I hate that parasol took away the (Iconic Bistro) and put a fake Italian place in with rotten service!

I went there and it wasn't busy. There were 5 people at the bar mind you. I sat at the bar and was ignored for 20 minutes before walking out. The bartender would look at me and walk away even though I had my id and wallet on the bar. He was busy trying to mack on some uptown wannabe. I was even wearing a suit so I should have fit in with the stuckup atmosphere. Maybe if I had breast implants I could have had a newcastle. Problem is, I'm a guy. Maybe I shouldn't have worn my invisibility cloak that day. My bad. Get over yourselves. Great place to watch humans made of plastic be cool.

We had never dined at Figlio before and were genuinely impressed. The host(s) were extremely friendly. We were even 20 minutes late due to traffic, but they still got us right to a table. Our waitress, Brittany, was very helpful in explaining the menu, etc. She checked back frequently to see if we needed anything. We even asked to be moved to another table, and she was very accommodating. Had the fried homemade ravioli as an appetizer, which was delicious! For an appetizer, I would say the portion was small. There were 5 ravioli, which was perfect for 2 people, but may not have been enough for a larger group. I ordered the Figlio Chicken Club, which had very good flavor and very filling. The "fries" that come with it were excellent. The Tagliatelle was also a great choice! Overall, a wonderful Valentine's Day dining experience! Thanks, Figlio, and keep up the good work!

Fun restaurant. the calamari is great and the service is terrific a little on the expensive side but for the service, food, and atmosphere it's actually cheaper than you would expect

A large group of us went to dinner. We went early for happy hour however there was no standing room and this was at 6:00 on a Sunday evening. However, the happy hour specials are really good and the caesar salad there was the best caesar salad I have ever eaten (and I eat caesar salads at almost every restaurant I go to). It had a little kick to it, no overpowering anchovy flavor, I would go back for just this salad it was so delicious. The meatballs were also really tasty, had a zest, you could eat just the happy hour menu for dinner and feel like you've robbed them. It's delicious food for a very reasonable price.

$2 beers and house wines and select appetizers make the Happy Hour at Figlio's unbeatable. The bar can get packed right at 4 pm when Happy Hour starts during the week, so be prepared to stand against the wall if there are no open stools/tables. Try the mini-burgers with fries or mini-pizzas if you want an appetizer that's filling and yet cheaply priced at $2. You also gotta appreciate their 12-7 pm Happy Hours on both Saturday and Sunday making Figlio's a perfect place to stop in after shopping in Uptown.
I agree with other reviewers that the service can be a bit slow, but with a group of friends and the willingness to sit chat and people-watch while you wait for a beer, it's definitely worth it.

All right, I've been a fan of Figlio for years. The food is consistently wonderful, but the service is not. We recently dined here later in the evening. If our server had put as much thought into doing her job as she did her halloween costume, we would have been pleased. I also would have enjoyed my pasta more if I had had a drink. She eventually wandered over to our table and blankly asked "how are you doing on drinks?" We hadn't even received them yet (or ice water). We were never offered dessert, or a take away box. And we waited for our check for over 30 minutes.

Also, the music was way too loud, we couldn't hear each other from across the table. If it was decent music, that would be one thing; I don' t know too many folks who would choose to hear the Counting Crows at top volume these days.

It's going to be awhile before we go back, which is too bad. Bad service shouldn't be so hard to come by when the food is so great.

We walked in at alittle after midnight.
The place was virtually empty.
The service was good the waiter helped to pick out the exact taste in wine I was looking for.
We had an Ahi Tuna starter which was little bland since I'm used to Sushi bars.
The pasta dish I had was really good, but my friends mushroom ravioli left something to be desired.
Over all nice atmosphere good food but a little pricey.

In the heart of Uptown this place is great for people watching - sit on the sidewalk in the summer. They also have great seasonal menu items like pumpkin ravioli and butternut squash bisque. Great happy hour specials too!

Best happy hour deals in Uptown, only rivaled to Chino Latino's :) A very extensive dinner menu, lots of unique dishes. There's outdoor seating during warmer seasons. If you don't want to spend a lot of $$$ on dinner, order off the happy hour menu in the bar (huge portions!) It's usually a packed crowd during happy hour, but the staff is so friendly & prompt, you would never know they are busy. The dinner menu has lots of variety... & the food is always exceptional.

I wrote a review of Figlio back in 2002. It was ruthlessly true on all accounts- but NOW- in 2006 I'm here to write a new review, one that drips so heavily with honey that you should well take note. FIGLIO IS BACK! It freakin' ROX!. I'm guessing that the former problems that I had with Figlio had every thing to do with bad management choices. With a new man in charge- Rex- Figlio is it's old, lovable, savvy diner respecting, self again. I don't know Rex's last name but I do know that at one point he was the head chef- and a damn good one. This man loves good food and the menu, that I gave a second chance too, CLEARLY revealed to me Rex's passion for food. BRAVO! I asked the waitstaff about the man and learned that Rex is also a great fisherman. I felt that the menu ALSO reflected this with it's WONDEROUS treatments of Salmon and white, flaky, kick *ss fish. YUM! I LOVE fish and I LOVE the way Figlio cooks it. The Salmon small plate is a must have with me whenever I'm Uptown now.

I can't tell you how happy I am that this trend setting restaurant has returned to it's former glory - Heh- ok maybe 80's neon isn't glorious- but the food really has to keep a boat afloat, not just the location. I think with Rex at the helm there are gonna be some fab food voyages ahead for a lot of people. INCLUDING ME!!!! YEA!!!! I don't care now if I'm sitting at the first table on the sidewalk looking squarely at my Uptown nemesis "Gap" clothing. (GRRRRRRR- SO un-Uptown.) I gotta tell ya the tasty, well priced, eatables crossing my palate were a blissful buffer zone between ME and the mediocrity and conformity of an oft cruel and/or boring world. Sorry for the drama ;) I sh*t you not. I love Figlio again. So get your *ss there!!
For real because Rex obviously respects food- and the savvy of YOU- an experienced diner.
YEA!
I love when quality wins.

I love this place!!! During happy hour its way too busy, but at their prices its worth it- $2 menu. I love their $2 mini burgers and $2 top shelf beers. Go- but go early if you want to sit. They have a great dining room and menu if you dont want to deal with the crowded bar (but no happy hour prices).
The food in the main dining room is so delicious! This is one of my favorite uptown happy hour hangouts.

We ventured out to find something new and non-chainish for dinner last night, and were more than pleasantly surprised by the experience. Everything we tried was outstanding and the server was super patient with my indecisiveness, suggesting a couple of different options and helping me figure out exactly what would be the perfect entree for the evening.

We will definitely be back!

Figlio's used to be one of my favorite places to dine at. The food has changed from good to below average. I've given the restaurant 3 last chances, thinking maybe it was an off night. I'm sorry to say it seems to be the norm. The seafood has been fishy tasting and smelling. The chicken has a grey color to it with a bad aftertaste. At $50.00 for a light dinner, I'm definitely not spending my hard earned money there any more.

Were married & over 30. You can keep hip-trendy w/ indifferent service, thank you.

Figilos is our favorite restaurant. We go there roughly once a month. The saliciccia pizza and the garlic pasta are always popular. Prices are fine -- theres always a few entrees at the $10 point, including the huge bacon-cheese burger with rosemary fries (a fave!) with prices up to the mid-$20s or so.

Short wait times, generally we head there anytime were looking at the dinner rush everywhere else.

Menu isn't real deep (15-20 items?), but they do rotate 3-4 items every day; we've always found new items each time, and theyve generally been very good.

The service has been fine-to-good, the complementary bread w/ hummus always evaporates within a matter of minutes, and weve always found something delicious to inhale for dessert esp. the tortufallos or the crostada w/ cinnamon ice cream.

This restaraunt offers something different than other restaraunts. The staff there are a little pretentious and stand-offish, and the food was a little better than ordinary(fettucine alfredo). I was there on a Saturday night and there our service was pretty bad- could be because of the staff or because it was busy

Pro: Open late. The food took a long time to come - some kitchen snafu. The pizza tasted good, although it was soggy and hard to cut. The tuna burger wasn't bad. The fries that came with it were too greasy and soggy. Our first server took our order, said she was off, and that we'd have someone else the rest of the evening. The next server wasn't great either. When she brought the pizza for us to share, she didn't bring plates. Plate clearing was equally bad. I had one plate removed without my knowledge, before I was done. One other person at my table was asked if he wanted his plate cleared while he was actively involved in eating from it. Getting in and out is hard if you don't like smoke, because the entire sidewalk and entry way area is filled with people smoking.

The generous portions/moderate prices/something-for-everyone menu and the pretty-people crowd for ambiance offers something to enjoy every time. From weekend brunch to late-night munchies, to a cocktail in the big bar while people watching ... if you are in Minneapolis, Figlio's is a must. Nearby parking ramp. And, shopping in Calhoun Square around your dining/imbibing experience...

Figlio's used to be our favorite restaurant until it went down the tubes in service and food, see my negative review was removed After not returning to Figlios for a year due to poor food and mediocre service the last visit, we were pleasantly surprised to find the fare vastly improved. The bread is served with a nice spicy arrabiato sauce, with a good kick. The wait staffs were very pleasant and efficient. The two dishes we received were so hot and fresh as to almost burn the tongue. We had the portabello cannelloni and the pollo matone. The cannelloni were so flavorful that your eyes rolled back into your head with pleasure. The chicken in the other dish was so tender that you had to make sure it wasn't a fish fillet you were biting into. We now plan to make Figlios once again one of our favorite restaurants.

Theres added competition now to the $2 happy hour but its creator in Uptown is still the ruler. Two bucks is the price for either a pint, a glass of house red or white, or a small but tasty mini-appetizer. If you can manage to elbow your way to a table seat in the lower bar, and add a few friends, its sure to bring people-watching beer-buzzing fun. This has to be my favorite bar, and the several times Ive had dinner in the restaurant, the food and service has been top-notch. I highly recommend you check it out.

Love the location and the atmosphere. Had a pasta dish which was my favorite thing I have ever eaten.
I've been there 3 times this past year and love it. Interesting design/layout. Cool bar area, especially when the windows/doors/walls are open to Lake St.
Highly recommened. Park at Calhoun Square, or try to get a spot in the street

Figlio is my favorite restaurant! The food is great, the atmosphere is wonderful so it results in an all-around pleasant dining experience. Reservations are a good idea on weekends, but despite the other reviewer's experience, I've never had to wait when I had a reservation! It can get a little cramped when it's crowded, so it's not ideal if you want to be alone, but I enjoy making new friends!

Love it! Figlio has now gone to a soft menu. And its brilliant. It opens the restaurant up to great, new, inventive ideas with food. The food has always been great and it has just gotten better!! Great atmosphere, especially during the week. Great mix of the local crowd. You've gotta check out the $2 happy hour. I've always had great service.

The last two times I have gone, I requested a non smoking table. Both times, they seated us, and within 20 minutes, a pack of smoking monkeys sat down down at the next table, sucking down cancer sticks like no tomorrow. It ruined the food and the evening. Was too late to get up and move to another stink-free table.

This place is fun. It's loud, especially in the bar area...but the fun is worth it. Personally i am a big fan of backasswards happy hour on Sun-Tues. I can get a plate of potatoes and a glass of wine for 8 bucks. Dinner is always nice too. I recommend the pizzas and the carpaccio. Menu could use a little renovation and the entire place would use a good cleaning...

The food was good. The bucatini was prepared fine, as was the other seafood selected at the table. Good martinis. Average wine menu. We had a party of four & were seated at a table for five & we were very cozy. I couldn't imagine squeezing more in there. If you're looking for a nice night out with good food & people watching, then you'll enjoy your experience. If you're looking for something a bit more reserved & quiet, look elsewhere, as the place is quite busy on the weekends & VERY LOUD.

This old Uptown standby has nearly been forgotten as newer, themed restaurants have set up camp in the area but it is still good at what it sets out to do. Not a huge menu but the selections are carefully thought out and the specials are usually inspired. I have had good success with any dish containing fish/seafood. Last time I had capellini with shrimp and crawfish tails and was happy. Prices range from moderate to above average. Decent but expensive drink menu and wine list. Stays open late which is a great alternative to fast food after the bars.

Cons: cost, doesn't change

.

This restaurant has really good food. I enjoy the bread they serve before the meal.

I liked the ambience and loved the martinis. The offer a broad range of martinis for only $6 which is cheap compared to Chino's and Martini Blu. The food however was just so-so except for the eggs dish. I've had fish and pasta there and wasn't impressed. On a Friday night without a reservation at 7:30 it took 40 minutes to get seated and there was no room to sit in the bar and waitstaff was slow. On a Saturday at 8:30 there was plenty of seating - so service and seating is hit or miss. I wouldn't go back there to eat but definitely for a martini.

Figlio's used to be one of my favorite restuarants. We were there Friday evening for dinner and I could have done better at McDonalds. I order the shrimp, pesto pasta. I am sure that the shrimp were bad. I have never tasted such fishy shrimp in my whole life. I literally only ate a few bites. I know I should have complained but I really was in shock. I talked to some people at work about it and they said they had had the same experience in the last several months. So maybe there is new chef or a new food vendor but whatever it is, go back to the way you used to be. I for one know that I will not come back, and my co-workers echoed that thought. Its too bad, it used to be a great restaurant.

During my visits the food has been consistently great, nearly excellent. However, service at times was atrociously slow.

...without stopping in, for a beverage, or a meal. You'll find a very pleasant view, from "inside, looking out", (through the ceiling-to-floor glass windows) or from their sidewalk-cafe, which is located near Lake St. & Hennepin Ave. S. The casual atmosphere overrides a SUPERB menu - comprised of refreshing combinations of vegetables and meats, to please every palate - appetizers, to entrees. The staff are attentive, and pleasant. The prices are quite moderate. It's a MUST "DO".

Figlio goes on despite itself. It's mostly about location. It's just so damn handy. Over the past ten years it's menu has barely changed just the removal of every item -I've- ever enjoyed there. Is it a food cost issue or lack of daring? I don't know. As for the staff; decided less representative of "hip uptown" it used to be- then again Uptown itself isn't as "Uptown" as it used to be. I blame "Gap". If you want to people watch at Figlio- make sure to sit on the side walk- because the hip folks are outside of the joint or they're slipping into Figlio's hipper sister restaurant- Chino Latino. The one praise I will give to Figlio is that they are consistant. You always kind of know what to expect- and if they screw up- they make it right. Customer satisfaction keeps them in the game.

Pros: consistant, customer service

Cons: loud, boring menu, crowded seating

The food here is reliably good and the people watching is consistently interesting. I enjoy the portions -- feels like you are getting your money's worth, even though entrees are expensive. The main dinig room ahs surprisingly good acoustics for such an angular and chrome locale.

Dress up in your best blacks and head to figlio Restaurant and Bar. Sure it's noisy, but this place is to be seen by the "It" crowd. The food is delish.
Garlic, tomatoes and wood oven grilled pizzas. This is perfect for the handsome date who is not much in the conversation department.

Pros: Trendy People, Great Pizzas, New York attitude

Cons: Noisy, Fast paced, Busy

In Short
One side of this trendy Calhoun Square joint is a crowded bar with fluorescent signs glowing in the windows and a tragically hip crowd. The bistro side is softer and more polished, with smooth, light woods and brown…
