I laughed a little when I read the posts below mine. The owner of the post below is known as "Bob M" on another website to say good things about the House of Note (all lies) - clearly marks it untrustworthy. Without doubt, it is from people who work there. I, however, was an actual customer and this is an honest review that I have written to help you.

The reason that I am writing this review is for the TERRIBLE service that I have received at the House of Note located at Minneapolis, Minnesota. Not only was the older gentleman, as Maggie G below stated rude, he is also completely dishonest with the things that he says when you rent an instrument from him. Please go somewhere else if you do not want to be lied to! DO NOT GO TO HOUSE OF NOTE!!
First and foremost, the owner of this place is very unprofessional in the way that he connects with the customers. I strongly believe that the way that I was treated was not only unprofessional, but almost borderline racist with the way that he communicated with me. When I called the owner on the phone, he spoke to me as if he could not understand what I was saying, even though I had made a previous appointment. He asked me to repeat myself multiple times (even though I am an English language teacher) because he could not "understand" my non native accent. When I arrived at the shop, I asked the owner if he could help me find an instrument that is not too expensive. He decided to make fun of my family and I by stating the fact that all the cheaper instruments originated from Asian countries. Not only was it rude, but also disrespectful to a customer.
Secondly, he will OVERCHARGE you and LIE about the things that he has told you. He has told me that he has saved an instrument for me for a reasonable price. After I arrived at the store, he immediately told me that the instrument I have asked for is gone. Afterwards, he decided to charge me for a more expensive instrument. I persisted on asking him if the instrument that I wanted was still there and he denied it many, many times. The funny thing is that after fifteen minutes and seeing that I wasn't happy with the more expensive one, he suddenly pulled out an instrument and told me, "Oh, this was the instrument that you wanted." After that I had taken a closer look, I could tell that he was lying to me and that was NOT the one he had promised me before
If the older gentleman was the owner, I really hope that he will start to understand that it is NOT RIGHT to treat people this way! After he saw that my 60 year old mother had a little bit difficulty understanding English, he was very exasperated with her and rudely told me to translate what he said. I cannot believe that anyone could treat someone elderly this way.
There are so many other places that you can go, such as Quinn Violins in Minneapolis or Schmitt music if you do a little bit of research. I have never felt more verbally abused and mistreated in my life when paying for something. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO FEEL DISRESPECTED AND BELITTLED!

I have been a customer of The House of Note for 15+ years, and have only receive top rate service. Whether I am purchasing or getting my violin repaired, The House of Note has been there for me with courteous professional service. I have tried elsewhere, and now I only shop The House of Note.

As our family comes to the realization that our high schooler will never end up being a world class violinist, and that his years of playing will come to and end this June, we can not help but to reflect on and express or gratitude to the House of Note for all the help over the years. We started our relationship with a 1/16th and the customer service, knowledge and support from the staff there grew with us as our violin size grew. Whether it was a simple string replacement, a suzuki CD or the adjustment of a bridge, House of Note never let us down, thanks to you all for all of your help. You are the best!

My family stopped in to look at purchasing a new violin. We were willing to pay good money. However, an older man with gray hair who was helping us was consistently crabby with us. I understood later that he preferred appointments but we had already made the effort to drive in so he could have tried to have been more pleasant. Because of his poor customer service, we purchased a new violin outfit at Groth Music in Bloomington. Groth was more courteous/friendly and plus they had outstanding equipment and were knowledgeable. Groth likes talking to the customer. Groth even had a better selection of bows.

We drive across the metro area to go to house of note because we have been told they are great. However, one of the staff members is consistently crabby. Beware of the guy with the white hair. I'm thinking about going elsewhere just so I can be treated with the kindness every customer deserves.

This is a fantastic violin shop. Staff is knowledgable and honest. They fixed my violin and it has never sounded better. The shop worked one-on-one with me to make sure it sounded exactly how I like it. I'm not taking my violin anywhere else!

I took my 6 figure violin in for routine maintenance and it came back better than ever! The staff is exceedingly knowledgeable. I have had several students purchase instruments that are outstanding in both tone and value. I purchased a fine old French bow for myself and couldn't be more pleased. I would recommend this shop to anyone. I know that many of the professionals in the area exclusively take their instruments and bows to this shop. This is truly a world class violin shop!

The violins here would definitely not cut it for any advanced player. THey look nice and shiny but the sound is awful. This is more of a place for beginners, they have good rentals there. Some of the more expensive ones are mediocre but not of rthe price.

PROS: good rental
CONS: soso instruments, baaad price

this is a good place to rent a violin. The violins there are average. Definitely playable. I would buy from a private dealer if you want a better one though. I recomend this place to amateur violinists.
