They've got one of the best spicy bloody mary's that I've had.
The Happy Hour deals are great
The service is prompt and friendly.
There's not enough parking, but of course that's Minneapolis.
Right next to Loring Park.

The food was pretty good but I have had better. The seating area is somewhat good if you can't get the patio of course. I wanted a nice night out to relax but here it seems like your just straight rushed. You can't even sit down before they are asking for your order then they want you to get everything at once. The food and patio sort of make up for this but I don't know.... Mike doesn't really care for the place so I doubt we will be back soon.

For Father's Day we decided, hey let's go to Joe's G, we were seated right away and then we met Miss
Crabby upstairs on the patio. She pointed at our sunny table while there were 10 in the shaded area. She couldn't use her words. 20 minutes went by as did our impersonable server. She seemed reluctant to recognize us... Too bad, the food was delicious....We mentioned this to the Mgr and he was lovely. We haven't yet decided if we will return, the view the great.

The manager asked us to leave so he could turn over the table after we had several appetizers, dinner and drinks. We were there for 2.25 hours with a group of friends for a special night. Needless to say, we will not be returning. We are encouraging our friends to avoid this restaurant as well. Very disappointed.

Pros: nice location

Cons: manager does not know how to keep business

The food was bland, the environment dirty especially the bathrooms-ICK and the owner/snob JOE was just as rude as can be. It's amazing this place is still around with an attitude like that running the place. I won't be back. Better service at pizza hut

Joe's has a funky, industrial feel to it, but it's still comfortable and a great place to spend your Sunday morning. Their brunch is an all-you-can-eat affair that they bring to your table, family-style. It is outstanding and very reasonably priced!

We went on a Saturday evening and thankfully had made a reservation, so were seated promptly. However, a friend of mine happened to be there who had not and waited for an hour to be seated. So, definitely make reservations.
I enjoyed the seating we had a view of both the Bascilica and Loring Park. the drinks were good as well. We had an appetizer of grilled shrimp which was also well prepared. However, neither my husband nor i enjoyed our dinners. I had the lamb meatballs and my husband had the walleye. Mine was dry and he said his lacked flavour, even though his came with chipotle sauce.
The service was fine, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The restrooms definitely need to be improved, it was worse than what i would expect in a truck stop.

the location is excellent, after a nice filling meal one can walk around the quaint loring park on a nice afternoon and take a nap on the lush greens, exactly what we did! :) the church bells in the background and the gorgeous view from their patio seating just did it for us.
the menu is eclectic with a good variety for vegetarians. we had the thai red curry risoto, which was so yummy! the falafel wrap was ok, i have had much better elsewhere. definitely want to go back and try the appetizers and the rooftop.

I've never eaten anything at Joe's that I didn't like. My faves: french fries served with basil aioli; cream cheese egg rolls; teryaki chicken wings; mashed potatoes with brocolli, mock duck and spicy curry red pepper sauce; all the burgers; spicy red curry risotto. Daily soups are also often good. Service is sometimes a little too casual (spacey servers), but the bartenders are always awesome. Good happy hour deals on wine & apps. Roof top patio is one of the best places for summer evening drinks, and they recently added a late-night happy hour up there too!

Full of pretentious hipsters and uptight business-types who want to appear "in" with this awful crowd, Joe's Garage is nothing but an overpriced, low quality alternative to the Mission. The menu is ok, but the recently revamped items and additions are a little too "eclectic" for even my tastes, and I pretty much eat ANYTHING. The mac and cheese is dull and uninspired, definitely not Wisconsin-style, as the menu claims, and the "quesadilla" lacks in texture without making up for it in taste at all.

The bathrooms are disgusting on the bar side, and on the restaurant side there's nothing but a handwritten piece of paper to indicate the women's room... the women's room with a capacity of ONE!? What kind of bar has ONE women's room with no stalls?! And it's in the back of the restaurant in what seems to be a staff-only area... not very welcoming.

Cocktails - not bad, but again overpriced for the quality.

The wait staff is ok, timely but not altogether friendly... especially "Joe" (is that his real name?) the owner. A short, grey-haired man brought our food and treated our waitress terribly, then I overheard him talking about one of the cooks... not very professionally. I'm guessing that's where all the other service complaints I've been hearing of are coming from. He doesn't seem to care much about the staff, just what they do for him. In the case of that particular day, he simply spent all the time while not delivering food to tables bitching about something or another and inspecting/picking at food on plates ready to be delivered to tables. Gross.

Desserts are predictable and probably pre-made (I'm sure I've had that same cheesecake before, with the signature crust swirl in the bottom) and their appearance seems to range from near-disgusting to extravagant... I guess it depends on who's working or something.

I'd almost rather go to the View; if there weren't even more posers there.

My advice: if forced to go, smoke first.

I had made reservations for 10 at Joe's Garage for my husband's birthday. Our waitress was the most "impersonable" person I have ever met, the service was terrible and then we were asked to "quiet down" on top of it. What happened to "Groups Welcome - Yes" . Should read on the website "Groups Welcome - Absolutely Not"!!!!! To top it off when asked to see the Manager his comment was, "Too bad, quiet down". Great Customer Service!!! The kind I would like to receive at EVERY restaurant we frequent!

Good job guys - keep up the BAD WORK!!!!! DEFINITELY NOT a restaurant I will recommend to friends and/ or relatives.

I dined at Joe's Garage recently with several friends. The Jambalaya Risotto was my entree choice. It was basically a Spanish Rice, and, for the price, I deeply regretted having ordered this item. The variety of rice used was most definitely not one recommended for a risotto, and appeared more like a typical medium to long grain white rice, had no substance or texture other than "soft". Scattered items of sausage / chicken / etc. A disappointing meal. The person next to me ordered macaroni and cheese. He described it as "devoid of flavor" and added copious amounts of salt to give it some taste. Generally, the food appeared to be not worthy of the reputation I'd heard of or read as typical of Joe's Garage. The Servers were great ... kept out water filled ... were attentive ... very good. The decor was fun ... parking wasn't. Would I go again? No, not for a meal. We did not order dessert, but saw some being delivered to nearby tables ... those looked good. Had a very fine Gin & Tonic from the bar.

With 5 locations this one is definitely the best. A group of the guys went out for the evening here and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is modern and trendy, huge seating, fun all around. Great service and employees. The food was hearty and unique- Not just another burger joint!Very classy-a great place to start a night out or for a special evening.

On my last visitto Joe's, a fair amount of time passed before our server came over to take our order. When I asked what kind of sodas they had she sighed heavily, said she didn't know but that we could go inside and look at the counter since these were not listed on the menu. I asked her to bring whatever kind of soda they had. She came back and literally slammed it down on the table in front of me. I ordered the mashed potatoes with chicked and gravy, which arrived with no gravy. Although, I would like to like Joe's since the burgers are great and it's in our neighborhood, the only acceptable level of service I've ever received there was at the bar. I haven't been back since and I don't plan to go back ever again.

This restaurant is located righ up from Loring Park, which is itself worth a trip to visit. The restaurant is very trendy and hip, and caters to a younger crowd. They serve American cuisine but do so with international twists. Instead of getting a grilled cheese, they add some unusual cheeses and fillings and make them their own signature pieces. The price is very reasonable.

Joe's Garage used to be one of my favorite places to go. In the last year the food quality and service has been horrible. I just went there for brunch and the menu was quite limited. Even at noon they don't offer an expanded menu. I was dissapointed and so were the many people at surrounding tables that were asking for a real menu. The food was just that. Food. Nothing spectacular. The service was ok at best. They screwed up the order of the table next to us and took so long to bring out a replacement meal that the rest of the table was done when that person got served.
Skip this place until they can get it together again.

It wasn't busy inside, but the server took a 1/2 hour to take our drink orders. She did have time to come to our table 3 times to say "I'm too busy to take your drink orders now." We finally ordered, only to sit there another half hour waiting... finally we were told our orders never got put in, so it would be "a few more minutes."
When we got our food, of the 6 meals ordered:
-2 had obviously been sitting out (1 should've been hot, but was cold, and another should've been cold, but was warm)
-1 was forgotten
-3 were not what was ordered
We waited again for the correct orders. Didn't even get clean plates, we could see remnants of the old food still on the plates when they were brought back.

We were all disappointed & expected a lot more of this place.

Joe Kaplan runs a dependable and enjoyable little restaurant that is truly unique. There is no place else like Joe's. During fringe festival we had a large table that included 16, 20, 70 and 80-year old guests, and the place was hoppiing busy. Our entire party had great food and a grand time. The elders were as pleased as the younger folks, who happened to be vegetarians. I have only been to Joe's once or twice that I haven't seen him working (not overseeing, but really working) alongside his energetic staff. The patio is exceptional. The food is inventive and tasty. (My mom's mashed potatoes aren't even quite this good. And she agreed--she was the 80-year old.) A good example of an independent business well-run.

Joe's was one of my favorite summer-time places. The food has always been mediocre but at least there was a great patio. That is why I recommended it when friends were coming from Europe to visit. MISTAKE! I made reservations over a week in advance and even confirmed them 2-days in advance yet when we got to Joe's we were told that they decided to bump us because they were able to get a larger group. UNACCEPTABLE! They did not even call despite having my number. The table offered to us was a crappy little number in the doorway where everyone was waiting in line. When I objected, the hostess told us her manager said we could have 50% only IF we complained. Why should one have to raise a fuss to get something? Thankfully LaCurat was just down the block. I will never trust Joe's again!

Joe's was the first place I ate when I moved to Minneapolis, I was very impressed. The burgers are very good, especially the pork. The small menu offers great taste. The patio has to rank as one of the best in Minneapolis.

I remember when Joe's Garage was a hip neighborhood burger joint. The last time I went it was post construction of the new addition. Apparently they have gotten bigger not better. We (a party of 2 women) were greeted with a one minute finger from the headset clad host who apparently was listening to something that prevented him from speaking to us. We waited for 10 minutes and were only seated after a group of 4 were seated ahead of us. We were finally seated in the sun next to two empty tables with umbrellas. We tried to flag down a server. But after 15 minutes and 3 servers looking right through us we walked out. The worst part was that the once famous burgers that I loved had been relegated to a couple burger choices in the bottom corner of the menu.

The rooftop patio is wonderful during the summer. It would be great if they put as much work (and depth) in the food menu as in the martini menu. The food isn't bad, but I never seem to find something that I really want to have when I'm there and always end up settling on something that is fine, but not memorable. Service is a tad below average. My advice ... if you have to wait to get a table, move on as it's not worth the wait.

Joe's is a nice little neighborhood spot to have a decent meal. Nothing fancy, but more than just comfort food. The menu has some unique items (lamb meatballs, lamb or pork hamburgers) but nothing really so far out that the names are not recognized. The food quality and taste are above average, about on par with the prices. Nothing terribly outlandish. The ice cream sandwich for dessert is a $5 bargain. 2 big limitations here are the limited and uninspired wine list and the crappy parking options. A pay lot and the meters aren't so bad but many of the meters are rudely (and I also think illegally) taken up by the $6 valet service from the Lurcat Restaurant down the street. Dinner here was nice but Sunday brunch in nice weather on the roof is really the best this place has to offer.

Really, it's true! The food (burgers especially) is great, the service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was tops! (They even have an fashioned car parked inside, for that garage style feeling) Bring the kids, it's fun!

Pros: Inexpensive, Good burgers

.

Simply put, it is overrated. Limited menu. Tried the "award winning" pork burger, was average, if anything it was disapointing for the price. Pasta entree was uninteresting and the portion small. Staff was alright, fairly slow and maybe a few thinking they are a touch to cool for the room. Atmosphere is nice, the roof top deck is great. Bathrooms were a biohazard, come on--clean bathrooms is a simple enough thing you morons. Maybe that is part of the "charm". This is one of those places people go to feel hip and apparently have some trouble admitting that most crappy corporate chains can make a better burger with good service and clean bathrooms!

Cons: Food, Price, Dirty Bathrooms

I have only ate at Joes two times, the first time was about 4 years ago. I am not from the area but we stumbled across this place and it was fantastic. Not only was the food good but the view was awsome. I finally got to go back this past year it was raining so we didn't sit outside but the food was even better than the last time. I would say this is my favorite place to eat.

I had heard many bad things about Joe's, but decided to try it for myself. The place was fantastic. The service was great. We sat on the rooftop, and unfortunately, it started raining. We had to find our own seats anywhere, but our waiter was kind enough to find us and serve us for the rest of the night. My order was mixed up, but it was fixed and I had a free lunch to take to work the next day! Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere, fantastic service...WOW!!

The menu was new, since my last visit--and the food was much improved. The patio was awesome for evening dining. The service was slow, unfortunately.

I am a regular at Joe's Garage and I just read some of the other reviews and was shocked to see such negativity. Here are my suggestions for having a great time at Joes.
1. If you want to sit on the roof - make a reservation a few days before, if you want to go on the spur of the moment - realize there could be a wait.
2. Come prepared to relax - spend time, enjoy the view and have some drinks - if your in a rush maybe choose another night.
3. Be experimental - give everything a try.
4. Check your attitude at the door - Joes is a laid back place to have an enjoyable evening and go with the flow.

A friend and I met at Joe's for a drink and dinner after work on a Wednesday night. The tables were set up outside on the sidewalk and as a former hostess, I know never to just "sit down" without permission. I went inside and the hostess said "pick any table you like". We happily sat down and about ten minutes later the waitress finally showed up, screaming that this table was reserved and why did we just seat ourselves? I was very offended as were the diners around me. Perhaps the staff should communicate with each other? We stayed for watered-down drinks and bland, tasteless risotta. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
