Shopping at Mary Lue's and the Woolen Mill is always a bit different each time I stop in. The last time I was there, I bought one of their hand made wool mattress pads. I LOVE it! They don't have a lot of them on display though, you have to ask to see them.

They have reset the store for easier walking and shopping over the last year and have added quite a bit of new-fashion yarns and patterns. It' s kinda fun to see college age young women mingling with us "oldies". One of the things they do really well at is educating people like myself who have not picked up a pair of knitting needles since high school. I compare it to the old school version of a hardware store where you could buy the tools AND get some great advice and direction on HOW TO.

The one thing I think they could do better at is perhaps to improve their location. If I could get them to move their store to Mankato, that would be wonderful! Oh, and more finished products to buy would be great!

This store is also known as Mary Lue's. It is a historic store in town... it's actually a woolen mill still today, I believe. You can peek in the back and see them making things with wool on big racks. It's a neat place to visit and they have a lot of nice gift-type items toward the back of the store.

They carry yarn and quilting supplies, but in my opinion, they're not that great. It seems to be the same stuff you can get at Michael's, just more expensive. I guess since their items in this area aren't unique, I wouldn't personally buy them there.

It's a nice store to visit and browse in, though, if only for the historical significance.
