The BBQ chicken dark meat is good, but the white meat tends to be dry. Also, make sure to ask them not to burn the skin, as they tend to blacken the BBQ chicken. They are friendly. We like the BBQ sauce.

It's a pretty no frills place. The wait staff doesn't pretend they think you are the most exciting individual on earth. Seat yourself. They'll get to you in a reasonable amount of time. The selection is limited. (To me that's a good

I love the breakfast, it is one of my favorite morning places to go and be lazy. We eat, read the paper and hang out. There is a great patio in the summer.

The only thing is that I am afraid of one of the servers. I am on egg shells around her, I kind of feel like it is "no soup for you" from Seinfeld when we go. It is a joke for my husband and I and we try to be really nice and not ask for anything extra and that seems to keep the anger at bay from the server.

I love the pancakes and they a mexican breakfast thing that is great too!

My husband & I used to go to Caps quite frequently for their weekend breakfast. The food is pretty yummy & it is right in our neighborhood. We went there today withour 15 mo. old daughter only to discover that they DONT HAVE HIGHCHAIRS! I am really suprised/disappointed that a neighborhood restaurant would go out of its way to be unfriendly to kids. We won't be going back anytime soon - I would rather trek it Longfellow Grill.

We eat at Caps fairly often as we live in the neighborhood. Some of the best breakfast around..... Can't say a lot about their lunch or dinner as one of us is a vegetarian and they don't have anything other than a side salad. Would be great if they could have some veggie burgers in the freezer. The non vegetarian one of us has had the BBQ and found it quite delicious. One last thing, coffee is bad. So have your coffee before you go for a great breakfast.

I am not a restaurant critic nor do I pretend to be, but when there is BBQ this bad you have to let other people know about it. Maybe this place was "good" back in the day but it is not what these others who gave it "5 stars" want you to believe, just look at their history of reviewing other restaurants, they only reviewed this one place and no others!!!! I am just saying it looks a little fishy. I went there because of all the "great reviews" but was sadly disappointed!!!!! The BBQ was tough and the service was mediocre.

Pros: Nice drive to the restaurant

Cons: Poor excuse for BBQ

I am hardly able to eat breakfast anywhere else due to holding up to Cap's standard of hearty portions and mouth-watering goodness. I've tried nearly everything on the weekend breakfast menu over the years and have ALWAYS been pleased.

Some reviews are not impressed with Cap's BBQ - perhaps they don't know what BBQ is? Cap's uses the best cuts of meat and transforms it into pure taste. It's incredible! The pork stacker is my personal favorite and I have their bottle of BBQ sauce in my fridge.

I recommend this "Mom & Pop" place to everyone!!

IT IS A SMALL PLACE FOR SURE, BUT THAT ADDS TO ITS AMBIENCE.
THE FOOD IS GREAT, WHETHER IT IS BREAKFAST OR LUNCH.
THE SERVICE IS OK, FRIENDLY ENOUGH.
THE BBQ SANDWICHES AND BURGERS ARE GREAT.
THE BREAKFAST MEALS ARE BIG AND HEARTY AND ARE DELIGHTFULLY UNIQUE.
THE PORK SANDWICH WITH EXTRA SAUCE AND THE COLESLAW ON THE TOP IS THE BEST.
THE BURGERS ARE GOOD WITH THE CAJUN BURGER BEING MY FAVORITE.
PRICES ARE REASONABLY, SERVICE OK AND LOCATION VERY ACCESSIBLE.
PARKING AND SEATING IS LIMITED SO KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN YOU ARE GOING THERE!!
ENJOY, I KNOW I DID!!

My husband I tried this place 7 years ago and didn't think it was all that great like City Pages said so. My husband and I thought we'd give this place a second chance. We were in the mood for BBQ and we love Famous Dave's but we really didn't want to spend Famous Dave's prices. I ordered their famous beef brisket sandwich, on the menu they rave that it is smoked and slow cooked for 12 hours, it was like shoe leather but worse!!! Thank God my husband ordered a hamburger; he was nice enough to split it with me. The hamburger and the service wasn't much better, sure the pretty girls are nice to look at but lacked in their waitressing skills. I do not recommend this place at all, unless you want a shoe leather BBQ sandwich or an average hamburger and mediocre service.

We were delighted by Cap's when we made our first visit the week we moved into the neighborhood. If you want somewhere to go that's just EASY, flavorful, with down-home style, no nonsense, food, this is it. My husband and I like having a place we can show up in jeans and feel completely at home. We love their burgers and bbq pulled sandwiches, good onion rings and fries and I even had a good tossed salad with chicken here once. Their weekend breakfasts are awesome, too. The staff has always been very friendly and responsive with us. We go there atleast monthly. My only complaint on the weekend breakfast was the fat-free creamer (I prefer regular half/half). Also don't care for the metal skillets they serve some food on, since they slide around on the table. (My husband orders his food on a normal plate) Other than that, Cap's is AWESOME!!

My Mom and I just ate at Caps tonight. We really drove out of our way to get there (from Coon Rapids).
I love BBQ and thought that the MPLS/ST. PAUL magazine gave it good reviews.

The SPARE-RIBS WERE SKIMPY ON THE MEAT, DRY AND BURNT-TALK ABOUT BLACK CARCINOGENS. The STEAK FRIES were almost room temperature and the COUNTRY STYLE RIBS WERE SO UNAPPETIZINGLY TOUGH. THE PORK CHOP WAS TOUGH AS WELL. THE SAUCE WAS VERY DELICIOUS AND TANGY-THE BEST PART OF THE MEAL.

When I suggested getting the chicken instead of the country style ribs and that the pork chop was tough the waitress was seemingly polite and agreeable. The order was changed and the chicken was good , but the pork chop was still tough.

When paying for the check I spoke with a 30-something manager about my food and asked why the check was not adjusted to show that I did not eat the country style ribs-he was argumentative and suggested that the prices were very similar. I continued to press for the price adjutsment and he reluctantly changed the price to reflect that I had only ordered the chicken. Give me a break- why did he even bother to being difficult. I was almost willing to come back for the chicken and then I mentioned the write up in MPLS/ST PAUL MAG and the manager started touting "HOW GREAT WE ARE_SO MANY ACCOLADES_SO MANY REPEAT CUSTOMERS"---as if to say-WE DON"T NEED YOUR SERVICE. I will not go back-the sauce and the chicken were not that great.

This is NOT a smokehouse, it's a grill. That said I had the ribs & chicken. Both had a little too much "crust" from the grill on them for my taste which overpowered the flavor of the food with that charcoal taste. The chicken was a little dry but other than that, it was good GRILLED food, not what I would call smoked or smokehouse style BBQ. The beans were OK, the potato salad was good. It's not really fair to rate their food on a BBQ scale as it's more "backyard BBQ" style, but here's my best attempt out of 10.
Ribs: 6
Chicken: 5.5
Potato Salad: 7
Beans: 4
I had a pleasant experience with the staff and didn't experience any of the negative comments that I read prior to going there. The place was clean and everyone seemed friendly. It's also right off the Light Rail, so doable from downtown if you have some extra time.

I went with 9 co-workers to eat and let me tell you the food was great (no complains here), we order ribs, burgers, salads and everything was delicious. The drinks kept coming and the food was hot, that I loved. Best ribs ever!! if you want tender, dellicious, ribs better then Famous Dave this is the place to go!! We were greeted at the door, the waitresses very nice and polite. I liked so much, I took my son for breakfast

After an enjoyable couple of hours at Minnehaha Falls with my seven year old daughter, we decided to get lunch at Cap's. What a mistake that was!

When paying, I said politely to the manager that we may come back more often if there were some childrens items on the menu. The owner of the place overheard my polite suggestion, and started attacking me in a loud, rude manner saying that they are not going to have childrens items ever, that they had been in business for 28 years and have never had a need for a childrens menu and they are doing just fine without one, sorry that didn't work for you (said snottily), not enough room in the kitchen to do them, plus the dining room is really too crowded for kids!

I will never go back, with or without my children. Plus my ribs were burnt.

I live close to Cap's so have been going there for years. Service is generally great but there's usually only a couple of wait staff so busy days can be a bit hectic. The cooks take real pride in their work. I find most of their other food better than their ribs, but I'm not a big ribs fan. Try their Cap's special cheeseburger with their bar-b-q sauce. Tell them how you want your meat and it will be cooked that way, whether steak or sandwich. Their pork chops are wonderful, too. Get their take-out bar-b-q sauce. It's great to cook with.

A group of us (11) took the new LRT from Mpls to Cap's for lunch. Not one of us had been before. All of us would return again. We might have caught them off guard for it is not a large place, but they were happy to accommodate our group. Though we needed to split up. Not a problem. The food was great. They totaled each meal for us. I cant wait to go back. P.S. I ordered the Country-Style ribs and chicken and had plenty of sauce. I cant imagine how much sauce these other posters needed. We almost didnt go because of the comments.
