Loved this place when it used to Loring Cafe, so very happy to see the vibe has remained the same! The best part is the patio during the summer, great view and perfect atmosphere!

I came here a couple of times, nice dishes and great wine selection. Parking is easy and the staff is very polite with great smiles all over.
A nice place for a date or just to hangout with friends.

I've been a foodie in the Twin Cities for years now, and I opted to give Cafe Lurcat another try (I've visited several times over the years). I honestly don't get it, this restaurant (by the D'Amico company) tries to be an upscale restaurant, but it isn't particularly good at anything.

The food is above average for a restaurant of this type (as an experienced local, there are much better in Minneapolis, but you can look them up).

The service was lackluster. I've been to various Michelin starred restaurants elsewhere, and you can tell when you have a server that (1) knows the menu well, (2) cares about your experience, and (3) orchestrates the meal well. Our server only showed competence in (1), the other two categories were markedly inferior. Now, perhaps it wouldn't be fair to compare to the best restaurants in the world, but I've seen servers at various restaurants in the Twin Cities that also score well in all three categories. The best word for our server (and her associated help) was plastic: The attitude towards our well-dressed group of professionals was "Would you just order now?" and there was very, very little follow up (and she kept forgetting things). Just unacceptable for a restaurant at this level.

The real kicker is their valet, who crashed my car. Yes, you're reading right --that's thousands in damage. I then got hassled by the parking manager who tried to con me into using a different estimate than my own after I did what he asked and got me one. Thank god I know my rights. Normally I wouldn't fault the restaurant too much for this ruining experience, but that changed when the restaurant called me a week later assuming things had been resolved --which it hadn't yet. That's what we call poor homework and a restaurant that is trying to connect the dots without any genuine thought.

With the closure of D'Amico Cucina and the so-so brunch they have at their hotel restaurant (D'Amico Kitchen), I thought Cafe Lurcat would the D'Amico companies' jewel. I was wrong. Go elsewhere --there are plenty of good options if you look around on this site or elsewhere.

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Service doesn't match caliber

Decided I could only afford a light dinner after I viewed the menu. Decor is stylish and the food presentation is very creative. But I found the atmosphere and the whole experience too "self conscious", as if they were trying to say "look at us, we are so cool".

Overpriced, shmoozy, nothing special. Service was mediocre, food choices Very limited and nothing for vegetarians. I had an issue with my meal and the manager came over, after schmoozing some more-important-then us kind of people, and I'm pretty sure she gave me attitude. Ouch that hurt. I will never return nor will any of my friends, family, or anyone I can possibly stop from making this awful mistake. Ouch that hurt my wallet, stomach and possibly this restra

My husband and I recently ate at Cafe Lurcat to celebrate an anniversary. It was a fabulous dining experience. The restaurant has an upscale, elegant, even romantic, atmosphere. Dining at Cafe Lurcat was a surprise for me, so I didn't have any expectations as we entered. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The wait staff was outstanding and we both loved the food. It is expensive--but I had such a great night that I would love to eat there again for a special occasion.

Nice ambiance, fantastic wine selection, and wonderful food- I would definitely recommend cafe Lurcat and will absolutely go again for these reasons. However, the service was mediocre- the waitress that served us was rather disheveled and actually brought my fiance and I another couple?s appetizer!

Uh-uh..I won't be going back!
$28 for 6 prawns, and one of them is mealy, mushy, inedibly? Not that that isn't bound to happen with shrimp...it's just that when I told the waiter (who was EXCELLENT!) and he told the chef -- I was told that mushy, mealy, inedible shrimp happens when shrimp is steamed/sauteed in the manner it was (though somehow the others ecaped the one's fate).

Now, I was just telling the chef cuz I thought perhaps he/she'd want to take a look-smell at the product being used. Nary a "sorry", nor a "can we get you something else?" was forthcoming. And actually, it was my 5th of 6 prawns and I wasn't looking for free stuff or bowwing/scraping ... yet to be told that a nasty, slimy-to-the-touch shrimp was part of the design of the dish was disconcerting and condescending.

If you're missing the old Loring Cafe and think that Lurcat might be a reasonable substitute, you're wrong. While the few foods I've tried here have been quite good (tiny hamburgers; addictive fried puffy cheese ball things), it's quite expensive and the ambiance is stuffy and uncomfortable.

I couldn't believe the previous review. I have been to Cafe and Bar Lurcat many times. I can't help but come back to this place. Of all things this place has loads of character. Exposed brick walls, small coves with candelight, beautiful archways w/amazing detail, gorgeous light fixtures, large expansive windows, sheek and contemporary styling.. I have taken a lot of friends here and every time they LOVE the atmosphere. Not only is the place beautiful to look at while you dine from your table -- but the food is super tasty as well. I have had probably about 1/2 of the things on the menu and I have never been disappointed. I very highly recommend this place for the atmosphere, the food and the hip crowd.

I took my dad to this restaurant in May to celebrate his retirement. The front entrace to this place is somewhat misleading; the sign hangs above a door that goes nowhere. Once you find the "real" door, the hostess stand is actually in the bar, and they lead you through a dimly lit hallway (where am I being taken??) before you enter the dining room. The dining room seemed to be crammed with VERY close, small tables that we weaved between to be seated. Fortunately we were seated against the windows facing the park. I would have much disliked being surrounded by people. But once we sat down, the rest of the night was a pleasure. Keep in mind that the menu is ala carte - side dishes are ordered separately. I enjoyed foie gras - served with a toasted baguette and poached apples - delicious!! My entree was a typical steak and mashed potatoes and my dad had roasted sea bass. We both loved the food. The service was great too - low-key yet attentive, just as it should be. The server was well-versed in the menu and thorough with the service. And there was great live music in the lounge! I would love to go back!

This was the second time I ate at Cafe Lurcat. The first time, I was not impressed by anything but the bill (and not in a positive way). Having survived a couple of Minnesota winters since that first experience, I decided to give Cafe Lurcat a second chance hoping that maybe the restaurant had grown into intself by now. It has not.

The funny thing is that there is very much to like about the restaurant. It is a very well designed space with a great view of Loring Park. The service is impeccable. More importantly, the menu is friendly yet interesting. And, for the most part, everything is cooked to near perfection.

The problem: they over-salt every dish. Even one of the desserts has salt on it. Weird. It was the same complaint I had my first visit, and it's the same complaint I have heard from several other visitors. Any one dish, taken by itself, is salty. Not so salty that I won't eat it, but salty. If the rest of the dishes/sides were say sweet/sour/spicy, etc., maybe it would balance out. But they are ALL salty. Taken together, I felt like I needed my own carafe of water just to keep from shriveling.

Is this a ploy to get people to order more drinks? Perhaps the chef has low BP. In any event, it ruins the entire meal, the entire experience. The restaurant was still busy enough. So, apparently they can keep serving their food this salty and they will still be successful. But if they really cared to improve the place, they need to get a handle on this. Next time I'll be sticking to the bar.

I'd never heard of Cafe Lurcat until a friend wanted to celebrate her birthday there. We reserved a private back room for our group (no charge), which has it's own bathroom and balcony over looking the restaurant. Our servers were ok, a tad slow with our drinks. There's a nice little variety of food, and everyone liked their appetizers, sides, and meals. After dinner it was fun to hang out in our room, or over by the bar by the live music. The ambiance is unique with the nice big windows, dim lighting, and even big cushy couches by the bar area. We had a great time, and I would recommend it for dinner, drinks and entertainment.

From start to finish, Cafe and Bar Lurcat shined! The courteous valets, the flawless service, and the exquisite cuisine! You have to try the miso Seabass, it should be outlawed, I was addicted after the first bite! I couldn't have asked for a more memorable evening, started in the bar, had dinner in the restaurant and finished back at the bar with live jazz music serenading us. It's not cheap, but worth every penny. Can't wait to go back!

Lurcat didn't impress me at all. It lacks any kind of character (at least the restaurant part of it), doesn't have distinctive menu or great service - basically the restaurant has nothing one would expect of a place this expensive. From the moment we ordered, I couldn't wait to leave. Tables are too close together so it's really difficult to walk between them without hitting people. I waited over 5 minutes for my dirty plate to be taken away, though I could hear our waiter talking to his trainee (two feet away from our table) about how not busy it is and how they're not going to make any money that night. NOT coming back.

PROS: location
CONS: service is disappointing

Ala carte? No kidding. The food was great but be prepared to pay about $30 + for an entree if you would like something other than just the meat or fish. I thought that this trend was over but guess not. The price should be $$$ on the resturant info. I would say go but for a special occasion, not just for your average night out, if you are sitting in the main dinning room. The wine list is extensive and surprising, but you better know what you want the server we had was not about to make a recomendation.

Went with girlfreind Friday night around 6:00. Spent a little time in the bar which has great views and has big couches and nice intimate places to sit. Great decor through out the entire place. Old brick with high ceilings. When we sat in dinning room, our waiter asked us right away if we had a show to attend, which we did, so it was nice to be asked up front. That was just the begining of the great service we would receive through out the dinner. Food was excellent. The miso sea bass was super. We will definately be back

I don't drink so I can't rate the bar. The miso added to the see bass was very tasty. I didn't care for the atmosphere as much. It is trendy which many people like. I thought the service was very good. Overall I think it was a nice place for a first date but nothing that I would run back to try again.

Went with a group of 4 so it was nice to taste various dishes. The lamb and pot roast was wonderful. I would not recommend the tuna. The wait staff who filled water glasses, removed excess dishes were very attentive. When our waitress was there, she was attentive. When we asked what dish would be recommended or what the signature dish was, she replied "this is popular." Watch the bill, 18% gratuity was added and we had 3 bottles of wine and 4 was charged.

We ate at Cafe Lurcat on a Wednesday night and have to say that the service we recieved was top notch. Attention to detail played a huge role in my rating of 9. Our server always kept an eye on us and there never was a time in which I had to ask for something.
The food was phenominal. We had the Sea Bass and Salmon and I can't think of anything that was wrong with either.

All in all, I would definately dine here again. We were very impressed.

The athmosphere is great, very trendy and classy. However, the food is lacking in excellence. The prices are too high for tiny hamburgers, onion rings, appetizer foods. The drinks are a bit high priced too, but if you want a fun place to just "chill" for a night...this is a great place.

Classy - yes, clean - yes, tasty - yes, personality - unfortunately no!

Replacing the warm "bohemian" feel of the former Loring Cafe' with the all-white "W" Hotel's Style sterile environment of Lurcat was a big mistake. Our city does not need another cold, sterile, boring, unremarkable restuarant (there are about 30 already). I live only a 5 minute walk away, I liked the food, but I can't see why I would show this place to a friend, or return at all.

The chairs need to go! I am not nearly overweight, and I barely squeezed into my white-slipcovered seating device.

The food is far better than the Loring Cafe', but the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. They would have been much better off had they simply changed the sign and left the decor as it was.

The Loring is dead - long live the Lurcat? Um. No. While the new decor is indeed brighter and there's a big new bar (wonder of wonders, you can actually get a drink in less than 30 minutes!) the Lurcat is less funky and MUCH less distinctive than its predecessor. The net result: it's now much too much like every other trendy hot new flavor-of-this-month bistro. Drink prices ($10.50 for a Macallan? $6.50 for a J&B? $4.25 for a... ROLLING ROCK?!?) are outrageous, so bring your ATM card or some Krugerrands.

Pros: Expansive new bar, Service, Same great views

Cons: Drink prices, Placebo decor, "Wanna-be" clientele

I have now been here twice. The restaurant and bar are wonderfully decorated and a definate improvement over the past loring caffe. Service was great with very attentive staff. However, the food was mediocre at best, in fact it was just plain bad. the first time we went with 4 people and 2 of us had to send the food back, the second time was for a birthday party of 12, out of which only 3-4 of the guests liked the food. On a redeming note, the bar has the best fresh made mini-dounuts around.

Pros: mini-doughnuts, service is good, bar is a great place

Cons: dining food sucks, small portions, needs new menue

The food was amazing. The service was okay. The crowd was horrific. It seems as though a ton of people from the suburbs read about a "hip New York-style restaurant" in the Variety section of the Strib. Then they piled into their SUVs and headed downtown to ruin it.

Literally, The Damico's have ruined a corner of Minneapolis. They have replaced the fun eclectic crowd with SNOBS. Sure the place is hopping...you can get pick-pocketed, get in a bar brawl..and wait for two hours for sub par food.....and when cold...the chef turns his nose to the crowd before him.....like it was your fault....NO Kiddin...But if your seen who cares! So go....disappoint yourself!!!! Oh, and don't be fat! You may not get in!!!! the chairs that is!

Recently checked out the restaurant with a couple of girlfriends and we came out disappointed. If you are looking for a great place to see and be seen Cafe Lurcat may be just the ticket. If you are looking for a place to have a great meal, there are other places you need to check out. Granted the restaurant is newer, but the menu selections needs to improve (if your not a seafood or ceviche type of person, you are not going to have a big selection for appetizers). All of our meals were pretty ordinary. The side dishes are ala carte and not very big. The atmosphere is great, service good and the interior beautiful but they need to start paying as much attention to the menu as they do to the aesthetics. Worth having a cocktail at, but not a place we would ever eat at again.

2.5 hour dinner for 4 people = way too long. Bad wine x 2 needed to be returned. They Misplaced 1 of 3 Jackets = 10 minute delay at departure. Champaign that was given as gift from outside party was billed to us. Called ahead of time to insure that an in-house bday dessert with a candle would appear during dessert = No dessert ever arrived. After talking to management following poor experience nothing was done. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD LORING RESTAURANT.....

Cons: Horrible Service, Bad Management, Long Ass Meal

The food was great - I had the Ahi and was very pleased. The vegetable sides are also spectacular. Our service was not so great. We had an 8:00 show at the Orpheum. We told this to our server when we arrived at 6:00. We were running from the restaurant after throwing our money on the table at 7:50. We would ask for a couple of minutes to decide on the menu and the server would not return for 20 minutes. It spoiled what could have been at great experience.

Very cool! The bar was great, the cafe was great, the staff was great, the food was great. What more can I say. GREAT!

The server recommended the apple, cheese and chive salad --- for good reason, it was GREAT.

FINALLY, a totally first class restaurant on par with anything in New York. Food that's on par with the best of the best (quite the place to see local celebs I might add). A wine list thats pages long. Servers that are FRIENDLY (sorry fans of the loring). And the best surprise was going to the bar and a live band that creats a romantic mood (but still lively).

Very nice setting, attentive staff, interesting menu selections -- however, none of the dishes we ordered were hot when served. Also, the green beans were overcooked.

We'd probably give it another try though. Saturday is a busy night.

Cafe Lurcat is a nice change to the bar scene in Minneapolis. The decor is absolutely fantastic...classy yet comfortable. The wine selection is varied along with the option of getting a 2 oz. sample serving, which I think is a great idea. The tuna appetizer is excellent!! I would highly recommend it. If you would like to go somewhere different that's more on the upscale side, I would suggest going here with some friends.

If you're looking to impress that special girl, then Cafe Lurcat is the place to go! Cafe Lurcat has an awesome wine selection that caters perfectly to the female taste- lots of whites, pink zinfandels and sparkling wines. The atmosphere is flashy, styling and romantic. Your date is sure to know that you care about who you see and where you are seen, so dress to impress the crowd! Enjoy the gentle sounds of light rock and knock-back the dinner with a truly original slice of chocolate cake. Was that a seven dollar hostess cupcake?

When my date came to pick me up, he told me he was taking me someplace new and special. Naturally, I assumed he was talking about the new Chili's that just opened off of the Anoka exit of 35W. This place was a great surprise! When somebody came out to park my date's truck for him I was really impressed. What a night--he even ordered the third least expensive wine on the wine list (which had lots of words I couldn't pronounce). After dinner, we went to the bar to dance, but they were playing music I never heard of (would a little Nelly be that hard?) All in all, a perfect romantic evening!

I took a birthday princess here for dinner recently and could not have been more delighted. Examples of why Lurcat presented the perfect evening: Valets who asked us to enjoy our evening and asked us about our meals afterwards. The warmth and odors coming from the kitchen reminded me of Thanksgiving as did the menu (ala cart). The pot roast was better than my mom's (don't tell her i said that) and the black cod with miso was complex yet delicate. EXTENSIVE wine list with some good deals on half bottles and glasses. Service: Unbelievably attentive. They did not have hot chocolate for the birthday girl, so they made it. Dessert: I recommend the chocolate cake. DELISH!

Food and wine was very good. Service was good when waiter was there but could not be found on more than one occasion when needed.

We'll be back... but not right away

A great place to eat, drink, lounge around, or dance. I loved the fact that I can now take my date out on a romantic dinner, then walk right over to the bar for a great night of dancing to the latest, hotest selection of music. By the way, my date absolutely loved the selection of wine that was available by the glass!

I was impressed by the service, and the food was very good. The menu was a little limited for my meat-and-potatoes loving date, but he was able to find something he enjoyed immensely. I found the menu to be quite delectible. I definitely recommend it, especially for a romantic dinner. The atmosphere was wonderful. And, a side note, the prices were pretty good too. (the chocolate cake for dessert is to die for!)
