no staff accountability or follow through with students - staff just does not care they are there to collect a check and that is it.

Pros: location

Cons: unmotivated staffing

To a passerby Armstrong may be construed as a deteriorating place that can't make up its mind as to whether it should be in the suburbs or the city, however, once the time has been taken to examine what this school has to offer it would be hard to recommend any other high school.

Some other schools may have more gadgets, but what Armstrong lacks in "power funding" it makes up for with integrity and diverse experiences that are worth far more than a 'fancier way to learn science' ever could to a maturing young person. It is not too say the school is poor, but most importantly, the teachers care about their job. It may be hard to point out a specific reason for this, especially when it seems that teachers around the country seem to care less and less, but these teachers never give up. The hard work and attitude is exemplified from the principal all the way down to the janitors.

If this is not enough, you need to only take in one more point. The diversity in this school is better and more well rounded than perhaps any other school could hope to recreate with such incredible results. To be honest, the majority if white, but it is not just standard 'white.' You get Caucasian families from the inner city, the upper class, and every religion and status in between. That is by no means to say that is all you get though. Every category of race, ethnicity and religion is fully represented in this school, and what is even more impressive is that due to its caring environment all groups feel welcome. This applies to race as well as social groups. It is by far the least 'click' oriented population of students I have ever been a part of. Everyone is welcome however they come.

I hope this is enough information to help make your choice at least a little bit easier. The most important thing to take into account when choosing a school is how your child will grow from that experience, and Armstrong makes sure to take that factor into account as the utmost importance.

Pros: An experience to help a young person grow.

Cons: Perhaps too 'forgotten' in terms of District 280 funding.
