Singapore Restaurant

I usually dont spend the time to write reviews but Singapore is an amazing restaurant and I wanted to get the word out there. I get Asian take-out every day and have tried dozens of different restaurants, mostly authentic, around the Twin Cities. Singapore is definitely one of my top three for many reasons. All around, the food is incredibly good. The spices are by far the best in the Cities. The food is very fresh and top quality. Its very authentic. Not to mention almost everything on the menu is unique and something you cant get from any other restaurant. The flavors are complex, interesting, and really really good. The cook is incredibly friendly and a great pleasure to talk to. She knows me by name and knows what flavors I like the best. I always chat with the cook when I go to get take-out. The decor is unique, an enjoyable place to dine. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food you get. Its surprising that the restaurant is not more well-known but once the word gets out Im sure this will be a favorite of anybody who likes authentic Asian food.

We have been customers for over ten years (first at the Maplewood location and now at the Minneapolis Location) and the food has become our comfort food, spicy, fresh and delirious. The owner, chef and server is a pleasure to know and we feel like we are treated like family. We always bring friends whenever possible in the hopes they also become loyal customers as well. Out of town guests always want to return to Singapore when they visit us. Please treat yourself and also support a small local business instead of a chain sometime.

I have been to this place several times and every time I go the same friendly lady is always there to help. It turns out; she is the owner, top chef and usually the server! She could not be more welcoming and she is willing to make any dish you order to your exact specifications! It is a fusion style cooking, by her own admission, and the resulting dishes are fabulous. I have yet to eat a meal I did not thoroughly enjoy.

The restaurant is a little hard to find, it is in the middle of a neighborhood and is a little dark, but I think this just adds to the charm of this place. It kind of feels like going to a friendly neighbors house and having her cook you a wonderful meal thats been in her family for generations. I dont want to rave to much, the place does have problems. First, because the same lady does all the serving and cooking, it can take a while to get your order. Second, there is no alcohol served. This was kind of a bummer until I found out that it is perfectly ok to bring you own, the restaurant will even provide glasses for you!

Its a little bothersome that the last few times I have gone, it has been nearly empty, please do yourself a favor and try this wonderful restaurant. You will discover a dining experience that few people know about, and help patron a local business that definitely deserves your support.

I have eaten there now twice. I love the Curry. It is spicy (and I ask for it to be medium) and filling. The service is wonderful and fast. They give you food for three meals! The prices are a bit spendy (12 bucks for meal alone). But it is worth it!

PROS: Great food
CONS: pricey
