area- feels like your watching the sunset on a beach. Of course the aquarium is a nice bit of ambience too.

A reservation ensured a great booth and a warm greeting. Fantastic menu - great to have a website so we could drool in advance. Conch fritters were amazing, salad selection was interesting and worth sampling. Snapper was entirely fresh & cooked perfectly. We also had the 5 course menu - this month showcases Jamaica, the pepperpot soup lacked spice but the other courses were daring and tasty. The presentation & portions are top notch and the staff were wonderful. The setting is great with plenty to take in. Really more of an event than a dinner. Excellent value. Simply perfect.

Also if you go to the Science Museum's Coral Reef Omni Movie this month you receive comp dessert and ...they donate some of the cost of your dinner to coral restoration!

Hope i can still get a table when it's more famous and the staff stay as welcoming.

Bringing two out of towners as part of our party of 5 and never having visited myself, I was leary after reading the previous reviews. We were pleasantly surprised! For starters the coconut shrimp were huge - the peeky toe crab cakes deliscious. Toss in a couple of Mojitos for mojito virgins - they loved the mix of flavors. The field green salads were fresh, light and quite a suprise compared to the boring salads commonly found in MPLS. The pork loin, taco langosta and BBQ sea bass were hits - steer clear of the fish tacos - very bland mahi mahi and uneventful salsa. I ended up stealing the sauce from the taco langosta just to add flavor. Stacy - our server was impecable, patient with many questions and very friendly. We didn't think the tab was bad at $145+tx for all of that. Fish tanks are very cool!

I've been to Tiburon 3 times, all of which i sat in the bar area for cocktails and appetizers. I have learned the following: The food is quite good. Though I've only had the tapas, I can say the preparations are very good, though not quite authentic (inspired is how they put it). I recommend the mussles, hearts of palm and conch fritters. The wine list is somewhat overpriced and on the thin side. The mojitos need more rum. The bar staff is a bit slow. The regulars are a fun and chatty bunch. The aquarium is fantastic. The way the lighting cycles made me think i was tripping, and i liked it. I'm excited to have dinner at Tiburon, if the tapas are any indication, i plan to be pleased.

Pros: Food, Feel

Cons: Slow Bar

SoBe in Minny. this place has the elegence and feel of an upscale restaurant found in South Beach( or maybe the "new" Brickell Ave) Miami (my home city). The differences are Tiburon has great service and the prices are half of what I pay at home. Food was fresh and exciting, the atmosphere to die for.

Went to Tiburon 9pm Sat. night. Parking stunk, but that was expected. We should have done Valet. The host was wonderful, and we waited just a couple minutes (as walkins) for our choice of table or booth. VERY good service, server went through the favorites with me patiently. and the restaurant decor was FABULOUS! (love the bear grass and changing light hues. The Fishtank is impressive too, of course. Food was good... great Grouper Sandwich, Yellowtail Snapper ended up overdone (I even requested it on the rare side) but black beans were BORING. We liked the coconut "scented" rice, though. "Scented" ? Everything was buzz-word "scented." Prices, fair. Service, good. We walked out happy, but not elated.
The most amazing thing all night was the lovely petite hostess prancing around, looking comfortable in her 4 inch spike heels. Ouch.

Pricey drinks/food reasonabe. Bar cozy - wall of windows - dining room large & open. Coconut crusted shrimp with guava-horseradish sauce & cumin scented coleslaw was yummy without being greasy! Guava-horseradish sauce is to die for - sweet & tangy. Peeky-toe crab cakes with pickled pepper tartar sauce were scrumptious. Ceviche platter included ahi tuna, barbequed shrimp, forbidden-rice crusted oysters, scallops & grilled mushrooms. What are marinated mushrooms doing here? Each offering had a complementary sauce/relish. Shrimp wasnt overpowered by the barbeque sauce & oysters were soooo tender! Grilled calamari spring rolls - imagine a short condom with the tip cut off. Stuffed with buckwheat noodles & veggies & herbs, including cilantro - served with peanut dipping sauce. Very fresh, tender - a good mix of flavors. Tres leche cake: vanilla cake with 3 milks & rum, topped with dulce le leche & whipped cream. Melt in your mouth good!

Brand new in downtown and worth trying! Wonderful Caribbean food and an atmosphere like nothing else around. A HUGE aquarium divides the lively bar area from the more formal dining area...even the latin jazz music is perfect! We loved the ceviche, the guava bbq snapper and the adobo pork chop. After about a 1/2 hour we didn't even feel like we were in MN anymore. A great escape!

I was impressed beyond words with this place. The food was superb (I ordered the steamed Mahi Mahi in banana leaf) and service was excellent. The ambience was romantic but trendy and I truly felt it gave a "caribbean feel." A wonderful fusion menu too! I plan dining here more often. This place is exactly what sleepy and overcast Minneapolis needs for a little "pick-me-up" with style. Try the drinks..... expensive but fun and very tasty. Don't miss the 50ft long tropical fish tank!

Compared to most other restaurants in downtown Minneapolis, Tiburon offers something special for the eyes. A great atmosphere supplemented by different, yet accessible Caribbean style menu choices. (Though it is a little tough to choose fish as one swims by in the aquarium.)

Great appetizers, good service with intelligent staff. Great decor and nice bar. Appetizers were great but food was cold and not as tasty as expected. Overall this is a good addition to our TC.

Caribbean food, in their dreams. Had the ceviche, worst one I ever tasted. Had to wait 35 minutes for a bottle of wine, and the place was empty. Server not even apologize. Rest of the food flavorless...

Fun and lively on a cold winter night. Great spot for drinks...fantastic Minneapple! Food was very good. Pleasant but inexperienced waitstaff tried hard. Worth it.

Pros: The Tank(of course)

Although the ceviche appetizer certainly looked great nestled in a bed of ice in an oversized wooden bowl, the contents were far less impressive. The tuna was tasteless and the shrimp barely recognizable. The best thing in the bowl was the garnish of salsa hidden under the oysters. The spiny lobster entree was chewy and had to be painstakingly scraped out of its shell. We waited for over twenty minutes (some people said theyd waited over thirty) for the valet to return our car. While the aquarium is certainly impressive (although the sharks weren't even in it when we were there!) the ambience doesn't compensate for the lackluster food.

I dinned at tiburon last week and was completely impressed. This was my third visit to Tiburon and the best one yet. The service, once a little slow, is now impecable, tenders and waitstaff. I have traveled the world over and the chef has the food down, yes some dishes are more mild than I like but on my last visit I asked for advice on what to get and the chef actually came out and recommended a dish (he informed me the specials are aimed at more seasoned dinners). If you have been here once and didn't like it you should give it another chance because you are missing out Mon!

I was very surprised to find such a great new restaurant! The food was very fresh and perfectly prepared. Service was also perfect. Our server was pleasantly transparent! The ambiance is right up there with any cool restaurant in Chicago or L.A.

I would suggest sharing many things.... The meun has many options, and everything was wonderful. Also the ambience feels like you are in LA or NY, NOT Minnesota!

If you have dinner plans at Tiburon, skip lunch to leave room for appetizers and dessert. Get a specialty drink also -- I'd recommend the Minneapple. You will leave happy!

A taste of the Caribbean in Minneapolis! What a great meal. The crab cakes and snapper were fantastic. Service was as exceptional as the food. The ambience was out of this world with a huge shark tank in the middle of the diningroom. The key lime pie martini was addictive, nice touch with the grahm craker rim. Already made reservations for next week.

We were a group of four and when we entered the place, we felt a little underdressed. The woman at the front convinced us to stay and had it not been for her, the experience would have been a total disaster. Our server greeted us after five minutes, our drink order took no less than twenty minutes, our appetizers were out before our cocktails, she never checked back. Thank god the server assistant came back and forth with water from time to time. Our entire dining experience took about three hours. We really wanted a bottle of wine with dinner, but were afraid to. She assured us that the wine would take a matter of seconds and that was the one thing she did right. Our food was very tasty, the wine was great, but the service couldn't have sucked any more.

We found the menu too diverse to succeed long-term, so expect to see menu changes in time. The concept of fusion cuisine is always a bit murky, so it's hard to know if we were treated or tricked. The mojitos accompany the seafood well, and the conch fritters took us back to the island of St. John's. The setting is beautiful and friendly.

This restaurant is really going to make it's mark in the Mpls. restaurant scene. The service couldn't have been better, the food from appetizer to desert was awesome. The shark tank is beautiful and the lighting sublime. It's a real cool dining experience. I highly recommend this new and trendy spot!!

What a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy a top quality meal in. The Carribean influence, music and don't forget the shark tank make this experience that is not soon forgotten. I have been telling all of my friends and co-workers that this is the place to go to for the total Carribean experience.
