Toivola Brian E Dvm - Mesaba Animal Hospital

I'm only thirteen years old but as long as me and my family have had animals we have always made sure that they went to this clinic. just last year my cat, needed emergency surgery on a Saturday and this remarkable vet, Dr. Toivola, made sure that my cat pulled through. my cat is currently living a happy and healthy life thanks to Dr.Toivola. After being an animal lover for as long as i can remember, i am positive that i want to become a veterinarian when i am older no matter how many years of school that may take. i highly recommend this fantastic clinic to any animal lover out there!!

We brought our Alaskan Malamute to Dr. Toivola the summer of 2003. She had a very deadly disease, Parvovirus, she was near death at the time. She couldn't get up or move, not even lift her head. She was rushed to the vet and he put her on an IV and treated her. She was there for about a week and she is still with us today, happy and VERY healthy. They let us (including the kids) go see her whenever we wanted. They were very compassionate and caring towards her. Very professional staff!

We took our pets to Dr. Toivola for almost 10 years. We moved out of town and that is the only reason we don't use his services anymore. During our time in Hibbing I brought him a Golden Retriever with puppy strangles. She was near death and he brought her back. I brought him a dog with Blastomicosis, a deadly fungal pneumonia, he cured him and he is still alive 7 years later. Then we brought him a kitten with a broken femur. He did delicate surgery on that tiny animal, installing a pin in her leg. She survived the procedure and has gone on to live a long life of health and no leg troubles. Those are just dramatic highlights, they also served us well with preventative medicine. The only animal we "lost" was a tiny Golden Retriever puppy who was born with a fatal liver disease. They went to Herculean lengths to save that little dog. It just wasn't meant to be. He died quietly and in no pain thanks to Dr. Toivola. Everyone was compassionate and polite. They were also very kind when one of our dogs was hit by a car and killed. They cremated his body for us and buried his ashes on some farm land that the doctor owns. These are good people and Dr. Toivola has so many years of experience that I would trust them with any animal at any time.

Our family has brought our pets to Dr. Toivola at Mesaba Animal Hospital in Hibbing for over 20 years. Even though I live in Minneapolis now and have a lot of veterinarians to choose from, I prefer to drive 200 miles to bring my dog to Mesaba Animal Hospital for routine care as well as other services (such as repair of a torn ACL). Dr. Toivola and his staff are friendly and kind and the care and service we have received is incredible.

I've been taking my animals, large and small to this facility since the early 80's and have had very good care for all of them. Most of the staff has been there for many years and are very helpful and knowledgeable with all of the patients that walk through the door. Sure there are some things that are beyond their control, but that would be the case with any vet.

I would not recommend this animal hospital to anyone. We took our baby goat there, as they are the only animal hospital in the area to work on farm animals. They did not do a very good job with our goat and he died. Instead of calling us and letting us know, we drove over there intending to pick up our little goat and be happy. Sad, sad day.........we came out with a dead goat and not even an "i'm sorry" for you loss from the vet or secretary. Not very good with service, or compassion.
