Oak Street Cinema is often popular among the art crowd and college age students. Often students and/or amateur movie makers will bring in an indie movie of theirs for the public to see. It is a great opportunity for the young film makers, or just a great place to hangout. College kids get a discount!

PROS: unique movies, college discount

One of my favorite Minneapolis memories is seeing To Catch A Thief revived for a very appreciative crowd at Oak St. The place usually fills up, even for obscure imports and classics you thought no one else loved. Just make sure you see a comedy, as a stuffed house detracts from brooding philosophical films or Dogme 95 subtitles. Their upcoming attractions booklet is awesome!

Operated by Minnesota Film arts, the Oak Street Cinema presents the most eclectic cinematic fair in town. From Samurai films to Modern Swedish cinema, if you are interested in real film, find your way to Oak Street.

Oak Street Cinema is one of the major locations for the International Film Fest every spring. If you are picky about sound or projection quality, consider the Lagoon or the Riverview during the fest. The Oak Street is a gently sloping theater. During crowded showings, it can be difficult to see subtitles through the head in front of you.

Concessions are good. If you are student at the U, bring your ID for a discount. The Oak Street provides comprehensive printed schedules outside the box office. Make sure to pick one up.
