Eli's is a well kept secret. The atmosphere is always sensational and the food is always great. My favorites the Stuffed Chicken Breast, Penne and Cheese and the CRAB CAKES!!!!! The crab cakes are the best I've had north of New Orleans.

This bartender needs some serious anger management control. Don't dare to express an opinion or engage with him in any way. He is moody, unpredictable, confrontational, and downright hostile. My girlfriend and I were sitting at the bar

The service has always been okay until recently. Had a friend visiting from out of town, arrived at Eli's he was totally starving. It was busy and there were three tables connected for a six person table with two young ladies. The server would not let us sit beside them but said we could have their table when they left. We ordered drinks at the bar, the ladies left and the server was no where to be found. So we got up and went to the table, the owner came out and said we couldn't sit there because it was a table for six, we tried to explain that the server offered it, the owner was really rude and denied us the table. We had already ordered drinks and weren't finished and he asked us to leave - he said we were being difficult. I think my friend showed some irritation in his voice but wasn't using foul language or yelling. It was the worse experience ever. Here's the kicker: I had been a regular and gone at least (minimum) of twice a week for at least a year - and introduced several people to the place. How disappointing.

I LOVE the food...

I've tried several things on their menu and I've enjoyed all of it. Having weekly specials is a fun bonus to this place and keeps me coming back :) Its all so delish!!

Its definitely casual and cozy.

I know I read a few things on them having poor service, I guess Ive been fortunate to have great wait staff! Hit and miss I suppose.

I haven't been here for a while, but the last time I was the place was clean and the wait staff well above average. The biggest problem with the place is parking. On the street or in a lot you'll have to pay. When I've been there it is was quieter (noise wise) than most bars.

The food is still delicious here; however, it is sllllooooowwwww, SO slow! Also, the service has definitely gone downhill. When the food is taking that long, the service needs to be top notch. I did not see my server for a long time. Then when i said that i needed my food boxed to go, she gave me attitude. Go for the food (I could care less about service which only reflects in tipping) and don't have anywhere to go to immediately afterward.

Eli's is a wonderful neighborhood bar and restaurant. It is casual and reasonably priced, while the food is always fresh and delicious. They have both basic fare and some interesting items. My husband's favorite is the beef sandwich, it is wonderful. I love the pastas & salads, they have some on their menu and great weekly specials. The service is always friendly and attentive. They have a full bar, with a nice wine and beer selection too. I am fortunate it is close to home, it is a perfect spot for a casual, but good dinner, or for take out.

I have been to Elis several times over the past two years. Overall, I have always enjoyed the food there. Their sloppy joes and hamburgers are very good. However, I have been disappointed on a few occasions by the poor service: order food and not have the wait staff check in with us as we wait, having to wait for 45 minutes or more, and then being yelled at because we asked for another drink. At first I dismissed it due to the large crowds. My friends were not so willing to agree. But I kept going back.

That all changed recently. I went with a friend of mine to enjoy dinner. It was a Wednesday night and the place was rather full when we got there. A few tables were still open and some people were leaving. Not too concerned, we ordered our food. After 20 minutes of waiting we informed by the waitress that the salad we ordered could not be made as they did not have the lettuce. Finding it strange that it took 20 minutes to figure that out, we became concerned. I insisted we stay.

An hour later I was no longer amused. We had not received our food, the waitress wouldn't even acknowledge our table, and it really was obvious that no one cared. We decided to leave as we couldn't handle being ignored or not receiving our food. As we stood, the waitress finally noticed us and asked, with a shocked look on our face, why we were leaving. Upon being told that it was well over an hour that we had to wait, she did nothing to encourage our staying.

This was a real disappointment for me. I truly did enjoy the place and the food. But I don't think I will ever go back there after having this happen. I would be much more willing if the staff actually made an attempt to acknowledge the wait.

Pros: Good Food

Cons: Bad service

The food at Eli's is always amazing and I enjoy the new specials that come out every week; it really helps to add variety to an already awesome menu. The service has always been exceptional and unlike the previous poster I recommend it any night of the week (even Monday nights) just realize that when its busy its busy and it can get quite busy at times. I have also been impressed with the music selection that I have heard. It ranges from jazz during dinner to hip-hop and rock late at night it's, always good. This place offers anything for any mood you are in, casual or fine dining they have you covered, I highly recommend it.

Food is always good. Service depends on the night. Avoid Mondays. Need to recruit staff who understand and know how to relate to neighborhood regulars.

This quaint little bar in downtown Minneapolis never disappoints. The prices are great, staff is friendly, and bartenders generous! I wouldn't hesitate to head here for a date night with my husband or a girls night out. It's a tight space and it fills up quickly. Whenever I go here I feel like I'm in Boston. The atmosphere is wonderful!

This place is awesome and a must go to in my opinion. These type of places are hard to find - nice, quaint pub with great food and great service. I had a pizza to die for. It's cozy, fun place to catch up with someone over drinks and apps. I have never been dissapointed going here - be sure to check it out! enjoy!

This is hands down one of my favorite bars in the Minneapolis area. The servers are friendly and quick and it is definitley one of those places "where everyone knows your name." The food is tasty and the ambiance is cozy. One reviewer mentioned that it can be either completely dead or hopping busy and that is true. Lately, I have noticed more and more nights where it is swamped. Good thing cuz I want to keep this place around.

A friend and I tried Eli's on the recommendation of a co-worker. Boy, we were pleasantly surprised. He desribed it as a 'local watering hole.' We thought - in Downtown Mpls - no way. We were wrong. Not only was one of the co-owners (at least that's my understanding as to what he was) helpful and courteous, but the rest of the service was top notch! The food, not that we could pick one thing to have, was exceptional at a very reasonable price. Don't rag on me - I don't care much for most downtown prices and locations - but this is one of the best out there. HIGHLY recommended!

This place has exceptional food at a very reasonable price and the fact that they serve VERY late is a huge bonus. It also has great ambiance but it is a bar so if you need to feel like you're eating in a swanky, ultra-pristine place the Chambers Kitchen is right down the street. Meet me after and we'll compare checks...

Pros: Excellent menu & value especially the 1/2 plates

With weekly specials and the regular menu they have just about anything for anyone. The filet on the menu with a truffled mushroom ragout and horsradish mashed potatoes is only $22, better than any 8oz filet I have at any of the three M's. The bartenders have a strong pour too!

Looking for good food at a decent price in a relaxed atmosphere, Eli's is the place to go to (or one of them.) I read the reviews on citysearch and do not agree with the negative ones IN THE SLIGHTEST. While the ambiance is typical of an older, dark bar, the food is quite fantastic actually. Weekly specials on the wall all tend to be excellent. The hot dogs are always a good choice, the lobster chowder is wonderful, the turkey and asparagus sandwhich healthy and tasty, and the ravioli (squash, walnuts, gorgonzola) is an endulgement worth the calories. The service is just fine here. My experience have been positive. They get you what you want in a timely fashion. If you're looking for white table linens, beverages in crystal, servers with serving assistants, this is not the place for you.

I've only been there for lunch and the chicken/asparagus sandwich is quite nice really. My co-workers love the dogs, so I tried them and they were pretty so-so. The bun was dry, the toppings minimal, and it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Mainly, the service is unattentive and both the waitstaff and kitchen are impossibly slow. Last time we were there, it took 50 minutes to get our food. You might think it was because the place was packed, but that was not the case. We were 5 of around 12 people in the whole joint. The steak fries, which are usually a high point, were greasy soppy messes and the rationale was that their "fryer is too small to make that many at one time." Uh, get a bigger fryer or take them off the menu if you can't accommodate three orders at a time.

we wandered in after having had a couple drinks elsewhere, and i wish we woulda started out here! The menu was to die for (but we had already eaten) and they really know how to mix a drink here: whew! There is also an incredible wine by the glass list and at very reasonable rates. Great place to just sit back and relax!

Eli's could become your place. It's a spot where the bartender looks up when you come in---and if he knows you, your drink will be ready by the time you sit down. Quiz them about their extensive selection of scotch and bourbons, and…
