We had a great meal. Our car was broken into and we found out afterwards that Valet parking means public parking. Jeff the manager had no idea about their insurance. Insurance does not cover personal items. Good food but I can not

Atmosphere is nice, server was good but not great in attentiveness. They charge 38$ for a bottle of Juan Gil red wine. This sells for $12-13 at most wine stores and $10 at Costco. A markup is understandable, but tripling the price seems too much. Note they have a $20 corking fee (also above usual for our area) but then at least you could get a $20 bottle for $40 instead of a $12 bottle for $40. Food was pretty good - scallops delicious, veal meatballs very good, chorizo sausage not that great, lamb paella was good.

Cons: wine is overpriced

You have never seen portions so small in your entire life. I spent 60 dollars and walked out very hungry. Big time disappointment...there are lots of better places for the money.

I had been a frequenter of Solera because of their great food and wine selection. I took my family there whie they were visiting from Chicago, a group of 10 people. My dad ordered a bottle of wine, they didn't have it, and so without giving us a menu again the server made a suggestion for somthing similar. That similar bottle happened to be over $100 more than the original. I understand an upsell of $20 but 100??? I was so appalled when my mom told me later what happened, my poor father was too embarrassed to admit he couldn't afford it, but too late! When I tried to get the wine reimbursed later for him, it was hell trying to get a hold of the manager. I will never go back because they didn't try at all to win us back... I am furious and embarrassed that my dad's only experience of Minneapolis was getting ripped off.

My husband & I have been loyal to Solera (we had the luck of making dinner reservations for New Year's, so we did not get stuck out in the cold or miss out on our money's worth of drinks). My only reservation with this restaurant is the dessert menu. Being the chocolate person that I am, it's extremely disappointing to see that 99% of it does not include chocolate (the exception being the dessert sampler, which includes a tiny chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich). I know the owners read these postings, so please add some chocolate! Thanks!

For my sisters birthday this last weekend, she chose to go to Solera's to celebrate. At the beginning I had been very reluctant to go since I have never been there before, but once we arrived we all had a great time! It was a little crowded but overall the enviornment was upbeat and fun! The drinks were great and I will be returning again soon!

I went out for girls' night a little while ago. We always try to find a place we've never been before. Some places we've gone have either been too expensive or not enough of a "fun" environment. We went to Solera and had such a blast! We got buck in here!!! Crazy crunk! I would definitely rock my stiletto's again with my ladies at Solera's!!!

Just visited this restaurant for the first time...What a gorgeous space?! This is one of the few places Barcelona has been recreated tastefully. The food was delightful and our professional server guided us through the all-Spanish wine list with ease. Highly recommend the tasting menu. Will return.

There has been a lot of disappointment in Solera as of late. I agree that it is not smart to judge an eatery/bar on one experience. NYE was a massive disaster. It is also smart to read reviews spanning back 6 to 9 months. This industry is famous for heavy employee/management turnover, so 6 to 9 months is an excellent gauge. There doesn't appear to be 'braggingly' happy customers recently. This technique in judging a potential place hasn't faild me yet.

I cannot begin to voice how upset I am with Solera and their NYE celebration. Dissapointment and disgust are probably the best words I can use. Several other reviews have been written, so I will not ramble on, as you can read others thoughts. And, yes...It was that bad. My group of friends were looking for a new place to frequent, and this will be a place that none of us will ever attend again. We gave the bar a reasonable opportunity to regain our trust and were told they weren't interested. My family, friends, and co-workers will find elsewhere to do our business.

I have to say that I'm reading posts about Solera with disbelief.

The comment "I gave the bar a chance to regain our confidence in this place and was told they were not interested in our business." doesn't even sound like Solera's staff or management. I've done a fair amount of business with the restaurant and that is not how they handle feedback...good or bad.

My experience at the bar on New Year's Eve, the bartenders were moving at a fast pace and joked around with the guests. In fact, one of the bartenders was so entertaining to watch while he was pouring that the guests applauded him as he was handing out drinks.

Yes, it was a crush on New Year's Eve. But I guess for a night of celebration, I would take that over going to a party with low attendance. The people watching was rather entertaining and those around us seemed to be having a good time.

It's fine to give feedback, but do it objectively without slandering a restaurant / bar for a single night out of the year.

I have always been a fan of Solera. I must say that I was a frequent customer especially because their sangria - in my opinion, it is the best in town. However, because of the experience I had on NYE's, I will no longer return. When economic times are hard, you expect excellence when you pay $70 a person for admission and alcohol. The staff was less than excellent and unprepared and the bartenders were slow and unfriendly. I hope Solera's management as well as the owner take these comments seriously in order to prevent a reoccurence.

Please read every review in the last 6 months. It appears that we are not alone. Something has obviously changed at this place. I do not feel that my previous review was unfair. Everything I said was factual. Therefore, it is not slander. The bartender you mention may be the bartender in the downstairs bar. He was working very hard, and I tipped him well for his service. I spoke (kindly, mind you) with many of the employees that evening, and they were as upset as the patrons because upon the employees everybody was taking out their frustrations.
We gave the bar a chance to regain our confidence in hosting another event in which several (at least 50) of the discontened NYE party-goers would attend. It was a drink special that other bars downtown duplicate because of our repeat business as young professionals. Their refusal to host ensures that none of us will ever go there again. Marketing 101: Happy customers will tell 2-3 people about their experience. Unhappy customers will tell 9-10. All of us plan to tell much more than 9-10.

I will never again return to Solera just because of New Years Eve 2009. I had never been there and now will not go no matter what! I had a lot of fun sitting in the gay bar across the street by myself because I literally could not feel my legs from standing in the cold so long. OH, and I loved the kind courtesy of all the bouncers, NOT. How rude, seriously. Get some manners, I don't even know how you were hired. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Oh, and the girls with the horrible body paint?? Paalleezze... Whoever put this event together needs to relocate.

As I see there are alot of mixed reviews of NYE I would like to say that I had a good time. In perspective, was it a packed house on NYE?...ya. Was it busy and did you have to wait for drinks...ya? But what do you expect when you pay a ridiculous low price of $70 for Grey Goose and Patron all night in a downtown Minneapolis bar on NYE. It was overcrowded and the heaters didn't work on the rooftop when I tried to smoke, but the bartenders up there greeted me with a smile everytime. And I believe for the money spent I had a great time with all my friends.

Don't ever go to Solera for NYE. You've been warned. Management at this place is HORRID; reading others reviews across the web confirms this. I had the same experience of waiting outside for over an hour to enter this dismal place (even after pre-ordering tickets!). Service was terrible (the bartenders were drinking/taking shots) and the only cool part of the place was the 1st floor bar, and even that wasn't great. There was nothing special about floors 2 or 3 (just large banquet rooms; not all that elegant). I would imagine the roof could be cool, but I didn't make it up there. I know it was a 1 time deal, but I've read plenty of others stories about the horrible staff/management at this place. I don't ever plan on returning. Thanks for ruining mine & many others 2009 New Year, Solera!

We had prepaid tickets for NYE at Solera, which was advertised to be a great time. We got there and had to wait in a line in the freezing cold for over an hour. When we finally made it to the door the boucer didn't check our tickets or ID and ignored us when we asked what the wait was for. We got in and found more long lines for coat check and long lines at the bar. The place was packed with people and understaffed.

It was the biggest waste of time and money. I would never recommend Solera to anyone.

We paid $73/ticket for what was advertised to be a great NYE party. However...even though we had prepaid for our tickets, we had to wait in the freezing cold for well over an hour. Luckily we had on long coats, but that doesn't help much when it's just above 0 and we are in dresses and open toed shoes because we expected to get in right away and not have to worry about keeping warm.

By the time we finally made it to the door, the bouncer didn't even look at our tickets or our IDs and ignored us as we tried to find out why we had to wait for so long! When we got in we found more long lines for coat check and even longer lines for a drink! It didn't appear that anyone in the place was having a good time. All you heard people talk about was how horribly planned this event was. We ended up leaving and going to another bar downtown that didn't have a cover charge, had a live band and enough bar tenders working so you could actually get a drink.

I've been letting everyone I know about the horrible experience we had and I will never recommend Solera to anyone.

My boyfriend and I spent $146 to go to this dreadful event. This monte carlo themed disaster. Apparently there were going to be bond girls and body paint? Where was this? And an open bar pass??? Well, I bought one and had 2 drinks. So pretty much I spent $12.50 a drink. LAME. I could hardly walk through any of the floors because there were so many people. I felt like I was at Mount Rose, MN's prom in the gym. It pretty much sucked. The "bouncers" or whatever they were were total powertripping freaks. "Get in an organized line or you don't get in" LOL WHAT??!! How about we paid 70 bucks and you let us in now jerks??? Who were those guys? Rent-a-bouncers? They sucked big time..horrible. And the cold. I waited outside from 9 (when it started) til 10:15...what the hell? How were we expected to get in an organized line when they didnt even know how to organized an event? MONEY BACK PLEASE!!!

I was one of the unfortunate ones who attended Solera's NYE party. Not only was I outside for hours waiting to get in, coat check was a nightmare and getting a drink was a nightmare. I was so mad I left early because I could barely move in the crowd. Doors were to open at 9pm and they didn't even start letting people in until around 9:30. It was so cold out, the girl next to me was crying because of the pain. I still can't believe that they made people stand outside. Awful, awful awful. I would really like my money back for the 3 drinks I got with my unlimited pass. I don't even want to give you the one star......Booo...

Worst new years ever. Anyone who gave them a five star review must be an employee at Solera. My party waited for an hour to get in, even though we had tickets. Then after waiting an hour to check our coats in ,we went to the bar. At the bar we waited a half an hour to get a drink. I also noticed people with out wrist bands getting free drinks, why did we have to pay extra to have an open bar pass? If Solera sold a certain amount of tickets ahead of time why weren't they prepared to have those people show up? It was an awful night. Those five star reviews are obviously BS because anyone paying money to get in would never give that circus at Solera a five star review.

I hate to give a bad review, but the event that took place at Solera on NYE leaves me no option. For those of you who had fun, you are lucky! I dont know how you pulled it off, I can usually make the best of a crappy situation- apparently not all of them. To be honest, waiting outside in the cold was the easy part. Between the chock-full establishment (I mean literally butt to gut), the all out brawl to get a drink, the hostile employees, the extensive coat check line, the entertainment that must have been in some secret room, the forgotten count down, the mysterious champagne toast that never was, and the fact that I paid for it all- I dont have many positive things to say. Sorry Solera, but I would rather spend my next NYE gatting a pap smear. I am thankful my friends and I were able to spend our time joking about how terrible it was. Maybe I should have payed them the 90 bucks.

This party was a complete joke, we prepaid for our tickets and sat outside in 5 degree weather for an hour. This was the most poorly planned party I have ever experienced. After waiting an hour in line outside, an hour for coat check and about 20 min to get a drink we finally started to have a good time at 11:30.

I am calling VISA to reverse the charges to my credit card as this was a complete mis-representation of services. Way to go Solera, you successfully made 1,600 people hate your establishment!

TERRIBLE NEW YEARS. As the other people wrote, we pre-paid $70 days in advance and we were excited for the party. Upon our arrival, the doors were not even OPENED (even though it "started" at 9), and we had to wait in the FREEZING MN weather. I was certain I was going to get frostbitten. Once inside, we had to wait an HOUR for coat check (one person working!) and then we only received TWO drinks the TWO hours we were there. The casino tables seemed ok but the decorations were subpar - I felt like I was at prom. We left immediately following midnight (which they didn't even countdown or announce!) and had to wait another 30 minutes to get our coat. NEVER GOING AGAIN! I want my money back.

I will agree with everyone on here that the Solera NYE bash was the WORST ever. I called, however, and they are offering full refunds for the horrible experience. This was run by a production company and not Solera, and the restaraunt is trying to make up for it the best they can. The establishment itself is a great place normally and I think we will return, but only because they are so apologetic for the events of Dec. 31st that we all remember so badly. I highly reccomend Solera on any other night, but be cautious next NYE. I hope they bring the production company to court that did this to us and their usually good name.

My friends and I were very excited for Solera's NYE party. However, it turned out to be one of the worst nights /event experiences. Similar to the other reviewers, we purchased tickets in advance with the expectation of a New Years party to remember. We will remember this night for a long time, but not in a good way. We arrived early, but that didn't matter. We were at least 50 people deep in line when the doors were scheduled to open at 9...which they didn't. After waiting in line for 30 min, the rude bouncers searched for our names on the list. We were then told to wait in line for a wrist band since they ran out. When another bouncer returned with the wristbands he wouldn't believe that we had already been checked off the list. Once we had our wristbands, we were told to go inside, but the bouncer would not let us in until we finished putting them on. We went upstairs and waited another 30 min at the coat check where one person was chatting with customers while another person put the coats away (I don't know why the both weren't working). After another 30 min wait, we had one drink. The bar never checked ID's for entry or to get a drink. For all they know, they could have served many people underage. Throughout the night, the bars were impossible to get to and the wait for drinks became ridiculous. At one point, the guy next to me ordered 9 long-islands, so I ordered 6 beers and 4 wiskey cokes. The bartender then handed me a 6-pack still in the case and 4 drinks. That was the only good point in the night. Following that, the bouncers became increasingly rude and at one point became physically aggressive with the partons...litterally shoving people out the door.
The events, attractions, and theme were very good conceptually, but the execution was terrible. Solera should issue partial refunds to everyone who attended this event. If they sold 500 less tickets, this would have been a great party.

HORRIBLE PLANNING! I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN, AND I DO NOT RECOMEND IT. AFTER PAYING $70 WE GOT TO WAIT OUTSIDE FOR OVER AN HOUR... THEN WHEN WE GOT IN THE DOOR (AFTER GETTING PAST THE RUDE BOUNCERS) WE COULDNT MOVE AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A DRINK. THERE WAS SO MANY PEOPLE THERE THAT DRINKS WERE BEING SPILLED EVERYWHERE INCLUDING ON PEOPLE. IT WAS VERY UNDERSTAFFED... ONLY 2 BARTENDERS ON THE FIRST FLOOR. WE HAD TO WAIT 20 MINUTES FOR 1 DRINK AND IT WAS MADE WRONG. THIS WAS THE WORST NYE EVER AND THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I WILL NEVER GO BACK AND I WILL MAKE SURE I LET OTHERS KNOW NOT TO GO THERE TOO! I WOULD HAVE RATHER SAT AT HOME WITH A $70 BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE AND I WOULD HAVE HAD MORE FUN...

Cons: EVERYTHING!!! HORRIBLE PLANNING

Have you ever wanted to experience a poorly planned, understaffed NYE party? Solera is your place. Lets begin with an hour wait outside for people who PREPAID. Once you finally get to the door your met by unwelcoming cranky bouncers. Alright, now its time to grab some drinks at the open bar and dance into the New Years right? WRONG. Another 45 min wait at a coat check followed by 30 mins+ to get a drink. Simply a joke.

Solera's had by far the absolute worst New Year's party ever experienced. Not only did people have to wait outside for two plus hours to get in (even though they had previously purchased a ticket to get in) but you had to wait about that long to get a drink at the bar. What is even worse is because of their poor planning they opened the doors to everyone by the end of the night which meant that some people didn't even have to pay the $45-$100 to be there!!!!!! And on top of that their first floor didn't even announce when the New Year arrived so we all missed it.....I would like to Thank you Solera for the worst New Year I have ever had................. GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I went there to use a $60 gift card that we had. What an embarrassment, we ordered 6-7 different items and they were OK at best. The stuffed figs were cold and gross!! For the price they charge for their tapas you'd expect perfection. Oh, and we ended up having to fork over an additional $50 with only ordering 2 drinks. Absolutely terrible, we'll never go back.

My co workers and I went to Solera because we have heard of their great roof top. We went there and had a fine time but when it came to the bill I have never had such a horrible experience. First, we ordered the Tapas for 2. The menu stated that it was $25 and our bill stated $29. When I asked our server about the discrepancy, she stated that it was an old menu and she did not change our bill. Then we asked if we could split up the bill between our 3 credit cards. She said it was no problem and when she came back, our individual tabs added up to much more than our original tab. When we asked for clarification she informed us that when splitting tabs between credit cards, there is an automatic 15% gratuity fee added. It STILL didn't add up right, so we asked to see the bill. Turns out there was another additional 7% charge to even use a credit card. So all in all, our credit cards were charged an extra 22% and there was no mention of it at all to us. We then asked if we could instead pay cash, or put it all on one credit card and the server refused saying she already ran the cards and it couldn't be reversed. I regret not talking to the manager, but all I know is I will not be going there ever again and I will be advising my co workers not either.

I am usually the fun person, who picks the great places to go in the family. My cousin was up from Florida, and I bragged about Solera and the Tapas, Sangria, etc. I went with my parents and her. CRAZY!! We went on Sunday night, and there were girls making out with eachother, grabbing eachother, etc. at 5:30 in the evening on the rooftop. The music was far too loud than what it is during the week after work. Food was good, service was excellent, but come on...I was embarrassed I recommended it!

I've been dropping in at Solera for the late night happy hour recently (half price drafts and sangria, $2 off cocktails, $2-3 tapas) and always enjoy the bar and the great specials, but last Tuesday was the first night of a cool new band at Solera. They said their name was Tico Tico, and they played a lot of latin jazz and salsa and some African sounding music. The music was great, not too loud, but very energetic. I was told that the bass player was from Ivory Coast, and he sounded amazing. I was really expecting to see some dancing, because the music was perfect for it. Maybe this week. Regardless, I'll be back on Tuesdays to hear some more.

So my husband and I went here for our anniversary and they seated us in a cozy two person booth. It started out quiet, but then a group of seven people came in and sat next us and although they were a little loud, our experience was still good. We tried 5 tapas plates and most of them were very good. My favorite was dish was the veal meatball and I loved the sangria (although it could've used a little more fruit). The ambience is very nice; it can be romantic if you sit in one of their cozy booths, but if you want more noise and liveliness, then I suggested sitting in the room with the bar. All in all a great place to go if you want to have a romantic night or if you want to go as a group.

We just got back from Solera's and I promised Steve the manager I would write a great review on our first time there!

After much researching online and reading reviews, I decided to make reservations at Solera's for my birthday dinner last night for my group of 10. I reserved the Alhambra Room and it just happened to be available, despite my procrastination in making reservations. When we arrived the hostesses were very welcoming and immediately took us to our room which weaved almost around the whole 1st floor of the restaurant.

The room itself was very private in the back and decorated with colorful walls, lighting fixtures, etc. I was a bit confused though when I saw the room with chairs set up, as I had presumed the seating arrangements were going to be oversized cushions as the website described. I hesitated on requesting it be changed due to the complications, but felt compelled to ask. Our waitress Jessie was hesitant in making it happened, but the manager Steve came by and said it wouldn't be a problem and that it would take 10 minutes or so (which btw, he came by and offered to take our picture with 5 different cameras before announcing that). I was very grateful they were able to do so being that I wasn't aware the chairs were standard and cushions available upon request when making the reservation. Within 10 minutes we were back at our room sitting on cushions and ordering drinks/food. Jessie was very helpful and patient as we ordered the dishes, and within a short period of time came back with everything.

The bill came up to $332--with $160 of it being the tapas, about $100 for drinks and 20% gratuity--which is not that bad for a group of 10! Our favorite was the fried calamari, short ribs, asparagus! Although the tapas were a bit small, but everything else made up for it! An overall great first time experience due to the management/staff/service, and the whole ambience of Solera!

We will definitely tell our friends and be back!

My first experience at Solera was a rooftop movie on a Sunday summer night. I consider it one of the best nights I've had in DT Minneapolis. Great service, fun idea.

I've also had dinner at the restaurant twice. Like another reviewer said "Get the duck!". Great food, great service, and possibly the best wine I've ever had.

I guess I should be excited about eating at Solera.
I was. After eatting from the prescribed menu I felt under whelmed.
I did enjoy some of the choice, but some of the others were, well, OK.
Not sure if I'd go back, but the drinks were prepared with care.

My wife and I absolutely love Solera! We have been there numerous times and have never been disappointed... Infact we got married on the rooftop 2 1/2 years ago.. We tell everyone we know to go there! If you like wine, may we suggest the Sangria ! Delicious... buy it by the pitcher! The menus have changed a few times, but always something new and wonderful to try... This is and has been our favorite place to get THE BEST meal, hands down.

Solera was so much fun a few Saturdays ago.....the rooftop, not sure if it has a name or not but our group had a wonderful time. They have a DJ who is OK but give them credit for a great time much more relaxed then that Chambers Hotel, sorry no super models here. The service was great keep up the good work.
