We walked into this restaurant and the guy behind the counter (who later said he was the owner) was such a jerk! He asked if we had a reservation. We said we didn't. He looked pretty upset, so we thought the place must be pretty busy.

Like many others before me, the heritage and reputation of being in business for 60 years (and the Neely's) got me to give them a try, but the quality wasn't enough to make me want to return. The ribs had absolutely no smoke flavor -

I was totally looking forward to this place based off some positive reviews from the locals and also to the fact that the Neely's from the Food Network came to this joint but oh man what a disappointment.

THIS PLACE IS FOR PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND REAL BARBEQUE. THEIR FOOD IS COOKED IN A WOOD BURNING BRICK PIT . THE FOOD HAS A PERFECT SMOKE RING ON IT, ONLY A NEOPHYTE WOULD ASSUME MEAT TO FALL OFF THE BONE. THE HOMEMADE ONION RINGS ARE THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN. GREAT ATMOSPHERE AND FREINLY SERVICE ROUND OFF A MEMERABLE TIME.

Pros: worst BBQ ever

I ordered a full slab of their spare ribs for a takeout order. The woman at the counter asked if I had ordered the 12 bone slab and I said that I had. When I got home little did I know that was exactly what I got. 12 bones surrounded by a few bits of dried up meat! For 30 dollars a slab I think it is reasonable to expect more. Worst ever. Wouldn't waste my money on these things again.

I love good bbq. The Nicollet Market BBQ is TERRIBLE!!. The funny thing .. I went to the Wayzata Market BBQ and loved it. Best brisket sandwich I've ever eatin. I tried the same sammy at the Nicollet Marktet BBQ.. It tasted like something died on my plate. The meat had NO smokey flavor, and the brisket sandwich was accompanied with sloppy over-cooked onions, Sorry to say this but even the bbq sauce had no kick, Tasted like ketchup.

I started out ordering babyback ribs but had to send those things back. The meat was tough, no presence of a rub, and the smokey taste was missing .Tasted like they were cooked in an oven, not a pit. If Markets philosophy is that they want you to taste the meat, I'd say... cook me some meat that's worth tasting!!! I'm not surprised the place was half empty on a friday night!!!

I ain't going back!!!

Cons: Oh Boy!!

Our family went Christmas Eve. Empty. It seemed as though our being there was a great inconvenience to our server. She was rude and inattentive. Our food was cold. Our bill was over $100 for 4. I e-mailed the next day to state our dissatisfaction... no response. Followed-up a week later with another e-mail... no response. I will never go to Market Barbecue again, and would not recommend it to anybody. Absolutely NO customer service.

Pros: None

Cons: Food cold, poor service, no response to complaint, over-priced

Well overpriced average food. Baby back ribs should fall off the bone. We had to use a steak knife to pry and saw them apart. A steak knife! High ratings must have come from people that have not been to a Texas Roadhouse or any restaurant with good ribs. We were quite disappointed with the whole meal. Everything else, but maybe the beans was disappointing for what we paid. We will not return. I got a membership to this site just to be able to warn others not to waste their money here with all the options in the area.

Pros: Great food fun music

Cons: had a long drive

I had the spareribs. They were dry and tough, and not well-flavored.

The whole point of indirect cooking methods such as smoking is to tenderize tough cuts of meat. The whole art of doing this is accomplishing the tenderization without drying out the meat. Market failed in both regards on the pork ribs, which is unacceptable.

The chicken was not bad, but the spare ribs were a huge disappointment.

The sides were good, I really enjoyed the slaw. Service was nice and I really dug the atmosphere. Perhaps I was there when the pit boss was having a day, but I really had high expectations hearing about how great the place was. If you want a real Southern BBQ experience, there are much better options in the area (Baker's, Qfanatic, Scot Jamama's, and Ted Cook's come to mind).

Through my experience the Market Bar-B-Que has always been the best place in Minneapolis to get great BBQ. I've gone there as long as I can remember and I've always had a great experience. I'm a big fan of the ribs and homemade bbq sauce and I like that they a pit smoked like its done in the south. I've also had their chicken which I was very impressed with how moist and tender it is. I feel like the market has a wonderful charm about it that I don't find at big chain restaurants and I think that it?s their dedication to great BBQ and friendly service that keeps me coming back!

If you're staying in downtown Minneapolis, forget room service - this is the place to go! Right on Nicollet Avenue (we call it Nicollet Mall.) Great food!!!

I've heard great things about Market BBQ today and a few friends and I decided to grab take out from 3 bbq places within the twin cities to compare. Market BBQ by far had the worst ribs. We got a full slab of spare ribs and they were not tender and seemed like they were cooked quickly at a higher temperature. Market told us the smoked chicken wings were very popular so we tried an order of those as well. They were okay, nothing special. The best thing was the cole slaw and that does not bode well for a bbq place. My expectations were not met and Market will not be getting repeat business from me.

I never knew this place even existed, but Im glad I found it! The food is great and Sunday night Kareoke is a blast! The crowd is ecclectic, the singing is awful, but its a great time! Occassionally there is a good singer or two! The bartenders are friendly, the place is small, but fun. The food is your typical barbeque joint, deep fried, artery clogging goodness. Yum!

Market has, hands down, the best barbeque in town. If you want the wet, sloppy, fall apart ribs, go to your church basement cafeteria. If you want real, meaty, smokey spareribs-- this is the place. I have tried the chicken and it's also delicious, and the sauces are killer. They have great cole slaw too, and a good selections of beers on tap. The classic interior is spectacular. Their prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for. It might not be the best place for a first date, 'cause to really enjoy it you have to dig in with your bare hands!

Decor was great. Juke boxes at each table only eat your quarters once in a while (I was 8 for 10 in getting mine to work). Service is good. Fries were great. Unfortunately, the main draw, BBQ, did not satisfy. I ordered the roast beef. It was flooded with their BBQ sauce which was only ok. I would have liked to gave tried their other sauces, that come in bottles on the table, but the meat was already doused with the other stuff. It seemed like the roast beef was cooked separatly, and tasted pretty dried out, and then the not very warm BBQ sauce was dumped on top right before bringing it out to me.

I wasn't blown away, but I'll go back. I really enjoyed the bbq chicken salad sandwhich, but I put a lot of extra sauce on it. My sister liked her bbq pork.

I love bbq sauce so this wasn't quite my style. I am not a big fan of dry rub bbq like this. I went to Kansas City, MO soon after eating here. They are known for their ribs and dry rub is how they do it. Market BBQ stands up to where we ate there.

I liked the atmosphere, old fashion family dinning.

I have been a customer for more than 30 years. I have been a fan of BBQ ribs all of my lig\fe. That is BBQ, not boiled. Slow cooked, real smoke, dry rub. If these words mean anything to you, you will love Market Barbeque's ribs (chicken and other meats too). I have tasted ribs from 100's of restaurants acrossed the US, and Market BBQ, along with Rendevous in Memphis, has the best ribs anywhere. The restaurant itself is like a step back in time to the 1940's. Always clean and personable. Don't believe the negative stories, this place is GREAT! If you like REAL BBQ, that is!

I've been a customer of MBBQ since they opened in Mtka. The ribs & Chicken are great. After reading some of the reviews that spoke highly of Famous Daves I had to write. I can't understand why anyone would pay the price to receive a rack of ribs soaked in sauce, just the fact that your offered a roll of bounty at the table suggests they're covering up the actual flavor of the food or lack there of.

I live two blocks away and used to dine in or order takeout every week, until I realized just how bad the food was. It's easy to get suckered into the neighborhood feel of the place, which Market has in spades, but it _is_ a pricey joint, and the food just doesn't cut it. The meat, ordered dry or saucy, is never tender (beef) or properly chewy (pork). The fries, even when dining in, are warm and soggy. The toast is just that: thin slices of cheap white toast with butter. The waitstaff does a great job, but the management, bartenders, and cashiers always leave me wanting to apologize for wasting their time.

Have been going here for over 12 years. The quality of food has not changed and the service staff is respectful and 'normal'. The ribs are genuine and the smoke flavor is real (as opporsed to others that may use enhancing agents). The drawbacks: Ventalation is poor (even in the non-smoking section); the parking is weird (what happened to the back lot?); need to improve the music selections on juke box.

Seriously, do any of the employees, from cooks to waiters, care? The food is dry and bland for the prices. Been twice and had the order screwed up each time. When we complained to the manager he was totally unconcerned about our problems and failed to make it right. Maybe after all the years this place has been around it's time to put it out its misery.

I saw this barbecue on the list and wanted to try it. I was pretty disappointed with the quality and taste. The sauces were too sweet and the chicken was dry and had no flavor aside from the skin. It was also very fatty. My partner had the chicken and ribs combo. He agreed that it was just ok. We probably won't be back, we like Famous Daves.
