Ratings_icons Worst Gym in the world

Nick B.

First of all, Lifetime bought out all our local gyms that had been around for years creating one big corporate chain of crap. Then they have so many members that there is never available equipment and a throng of people every time you go. They charge exorbitant rates and when you do want to cancel you can't even do it over the phone. Absolutely ridiculous. They require you to go into one of gyms so they can have a sales lackey try to keep you there. I will never ever use Lifetime Fitness again. I am going to stick with my local independent businesses and make the world a better place. Please help me boycott Lifetime Fitness.

I do admit that when you first walk into this place, you will undoubtedly be impressed. The Savage, MN locker room is adorned with fancy wooden lockers, a steam room and even a waiting room with leather couches, a big screen and a closet for coats. The entire feel of this place is very big and great, just like a hotel as the previous reviewer stated. The experience, however, is much less than regal and is more like being in the middle of a zoo or a kiddie play land.
Rules? They don't exist at Lifetime. There is an age limit for the exercise equipment but they are not enforced. When using the equipment you feel like an obstacle in a laser tag tournament with the little ones weaving in and out. The lobby won't give you much relief either as it eerily resembles the howler monkey exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo. And don't even try to swim laps in the 10 yard lap lanes. After 4 arm strokes you will be at the wall and met by a booger or a floating band-aid. If you're lucky like me, you will get kicked in the face or have a toy thrown at you in mid stroke. Don't look to the lifeguards for help because they are too busy sitting in their chairs.
After 2.5 years at this place, I couldn't take it anymore. The only time I could go and work out and have an enjoyable experience was in the latter hours of the day. I went at 11pm and hallelujah, no kids!
If your goal by joining a gym is to actually work out as your priority and become healthy, I would recommend L.A. Fitness; no kids, longer lap lanes and $35 a month instead of $60!

Ratings_icons Lifetime Rocks!

I've never had a problem with these guys. I've been a member for over two years. I like that the facilities are cleaned constantly and that all the employees seem to have the same goal of making you feel at home.

I use the clubs at all hours of the day, including third shift. I guess my only complaint (and they seem to be enforcing this a lot better these days) was that there wasn't always somebody at the front desk at night so it seemed like people could basically walk in even if they weren't members.

And the sales people are kinda hit and miss. I've probably dealt directly with 5 different sales people between the Eagan, Savage, and Bloomington (98th) street clubs over the years and my feelings are up and down there. The woman who signed me and my friends up was very courteous. She was out of savage, but she is no longer with the company. I then dealt with 3 males (nothing against guys, it just so happens the next three sales people were men) for various reasons and they basically all made me feel insignificant - I'm guessing because they weren't getting a commission out of me. The last sales rep I actually dealt with very recently out of the Bloomington 98th Street location and she was extremely helpful even though my questions had nothing to do with getting her a "sale".

If you're just looking for a quick in and out gym, yeah, I can see how Lifetime is not for you. But if you're spending a lot of time there and want more than a gym, it's worth every penny. I highly recommend Lifetime and I especially recommend Mel out of the 98th street location if you're looking to sign up.

lifetime is a very clean and pleasant gym to attend, but I have had so many problems with them being ineffecient with payments etc they told me my health insurance would cover one third of my payments and low and behold when I checked my account they hadnt even submited the information after having it three months, then they had lost my information, this happened twice. Then i had a medical stay and they kept billing my account. Another problem is the pool, people go into the steam room then jump in the pool all sweaty its disgusting, after various complaints nothing has been done. Yes they keep the exercise equipment clean, and its modern, but the personal trainers are constantly pressuring people to get personal training and its off putting, a dozen people i know have left because of this reason. The manager Derek is a very nice man and helpful

Ratings_icons THEY ARE THE WORST GYM EVER

Justin D.

First I joined the gym in Novi, MI when I moved to Florida I tried to cancel I called and emailed I told you have to take time out of your busy day and mail us a letter because we have to have you cancellation request in writing if you can't physically go to the gym and cancel in person. Fine I mail the Letter they received it on June 19th of 2007 more than enough time for them cancel my membership and not bill me for July, at least you would think, but NO I get billed again for July why simple the almighty dollar thats all they care about how much can they squeeze out of you. The name Says it all "Lifetime" because that is how long you have to be a member god forbid you want to leave they will make it soo difficult, your better off joining a Bally's at least with them you know up front that you are in a contract and what you have to pay to get out of it. Don't be fool the nice people you talk to when you sign are sleezer than a used car salesman at a Buy Here Pay Here Lot. The worst part is people told me not to join but I didn't listen please heed my warning stay away for them.

I used to belong to Bally's Total Fitness at this location for 90.00 a year....for basically the same thing....they are not 24 hours and have the same type of equipment with better tiles etc....but for 50.00 a month....think about this for 90.00 I got a year! Now I pay 600.00 for the same thing with the Lifetime Logo.....

I know some of the founders and commend them, but why pay so much??? I really don't like having to check in, put my stuff in a locker just to work out...I don't use the amenities, just enjoy working out and getting out. Not to mention 6 O'Clock and parking issues are annoying.....hate having to work out at 9 just to have open free weight space.

Ratings_icons Typical fitness club

I was a member of this club for about 2 years. When BCBS started their $20/month discount, there were months where I would only be around enough to get exactly 8 or 9 times in. However Lifetime has issues with swiping members in correctly and this became a problem with my reimbursement. They would not admit that there was a problem even though I had been keeping close track of which days I went in. I found many of their employees hard to deal with and lacking in knowledge of the club and policies. After work, it is very hard to find machines to work out on. There aren't enough evening class times for us full timers. This building had a different fitness club prior to Lifetime purchasing it and I feel that they have done a good job of remodeling and updating it -- but there are still opportunities. This New Hope location should offer an exclusive membership (ie. only allows you to use this club location) at a lower price than the other Lifetime locations in the twin cities. Reason being, this club is smaller and doesn't offer as much in terms of equipment, classes, and services.

Ratings_icons Clean, friendly, and updated!

Stephanie L.

I have been a member of Lifetime since Oct '04 and have been very happy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The locker rooms and equipment are extremely clean. Sometime I go there just to shower because I like it so much! I mainly use the equipment rather than going to classes. However one thing to note is two of the four times I have attended classes there, the instructor failed to show. This has discouraged me from attending future classes. It is unfortunate but at least they were apologetic about it. Hopefully they can improve their scheduling and everything would be perfect. :)

PROS: Friendly Staff, Competitive Rates
CONS: Class Instructor
