I was on a trip to Minneapolis and I was looking for a place to buy a book I wanted at a reasonable price and I did some looking around on google and I found this place. My parents dropped my girfriend, my sister, and me off while they went to shop elsewhere for a few minutes. The lady watching the store was on the phone when we walked in and when she was done moments later she asked if our parents were coming back cause they were driving away, I simply said yes they will be back, and she kinda rolled her eyes and turned away. I'm not exactly sure what was her deal with that, id read some reviews before I got her and some people had said the lady watching the store had been rude before. I looked around for a minute and then the lady asked if she could find anything for me, I told her the book I was looking for and she quickly brought it to me in good condition. All paperbacks are half off publisher price which is a pretty good in my opinion. The selection is pretty good, I eneded up buying some other books do to the excellent pricing. The lady seemed better after that, she helped my sister and girlfriend find books too and nicely gave input on them. I bought maybe 8-10 books for $47, which is very affordable. They also take credit for used books in good condition. I would recommend this place, though id say try to do your best not to anger the lady watching the store.

I love this store! I must have discovered it soon after it opened, because I've been using it nearly the 15 years I've lived in Woodbury. You know that a tiny independent store must be doing something right when they can survive that long just down the street from a big chain bookstore. The owner works most of the hours herself and she gets to know the reading tastes of her regular customers. She'll call me every now and then to tell me she has a big stack of things she thinks I'll like -- and most of the time she is right. It is a very nice service, like having a personal book buyer. I like the monthly book discussions, too. Don't expect the polish and the amenities of the big chains. No credit cards. Recycled shopping bags. An owner with a real personality. A large selection in a limited number of genres. Shopping here is a good value and a fun experience. It feels a little like a kind of a collaboration, too. Sure, we'll take our books in used store bags, and accept that you can only take in books you have a chance of reselling. We're on your side -- we want you to be able to keep your prices down and your shop open!

(By the way, the book covers sold here are worth a visit on their own. Whenever I'm reading in a public place, someone always asks where I got the great cover, that holds the book open and makes turning pages easy. This is the place!)

I had been wanting to stop into this store for a couple weeks, since I am always excited to explore a new bookstore...especially used since you never know what you're going to find.

I visited with 2 of my young children and my friend. At first we were greeted and asked if we needed help finding anything, in which we replied that we were just browsing. The kids played at the small kid's table with toys while I browsed from across the room, where I was able to keep an eye on them. The first few minutes in the store were pleasant.

Complaints:

1) My 16 month old son stepped away from the kid's table and made his way towards the front door. I began heading over to get him and the woman who was working yelled in a nasty tone at me from the other side of the store that I better get him before he blocks the door for other customers. I was already on my way to get him!!!. This was completely unnecessary, it was the first and only time either of my kids strayed from my sight or the kid's area.

She also made a comment about the status of his diaper (he had JUST gone #2, which I realized when I went to bring him back to the kids section). I promptly left the store to change him in the backseat of my car before I resumed browsing.

2) When my friend went to purchase his books, he first asked how much the used books were. She was EXTREMELY rude and had a condescending attitude, snapped at him that they were 1/2 off cover price and then proceeded to flip each book he chose over to point at the price label and slam each book down on the counter and say "half off that", several times.

I'm sorry lady, we didn't automatically know the rules of your pricing and had to bother you for 3 seconds to ask how much they were, since you know, there are no prices on the books and I did not notice any prominent signs explaining how items are priced.

3) She answered a phone call and proceeded to be equally rude to whomever was calling, I assume it was another business calling, and argued LOUDLY for several minutes. When she got off the phone, she commented to another customer about how she "hates people".

4) They don't take credit/debit cards. Okay, cool. It's a bit inconvenient in this day and age but no biggie, we headed over to the nearby gas station to use the ATM, leaving the books we planned to buy on the counter.

5) I had brought in 4 books to trade in. 3 of them were declined, one she already had enough of, the other two...well I'm not really sure why she couldn't take them, but she mumbled something about how they were hardcover, and I'm not sure what the reason may be since there are many hardcover books in the store. Anyway.

When we had returned from the gas station, I had my friend run in to purchase my book. He came back out after the transaction and handed me my change, and told me that she made a big stink about how he was paying for his items and my items separately, with separate $20 bills. I realized that she had still charged me a little over half price of the book, even though she kept one of my books as a trade in. I went into the store and asked about it, she was again, RUDE, and stated that she wasn't sure which book to give the discount on so she divided it up between my purchase and my friend's purchase.

OKAY. She had known that I was the one that brought in the books to trade. She knew which book I was purchasing from her store. She knew that my friend was paying for each of our purchases separately, with separate $20 bills! Please explain to me how she "didn't know" which book to apply the discount to? And by the way, the discount WAS NOT applied, not even split in half as she said, because I still paid OVER half price for my book.

Am I so broke that it's going to break the bank if a tiny discount is not applied? No, I'm not. The point is this woman flat out stole from me, a customer. And then tried to make ME feel like the jerk about the situation.

My children were 100% well behaved during our trip, they were quiet and respectful. My 3 year old son picked up all of the toys he played with. My friend and I are clean-cut and mature. There was absolutely no provocation on our part to deserve this horrible, horrible customer service. This is the WORST I have ever been treated by any business.

If my experience had been better, I might have been a regular visitor to this store. There are some neat finds in there (even though MOST of the books in the store are in the romance genre, totally not my thing). But I won't be visiting again, and I would never recommend this store to anybody.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the positive reviews were written by the owner herself.

An impressive quantity of books at first glance but a lot of duplication in titles. I have found the library to be a superior source. The pricing is better. Can you beat free and no hassle on returns?

The Book Corner is a great place to get books for half price or less if you bring in books to get trade credit. With credit, you only pay 1/4 the cover price - the other 1/4 they use your credit. They are very helpful and know an amazing amount about all books. You can give them a minimal amount of info about a book and most times they know exactly the book you were looking for. And they'll help you look around the store for whatever it is you are interested in. Willing to give suggestions, but no hard sell. And if you want new books, they discount them 25%. Kids books are only discounted 10%, but they are usually cost a lot less anyway. This is my favorite bookstore. Way better than a chain. And I love it that I can support an independent bookstore.

The Book Corner is outstanding, by far the best used book store ever. Dawn, the owner is knowledgeable and super organized. The service is outstanding, if she doesn't have what you want, she will call when the book comes in. I have saved thousands on books and recommend this store to every reader I know.
