Our family LOVES the Shanghai Market on Como. Finding sea vegetables to add to our food, is difficult. Now we have the perfect store, with knowledgable people, who can answer all our questions.
For dessert, try the Leechee nut jelly in the puff balls; steam them first, they are great!!!

This may be the most authentic Chinese-style Asian market in town, as opposed to the plethora of Southeast Asian-oriented markets. It's the only place I know that carries Shanxi (and now Baoning) vinegars along with the much commoner Zhenjiang rice vinegar, for instance. Actually, it's the only place I know in the _US_ that carries those! Its soy and sauce collection is also impressive, though its produce is somewhat lacking. Those looking for authentic Chinese products would appreciate this place! The owners are happy to chat in Chinese, as they often are with various customers as you are shopping. I wish it were a bit bigger and had a few more of the things I miss from the Chinese supermarkets.

Pros: Has some things nobody else has
Cons: Smallish, produce a bit lacking

This place is pretty shoddy. The selection is pretty good, though not as extensive as United noodle. The sotre is kinda of dirty and the veggies are not always so fresh. The reason I come here is because of the cheap pricing. I would recomend this place for people that don't want to drive all the way to United noodle or are looking for a better deal.

The Shanghai Market is located on Como Avenue just off of Snelling as you head towards Roseville.

It's a small store, crowded and it has an odor to it.

They sell SOME standard American pantry/staple items and a lot of Asian veggies and foods. They also sell things like cigarettes and international phone cards.

I could never understand why, but on Sundays, the Shanghai Market was FULL of people. These were mainly people getting fresh veggies.

This is a family owned business and often Grandma could be seen in the back. One or two of the counter staff could speak English fairly well. They are a plesant bunch of people and worked VERY hard.

PROS: none
CONS: none
