The food was ok but more than anything there was this short haired blonde waitress that was such a RUDE, B***H! The lovely woman that seated us was awesome & we wanted to keep her but the Blonde, Sadie I think her name was, IS the main

My husband and I had our first visit Friday night and it won't be our last. We started with apps, the shrimp cocktail and crabcakes were wonderful. The walleye I had for my entree covered the entire length of my dinner plate and was very tasty, I also sampled my hubby's filet mignon and was equally impressed with the taste and the portion size. The sauces served with both the appetizers and entrees were fresh and a great enhancement to what they were served with. We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our night out. Our server was prompt and very courteous; he answered all of our questions and met all of our "demands". The band was a nice addition to the atmosphere and we were able to converse with no problem while they played.

We went there this past Saturday evening for our monthly dinner gathering with friends, 6 total, and we were not disappointed. I have read so many things about Erte that it was time to find out for myself. Our server was very friendly and yes, she did have tatoos , but who cares when you are a genuinely nice person. I have met plenty of tatoo-less bitches in my life! She made suggestions for food and wine and we enjoyed everything. Food is reasonably priced and so are the drinks. The place does not look like much on the outisde but very eclectic on the inside. Very comfortable atmosphere. There were 2 very small drawbacks; it does get warm in there when it is crowded. The server even admitted that it is in need of better air flow. And the band that played, although very nice, soft jazz, was a bit too loud to have table conversation without raising your voices a tad. But when you have atmosphere, food and service at a high level, little things shouldn't ruin your evening.

My hubby and I went here for a date night before seeing a show at the Ritz theater just down the street. Although it took our waitress, Barb, a little long (more than 5, but less than 10 minutes) to get to our table, once she was there, she was great. I asked a number of questions about the available wines, and ending up going with her suggestion, which was their house white - a nice middle of the road chardonnay. My husband is a beer snob and was very impressed with the beer selection.
We ordered the erte platter to start, which is a nice plate of cheeses, bread, fruit and a to-die-for chutney. Barb actually brought the chef out to the table to tell us what all went in to the slightly-sweet, slighty-spicy raspberry chutney.
Entrees were delicious - I had the special, which was scallops with a chipotle orange glaze, and my husband had the duck. Drinks were offered and refilled on a timely basis. The live music added a little extra fun to the evening.
Overall - great food, great service in a relaxed, yet upscale, atmosphere.

My wife and I have been there on two seperate occasions in the past 6 months. Both times we were met by snotty servers. Don't plan to ask any questions or you'll just get attitute. We took my mom here on her Birthday - she asked the server what wine she'd recommend with the fish entree, and it was like asking a teenager to turn off their cell phone: heaps of eye-rolling and audible sighs. Mind you there were only three tables in the restaurant (went on a Monday). When the server realized it was my mothers birthday her attitude improved from "I detest you people" to "now I barely tolerate you".

We only went back because we were very happy with our food the first time - so much so that we overlooked the service issues. I can personally only speak for the steaks. I had the filet mignon the first time and the "house" the second time and both were wonderful. The entrees look relatively uninspered, but my table-mates seemed to like them.

This place has good food at good prices, but the service needs serious help. For us, the law of dimishing returns has kicked in - I doubt we'll be back anytime soon.

Went there for a birthday dinner and it ended up being the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant. The food is as good as the service! Both of us work in the industry and couldn't believe how bad this was. My friend's dish was tasteless and my steak was undercooked. Cannot find your server when you need them and when you do you get nothing but a bad attitude. I sent my steak back to be cooked more and my friend ordered something completely different. Not any better. After more bad service we asked to talk to a manager and what we got was the owner who came out yelling at us for returning her bland dish! She wouldn't listen to anything we tried to say, just kept cutting us off. The worst food and service I have ever had!!

The staff was very friendly, but the food was awful and the menu was ridiculous: "Cowboy Shrimp," and Nachos on a fine dining menu? Are you joking? Aside from the equally dumb names for their dishes the food was so below average I felt bad for the restaurant.
I ordered a $28.00 porterhouse and received a slab of Grissel and oily au gratin potato's.
We literally left the restaurant drove to Lunds and cooked a far superior meal for half of the cost.

This place is cute, quaint, and has TERRIFIC food! The only down side was that on the night we visited, the place was full, and quite noisy. It could be a very romantic place, if the other people dining kept their voices down.

My husband and I love Erte! They have a great happy hour that last until 7 during the week which is unheard of! All of the staff is very nice and always on the ball. Those people must never have a bad day! The food is wonderful and the setting is even better. I would highly suggest a visit to Erte, but make reservations!

There doesn't seem to be a review written for a while and Erte keeps getting better and better. My wife and I rarely go two weeks without a visit. The fish specials are consistently wonderful, the hashbrowns (we get a half order to share, which covers the entire plate), are excellent. The service can be a little un-even, but several of the servers are an absolute joy. Finally, there is live music on most Fridays and Saturdays, jazzy duos, bluesy trios and even an excellent quintet or two...Check it out - great food in an extraordinary room.

We got a gift certificate for this new, hip restaraunt in NE MPLS. It was very quaint and quiet for a romantic meal or a classy place to hang out or meet. Stylishly decorated. The food was VERY good and elegant -definitely not your average bar or burger joint! The service was wonderful with knowledgeble waitresses that knew the foods and able to make good suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

PROS: Atmosphere andfood!
CONS: a bit too quiet?

Everything was wonderful - the service was delightful, the steak was cooked to perfection, the wine list was very affordable with great selections. The only downside of the evening was the size of the wine glasses - a little on the small side. But everything else more than made up for that!

Sat at a table in the bar for dinner on a Sat. night - took the server 20 minutes to come over to the table (the bar was NOT crowded), another 30 min. to get our drinks. He would walk by our table as if we were not even there! We finally just left some cash (he never came back with the bill after we requested it from additional sources, even with the bartender) and went to the Sample Room for great service and food as usual. Erte was a waste of time.

We were disappointed with Erte! Two people were running the entire restaurant/bar tonight. We called last week to make reservations. Warm chardonnay and cloudy martini's. One waitress tried to handle the tables (5 seated tables). A table of four got up and left after waiting for service.

The waitress mentioned bottles of wine were 1/2 price. We ordered a nice Red and were told they were out of that particular wine. She suggested an Australian Shiraz that is $7.00 retail per bottle. No thanks. We ordered a drink. We watched her tell the table next to us that they were out of their selection too. Four in our party, three ordered the pork chops, the other ordered Salmon. The thin Pork Chops came in a pool of juice, no potatoes, no veggie, nothing else. The Salmon came with green beans. The salmon was fine, nothing special. Again, disappointing.

This is a great steak place. While it is not one of the "Big Three" steakhouses in Minneapolis, it is good.

Pricing is good. You won't drop big bucks on dinner.

The au grautin potatos were a disappointment.

Service must be fine-tuned yet this is a definite worthwhile visit. Cool space similar to an open-hall in days past. Awesome old school ceiling. Can get loud, and sometimes echo, but with the live music that often plays, this cuts back on customers loud chat. Food is great, reasonably priced, and valued correctly. I do enjoy the steak and the ala carte side dishes. For cocktails, the newly (somewhat) added Peacock Lounge is AWESOME! Beautiful atmosphere with live music up high. Classy establishment.

Went for a birthday celebration and it was anything but. The food was mediocre at best. People had to send back food - two for their cold and lumpy mashed potatoes; one for their supposed "famous" steak that was charred to the point of tasting more like Kingsford than meat. It was so noisy you could only talk to the person sitting directly next to you and this still required a megaphone in order to be understood. The real killer was the service. They only had two people working the entire dining room, so we most of our time waiting, either to order or for another drink. In fact, at one point, we were ignored so long that every water glass on the table was empty. And, at the end of this frustrating "celebratory" evening, they slapped us in the face by automatically charging an 18% gratuity!! Not 15%, 18%!!

The Mr. and I had been here a few times earlier when we were dating. The experience was okay, not fantastic, and not horrible. The other night we were looking for a restaurant, and I found Erte in the Happenings book. We were reluctant to go since we had such mediocre prior experiences. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff. We were treated to wine samples until a table opened up. Once our food arrived, it was absolutely delicious. Erte has improved in my book.

Erte is magic. I went recently for dinner with a friend and lucked into one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in awhile. Our waitress was a gem. Her recommendation of the crabcakes was spot-on. I fluffy cake with real crab and great aioli. I had the bone-in ribeye rare/medium-rare...perfect! Juicy, perfectly fatty in the right places and overall one of the better steaks I have had. My only suggestion is that the broiler be a bit hotter to melt the fat. Otherwise, perfect. I highly reccomend the hashed browns. Winelist was inexpensive and concise. Mood was upbeat and laidback. Overall a fantastic plase to share a meal.

My boyfriend and I visited on Valentines Day 2004 and had such a wonderful time. We made reservations and we were 15 mins early and still seated right away. Our server helped us to pick a great wine to go with our steaks which were tender and cooked to perfection. The salads and sides were wonderful and the music was fun but romantic! Maybe they really stepped up the service to impress for Valentines Day but we can't wait to go back!

I've been a regular (once a week) customer since Erte opened. Today I had lunch there and the menu has changed-fewer options and most of the prices have increased. They have certainly lost me as a lunch patron. I may have dinner there when I want to share some of my funds, but definitely not for lunch. If I want to have a good steak or salmon for lunch there are plenty of other great places to do so. I will miss Bill, the waiter though....he's an excellent waiter.

After a string of bad luck at restaurant spots, I hit on a dinner at Erte. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and just as ordered. Good portions, very reasonably priced, including the wine list - not to mention some interesting glass pours. And the server actually recommended a wine that was a very tastey Zin. If they try to tell you the side of mushrooms might be enough for two, they're lying - they're easily enough for 4 or more!

Well, as far as cheese and fruit plates go, this one is phenominal! I got almost full of the plate itself! So many kinds of cheese and a lot of it! The fruit was fresh and excellent. We had a wonderful bottle of Louis Latore Chardonnay, and it's one of the only places you can find it. The service was great and the specials - watch out! HUGE portions! I'll be eating leftovers for a week, but great for the price! The seats are covered with these cute little leopard print panels. It's hidden away, but I'm glad I found it.

we've been to erte for brunch, lunch and dinner and their brunch leaves the rest in the dust. as you sit down, they bring you a plate of banana bread with fresh whipped cream as a breakfast appetizer. the menu includes specials like pineapple-coconut pancakes with banana rum sauce or a "newport" crab cakes benedict. great food, very reasonable prices. and to top it off, a great piano man playing live music while you eat. we take all of our out of town guests here.

I've been there twice and was happy, although not ecstatic, both times. The decor is nice. Seating is all in one big room, which can be a little noisy. I had a steak both times and it was good. I don't like having to order sides separately, but that's how it works at Erte and a lot of other restaurants. The wine list was small but moderately priced and we found something we liked.

Ample parking, ecclectic decor, friendly service and hearty food are present here but beverage value is absent. The steaks were great (not excellent but better than all but about 4-5 places in town) and reasonably priced for the portion. The food is not overly fancy but there is evidence of some creativity and inspiration in the preparations. My biggest objection is to the heavily inflated and somewhat boring wine list. Mainly common mass producers (Beringer, Kendall Jackson, Ferrari Carano) are present but the markup is about 200-300% which seems insultingly exhorbitant for this small neighborhood place. ($9 for a glass of Rancho Zabaco Dancing Bull Zin? Come on, the entire bottle can be had at retail for $8.99!) I will visit again but would consider drinking beer instead. The wine pricing shows poor value and is a total turn-off.

Pros: Good Food, Live music on weekend, Good noise level

Cons: Highly Inflated Wines, Splitting Charges

On saturday I made reservations for four at 7:30 PM to celebrate my wife's birthday. Bad traffic due to multiple sporting events that evening put us behind schedule. We eventually arrived and checked in with the hostess at 7:46 PM. This is when the hostess informed us of the 15 minute policy. They only hold tables for fifteen minutes past your reservation tome. At that point I looked around to see the party that had recieved our table, but everyone was settles at their tables. It was obvious they had given our table away much sooner than the 15 minute buffer. At this point they didn't offer any alternatives or any simpathy for our situation. It was obvious they didn't want our business. We ended up enjoying a meal at another restaurant that evening and plan to never return to Erte.

hands down, one of the best steak houses in this city. i've been to ruth chris's and manny's and for the price, erte beats them all! service with a smile and then some - never felt so taken care of. great place for a group as well as a romantic spot for two. i give 'em a 10 on everything...

The entrees do not come with a side, so my date and I ordered 1 steak to share and 3 sides. There was a $5 split plate charge, and all that included was an extra empty plate. I understand that they have more to cover than the food, but $5 for an empty plate is ridiculous. And on top of that, the steak was below average and the mashed potatoes were dry.
I don't think I would go again.

Fantastic food every time we've gone. The "sangria chicken" is simply incredible. Definitely worth a trip up to this part of town. Service has been spot on every time we go -- no it's not a rush-rush job, but you can get that at McDonald's. This is a place where they let you relax and enjoy your meal. Thank goodness! I'd rather have friendly and considerate than rushed. Great wine list, although the staff should be more familiar with it.

Totally enjoyed going to Erte's. The prices are reasonable and we found the wait staff to be laid back but attentive. I had the chicken breast and it turned out to be wonderful. Next time, I would try the steak.
This place is fun - kinda funky chic.

We went to Erte for brunch. We had a special occasion and had a great time the last time so we suggested Erte. Most of us ordered benedict. Everyones eggs were cooked hard. No big deal, but we asked for new ones and received attitude back from the waitress. And these eggs took a long time to make. The wine list is okay lots of names to stand by. The atmosphere is nice if they have all the windows closed in the morning it feels like 10pm. I may try it again but never to impress friends.

I just vistied Erte for the second time to celebrate a special occasion. I was so impressed with it the first time, I chose it again to introduce all of my family to this little gem. The steak is better than Manny's at about 1/2 the price. The service is more than attentive, and the atmosphere is casual and fun. Forget Manny's, I'll keep coming back to Erte.

Last friday night, me and 9 of my friends went to Erte to celebrate a birthday. First off, the restaurant was packed, and our table was set up and waiting for us (which made me very happy)! 2ndly, we had the best server - she knew everything there was to know about the menu - made great suggestions for the table and we found her to be an absolute delight to have around - and boy oh boy was she around. Always checking on us, seeing what she could bring. IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN A BETTER EVENING!!!!

Oh boy. The waitress was never around. And by never, I mean never. Then, the menu said Halibut w/ Basil cream sauce on a bed of corn. My halibut came out in a pool of cream corn mess that was 1" deep. I was looking for a soup spoon to eat it, but it had no taste! I thought if I could wade through that to the fish I would be OK. Au contriare, the fish was rubbery. Yuck! When I explained to the waitress, she said, defensively, arms crossed, We're known for our fish! (Well, not really, I thought.) Then she says, I guess I will take something off the bill. This unexpected offer turned out to be $3. I took one bite of my food. ONE. It would take a very persuasive person to get me to go back. It was all around bad!

Cons: Terrible service, Misrepresented food, Day old ingredients

The house steak at Erte could go head to head with those of Manny's. Two nights before our visit to Erte we ate at Manny's, and surprisingly enough, we liked Erte better! The service was laid-back, not lacking, and the food simply can't be beat (nor can their prices)! We'll be back again and again. You've gotta try this place!

I brought friends visiting from out of town here last week, and we were all pleasantly surprised by this little northeast gem. We took our server's recommendations and tried both of the special halibuts and their house steak. The food was absolutely delightful. And their wine list was a great surprise to us as well. Service was cheery, knowledgeable and courteous, and everything was overall quite exceptional. The one problem we encountered was due to the size of the room, we had some trouble hearing one another. Other than the acoustics, our evening was a success! I'll be taking all of my friends there now.

Very disappointed with the service. We had to track people down to help us with drinks, to take our order, etc. The food was good, but the service was terrible. I will not go back because of the service.
