Had the Juicy Lucy. Delicious. Heard about this from Triple D and tried this when I was in St. Paul. Paid by credit card, and clearly wrote $24 as the total (on a $20.39 total) on the receipt, but after I got my statement a month later, I was charged $26. I know $2 is a minor thing, but I still feel gypped. It's very difficult to mistake a 4 for a 6. It's plausible to mistake a 9 for a 4, but a 4 for a 6 is a bit far fetched. I wonder if anyone has had the same experience? Or does this establishment only do this to out-of-towners who likely won't bother to quip about $2 a month after the fact?

I grew up 2 blocks away and have been enjoying this hole in the wall for close to 40 years. When Mickey sold the place we thought it was over but after a couple years the casper and Runyon kids brought it back with a huge following. Only thing that has changed is the the ynow have more then just 3.2 beer.I can't make it there as much since I live 50 miles north but still try to stop as much as I can.Avoid the crowd and go alittle earlier or later, the wait is worth it. The taste is all in the original grill.

All I say is WOW! I lived in the St. Paul area for 12 years and never had a nook burger. a colleague escorted me and 4 others to an experience i will remember for a lifetime. The one hour wait was worth what I consider the best buger I have consumed in my time on this earth. If you live in the St. Paul area and have not visited the nook, do so. If you are in town and need a place to chow down, look up the nook, you will not be dissapointed. Oh, the fries are to die for!

Nooked for life!

Although you need to wait for a table, the food is worth it! The burgers are AWESOME! The fried green beans are top notch and the fries are hand cut. Whatever you are looking for in a burger place, The Nook has it! It is worth the time to find a parking place and wait for your table.

The Nook has a strong reputation in the Twin Cities, which is puzzling.

I've found the place to be consistently mediocre at best, and a lunch visit earlier today continued that trend.

Specifically-

1. Being busy & having to wait for a table is understandable. But having two parties (8 people & 3 people) seated AFTER us be served their food well AHEAD of us isn't. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes for 3 burgers.

2. My burger was ordered medium, but arrived cooked beyond well done. The cold fries completed the experience.

3. I politely pointed this out to the server, who explained that it wasn't her fault, but the kitchen's fault. Huh??? (The manager did deduct $2 from the bill, which seems almost petty.)

There are much better places in the Twin Cities for a local neighborhood burger. Matt's Bar in Minneapolis and the new Blue Door Pub in St. Paul are head & shoulders above The Nook.

We are from North Dakota. We saw the Nook on The Food Network with Guy Fieri. My son thought we should check it out the next time we were in the Cities. It was all Guy said it was. We go there every time we are able too. Juicy Nookie and fries are awesome. Worth the trip. A must to check out!

We also saw this on Food Network and decided to give it a try. We live in Cincinnati Ohio but love to travel, so this past week we went to St. Paul to visit friends and to give this place a try. First off, I drove past the place twice and didn't see it. Parking wasn't easy to find but once in.. oh man was it good. My wife is not a big meat eater and she looked like she was going to lick her plate. She ate the whole thing... She never finishes her meals, also some bread, fixings or fries left.. but not here. We are already looking forward to our next trip!!

This place is great. I saw it on Food Network with Guy Fieri and I decided to go check it out. It was quite busy at 1:30pm on Sunday. We were put on a waiting list but it didn't take too long. The place is crowded but that shouldn't matter cuz the food is great. We all got the Juicy Nookie and it was worth the wait. It was great. The fries are awesome and are the best I ever had. The service is good and the atmosphere is too. By the time we left... around 3 there was no waiting list so I guess you have to know when to go. Overall: I can't wait to go again.

This little place is far too unrecognized. Amazing burgers.. the Juicy Lucy is by far my favorite, but all the other burgers I've tried have been phenomenal too. All I can tell you is plan ahead and get there before their rush. Many times I've walked in and waited to be seated because they were packed, but it is definitely worth the wait. 100% Recommended. The owners are really cool, down-to-earth guys too!

I discovered this Twin Cities favorite here: a cheeseburger with the cheese IN the burger. so bad for you...so good.

At the Nook you can get just about any burger/sandwich you want, and they have a good beer selection, too. You get a tshirt if you finish their Monster burger. I have yet to earn one, but I think I would be in the running.

This place is popular w. softball teams, so expect to wait for a table on summer eves

PROS: food is A1
CONS: crowded!

Not nearly as good as expected...the cheese in the Juicy Nookie was a Velveeta/American type which was disappointing (cheddar would have been better!). The french fries were good.

The most over rated place in town. Avoid this place like The Plague. Over priced nasty tasting food. Bad service. Two thumbs down. I have to make a star to post this review and it isn't even worth that .

For a restaurant of this catagory and price, it is great. I had the juicy and it actually was, with lots of cheese. The fies (seasoned) are really good. Pricing is wonderful. Expect a wait for a table, but that is a good sign.

The burgers here are fabulous. The service needs some work. They are always busy but it seems they only pay attention to people who are drinking. I always have to ask to get my soda refilled. On this occasion I ordered an appetizer and never received it.

I've been here a number of times within the past year and the experience has been inconsistent, and mostly on the bad side. There's usually a really long wait to get seated, which I wouldn't mind, except I would expect something worth waiting for then. The burgers are pretty good, but if you ask for it done medium don't expect anything less than well done. On a recent visit we waited a 1/2 hour for the food and the fries were cold and soggy. The service is also very slow. On my last visit we had to catch the bus boy to ask him to get our waiter so we could pay.

I'm not going back. Go to Blue Door Pub instead.

Every time I have been to the Nook, I have truly enjoyed the burgers that I have had. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I have never had such a juicy delicious burger in my life.
the last time i went, on a Monday, 6/21/09, was the worst burger I have ever had. Not only was my burger dry and without cheese,(I had the new philly cheese burger) but my wife had her usual shwishmushroom burger and it was burnt and dry also. both burger buns were burnt black and were dry and had a mouth drying effect. I had a couple beers, but that sure didnt help.
I love the Nook and will never discourage people from going and enjoying the awesome burgers, but beware of the mid afternoon cook. we went at 2:30 in the afternoon and, well, cr@p. I love you Nook, but damn that last time I was there, it was horrible.

Hands down these are the best burgers in Minnesota. Loved the Paul Molitor. Plan on waiting for a table though. I have yet to visit the Nook and there is no wait. If you have a little patience, you will be rewarded with great burgers and fries. For a hearty appetite, order the Nookie Supreme!

When I first looked at the outside of this small liitle nook as I was looking for a space to park I was questioning how DDD could have fit there cameras and Guy's big mouth in there. All 10 tables were full at 2 PM. Luckily the friendly patrons at the bar were accommodating enough to my brother-in-law allow us to sit next to each other taking the last two seats. The staff were very friendly. The fries were outstanding. I usually salt and need a dipping sauce. I ate half of them without ketchup. The highlight of course was the Juicy Lucy (Nookie) (Paul Molitor version).. I plan on returning with my older daughter and her fiance. I am gojing to challenge him to take the challenge with me. I want to let everyone know I got some nookie.

These burgers have to be the best burgers I have ever tasted. The cheese inside the juicy nookies is hot and creamy and is amazing on their awesome fries! I have been there multitudes of times and if I wasn't getting married soon and had to fit into a wedding dress I would eat there every day! Their burgers are awesome as well as their fries!

My fiance and I are huge foodies. We love the Food Network and saw The Nook on Guy Fieri's Dinner, Drive-Ins, and Dives, so we had to go since we were going to be in St. Paul! The burgers are amazing! I had the burger stuffed with cheese! WOW! That was a fabulous burger! The first time I went there I didn't like my burger at all. The cheese they put on top was one large chunk that didn't even melt and was rubbery. At the insistence of my husband we went again and I had the Alumni burger with american cheese, one of the best burgers I've had in my life! I only recently started eating hamburger again and this is on the top of my list! The only complaints I have is that since it's so small and packed seating is a pain and service is usually bad. One time our server actually went on break without telling us and nobody stopped by to pick up our service. We waited for 30 minutes to pay after we finished eating, never received any drink refills and had to go to the bar to pay. This bad service happened not once, but twice. The only reason I'm not giving them 2 stars is because I love the burgers!

This is a long over due review! This is the best burger! The best juicy lucy (I order the Molitor). I had wondered if I was bias but my friends confirmed my opinion; better tan Matt's, 5/8, Chatterbox, Herkemier, etc. It is small and crowded (10 tables) but people line up...and they wait. My wife introduced me to this wonderful beef Mecca. I thank her for it regularly. I am sure it has been tempting to expand. Don't destroy a beautiful thing! I will be honest much of the other food is average, but the burgers! Come for the burgers and eat the burgers. They are amazing. If they know you it will only get better. I have no great list of pro and cons it is just great. Go eat.

What a joint!!! We have been there a couple times. The place is small and the atmosphere is cozy, so be prepared to wait. The wait is worth it. The staff is fantastic. They all have smiles whether they are waiting on you or just walking by your table. We were there last weekend and got a fabulous tip...... the owners also have a place on Randolph and West 7th in St. Paul called Shamrocks....same menu...bigger place and less wait. We went there today at 1 p.m. We called ahead and they had a table waiting. The burgers and fries are they same!!! We now have 2 favorite joints!!! Give them both a try...each are unique and fantastic.

I have heard so many great compliments about the burgers at this place, but wonder when is the best time to go? I recently moved just blocks away and was very excited to be so close to hopefully get in at a random time. However, even random times have lines!? If someone can respond the day and time they went, I would love to know....or maybe this place should be kept more of a secret so people can actually get in?

I love burgers and fries and drove 26 miles to try them at The Nook for lunch today. By 10:45 there were about 15 of us standing outside in -19 wind chill temp, but doors were not opened until 11:00. Once inside we were told they were out of onion rings and cheese curds and so ordered the mini corn dogs which we never received. I ordered a regular burger with fried onions and my husband had the juicy nookie, both came in a basket with fries. I had heard the fries were like the ones at the State Fair but they didn't even come close, and while my husband said his burger was pretty good, mine was too pink for me and had a small dab of lukewarm chopped onions. All in all it was a disappointment, the food was nothing special and we both agreed that Matt's has better burgers and fries. We left and went straight to Candyland to get some popcorn and candy to fill that dissatisfied void. The best thing about our lunch today? The servers were friendly and smiling and kept our soda glasses filled, and we were able to park right in front.

I love many burgers for different reasons. This one I love because of the bar food quality. Meat - good, cheese - good, buns - good, together excellent! It comes in a basket, that's what I mean by bar food. The fries reminded me of the state fair fries, not my favorite but pretty tasty. You will wait, even more now they are famous because of D,D, and D on the food network. We waited for about a hour and a half on a Tuesday. But I would recommend it!

Pros: Great burgers, good fries

Cons: The wait and size of the place

The best burger place in the Twin Cities by far. We all had a different burger and they were all fantastic - as were the perfectly beer-battered onion rings that we ordered as a side.

The fries are homemade and totally awesome - they reminded me of the State Fair fries - but crispier.

Be ready to wait though - it took us about 45 minutes to get a table and it does take a while for the food to come. But the friendly wait staff will keep your glass full while you wait and the quality of the food is well worth the wait. Sit back and watch TV or take in all of the memorabilia. You will not be disappointed.

The prices are very reasonable. We fed three adults and a child for under $45.

No time to wait? Call ahead and get your burger to go.

Pros: Quality and Quantity of food; friendly service

Cons: Long wait

This dive of a burger joint is a 5 star in my book because it does everything you expect in a classic burger. It's big, it's cheezy, it's hot, it comes in a basket, it has really good crispy dark golden fries next to it. The place is very small, serving only about 35-40. Comfortable warm friendly atmosphere. We went at 1:30PM last Saturday and were seated at 2:45. Long wait. But, nobody complained, everyone just visited with each other and as each patron left, they told us, "keep waiting, it's worth it!" They were right. Go and enjoy.

By far the best place that I have ever gotten a burger from in my life!!!!! It is small, and it is crowded, but the food is so delicous it completely takes your mind away from the crowd. Give it a try you WON'T be disappointed! :D I had the juicy nookie and I think next time I am going to try and eat the two supreme nooks for the free t-shirt! They are just that good! The price is great too. Will surely be back to it soon! :D

Pros: GREAT FOOD! GREAT PRICE!

Cons: Crowded, small hole in the wall

The Nook is a great place to go to get an awesome burger, and fries. Beer is a always flowing, lots of people, and a great bar atmosphere. The menu is also full of different options if you want to stray away from the norm, but who knows how unless you are a vegetarian. People on a diet beware, this is not a place for you. This place rocks, and is highly recommended, the only downfall is that they need a bigger place. Went there at 3:30pm on a Saturday, and there was a line out the door, but we got seated in under 30 minutes.

Pros: best burger place in town, lots of different menu options, great service!!!

Cons: small place, may need to wait a bit for a table, but deninately worth it!!!

While I was there I listened to the wait staff be mad about people calling for directions, due to Diners Drive inns and Dives review of them., hummm seems like free national advertising to me. Also the burgers were burnt to a crisp. Fries were a bonus, they were crisp and yummy. Was not as impressed as Guy. Won't travel to Highland for the Nook any time soon.

Pros: good french fries

Cons: Very bad service, burnt hamburgers

Great burgers, although slightly greasy. It's the buzz and fell of the places that wins it. If you're looking for a disctinctive hole-in-the-wall neighborhood burger joint, this is it. Only got 4/5 stars because it was overflowing at like 7PM on a Thursday evening - very little space.

I use this website all the time to look up other people's reviews of restaurants and this was the first time I've been so excited that I signed up for an account so I could write my own review. I'd been meaning to try a Nook burger forever and now I just wish I hadn't let so many months go by before actually doing so. It was deeee-licious. The fries were fabulous. I'm a HUGE fan of Matt's Bar and it may remain my sentimental fave, but the burger and fries I had tonight were among the best I've ever had. My kind of place--amongst our crew were three children younger than 3, and nobody seemed to mind their wanderings. The fries kept them well-occupied while we ate. All around, EXACTLY what we were looking for tonight--casual, easy, relaxing, with really, really delicious food and the Twins, on multiple televisions, won. Who could ask for more? Will be back often.

This place is one of our favorites. I actually have them on speed dial to check if they have tables open. The burgers are great. Pepper Jack cheese inside the burger?!!! I wear my Nook T-shirt proudly after taking their challenge. It is great hole in the wall you need to check out.

Let's face it, sometimes we just want a good burger in a chill atmosphere. The Nook is the place to go for just that. It's the neighborhood burger joint. It's always overflowing with people and that 's a good thing. The wait is definitely worth it, plus it's usually not that long. The burgers fulfill your cravings doesn't dent the wallet. I would totally recommend The Nook for one of those days where you want to stay in your sweats and have a fantastic burger.

Cons: can get busy

First off, the atmosphere is great! Staff friendly and make you feel welcome! The wait can be long(first come first serve for tables). But that is a non issue because you can grab an ice cold beer! While you wait! Hamm's on tap! Very rare to find that fantastic beer on tap...Then you make you way to your table to sit down to the best burgers and fries anywhere that I have ever eaten at!! I love to eat burgers and have tried other establishments never to be beat by the Nook! My wife and I both agree that after having a Nookie Supreme (our personal favorites) that ordering a burger elsewhere is just not the same and in fact I went from someone who no matter where I went ordered a burger to only getting my burgers at the Nook because others are just not a burger anymore! The basic burgers are superior aswell!

My girlfriend and I both agree that this is the greatest hamburger on planet earth or anywhere else in the solar system. If you love hamburgers go there right now and get one. I said go and get one right now!

I am very picky about my burgers and don't give props to many. The "juicy nooky" burger was awesome, the fries were great and the draught beer selection was impressive for such a small joint. I can imagine the place gets pretty crowded though because it is pretty small. Right across the avenue from where Joe Mauer played high school ball.

Nothing is better than a Nook burger, it doesnt matter which one you choose; I am confident you will be satisfied. My personal favorite is the Lodge burger, and the fries are phenomenal. This hole in the wall is great for families, picky kids can always find something they like. I have never been dissatisfied with the food or service. The staff at the nook has a unique way of making you feel right at home, The owners are two very charismatic gentlemen and the wait staff is phenomenal, everyone looks happy to be there. Waiting for a table when its crowded can get long, but please have patience! once you get your food you will forget you had to wait. Living in Milwaukee I have decided that the nook is worth a 5 hour drive, Best burgers I have ever had!!! Is this place fun or what?
