I brought in my car earlier this week for a front end alignment and was initially highly satisfied with the level of customer service and care, however after driving the car away my opinion degraded quickly. Mike, who seemed to be the lead mechanic, had told me my brake pads were pretty thin, so immediately I pulled the tires off and checked for myself. Of course, they were more than adequate with over a 1/2" of pad left.

However, the worst was that after driving my car on a 400 mile trip - the reason I got the old bird aligned in the first place - my right tire showed an incredible amount of wear; nearly all the outside tread was gone. I bought these tires new in April, and the only way this could have happened is if the alignment was done improperly. Which, if you upcharge the customer 50% on advertised cost without an estimate, note, or justification, seems exceptionally ridiculous. Especially after replacing other parts - again without parts and labor estimates on the entire job - specifically because "we can't do the alignment without replacing them."

It's certainly the last time I have the wool pulled over my eyes by a good natured and well-mannered mechanic. The receptionist's one exceedingly long thumbnail should have been a sign!

Ive never gotten my car worked on here. The customer service was so bad that I actually left before they started working on my car. The first visit was just a diagnostic one. That passed without incident, he took a look at the front end, gave me a summary and an estimate. I couldn't afford the work at the moment, so I took it in a month and a half later. The problem was I had lost the slip of paper with the repairs needed. I told the man at the desk this and also that the mechanic had said that something in my wheel well had been broken recently and needed to be repaired.

The man at the desk could not have been more condescending. He asked me multiple times what the problem was and if I still had the paper and every time after I told him I didn't know or that the paper was lost, he laughed derisively at me. He was so unbelievably rude that I took my key that I had given him and walked out. I have never been so insulted at an establishment. I work in the customer service industry and there are a million different ways to handle people but he's clearly not interested in any of them. Hoover will never get one cent from me.

Tire rods replaced, outer end on one and inner rod on the other. Front wheel alignment was also done for an added fee. But Only after a month or two, I can feel that my wheel on one side particularly the right front was making a rubbing noise when I will make a sharp turn or making a U-turn. Made a call to the shop to have it check; the operator, by the name of Dave, was on the other end of the phone call, who, aside from being SO LACKING of customer service skills (i.e. courtesy, understanding customer needs and concerns of issues at hand, etc.), is appallingly unhinged! This man has all the arrogance to say that they have all the confidence that all of their auto service or relative job/repairs done on your car are 100% sure flawless and nothing could certainly go wrong!!!! So I guess, even the most modern technological advancements in the auto industry simply cannot be imperfect? Reality is, there's no evidence anywhere to support whether that is a fact. And, I wonder why auto manufacturers and almost all of auto repair shop have a warranty/guarantee period??? I asked this man to check these tire rods they have replaced because probably they need to be redone, unfortunately, in as much as too bad they otherwise just did a LOUSY, CRAPPY job! Yet, what this Dave guy only have to say was he will charge a fee for taking at look at this problem... oh, how convenient?!!! So PATHETIC! What a waste of money and time to go to that place!!!

Insider expert ? Is that a professional whiner ? Roxanne ! When you were at Hoover, did you see million dollar computers hanging from the ceiling ? I didn't. Because Hoover missed your strut doesn't make them incompetent. It means the dealer got lucky and found what may be the squeak. I'm sure you paid plenty for your repair to. Probable $600.00 plus. The computer Analise was about a Hundred dollars, right. Just for a squeak coming from a strut. I fail to see how a computer found that ? But, you can trust a dealership. Ya Ya.

They have a beer at the end of their shift ? Good for them.
Please see your dealer from now on. Bring your check book.

My cars run sweet after leaving Hoover. I've been going there sense the 60's. Nobody does wheel alignment better than Hoover. Actually, any front end work.

My Truck go in Monday at 8 am for it's yearly alignment. They did my Jeep Friday. Great job guys.

Went in for a upper ball joint replacement, they fixed what I asked them to do, the prices were lower then other estimates, they were quick with a day notice and they didn't go off the edge and recommend fixing every little detail about the car. I really appreciated the service. I would recommend anyone that needs a job done to see if they can do it first.

brought my 96-S10 blazer in for some front end work. you know the drill, ball joints and more. was very happy with the work that was done. the crew did what they promised. quality work and the price was lower than some other estimates from other shops. I would recommend Hoover to any one and not have to worry about them being discouraged. great job Dale and your crew. thank you, joe c.

Been going to Hoover for years. These chaps are old school professional...say what they mean and mean what they say. I go no where else for suspension work. I too have brought in my own parts to save a buck. They've even finished a few jobs that I started and had no time to complete myself. They are a no bull sh(it) operation, which is well received by me, especially in these days and times. Cheers!

I take all my cars, and my family's cars, to Hoover Wheel Alignment. Dale, I think he is the manager, is very thorough, straightforward, and honest. They don't care if I bring in my own parts and that way I can save money. Their labor charges are more than fair and they do good work. They have no problem working on Domestic vehicles (Jeep, Dodge, Chevrolet) as well as imports, including my Jaguar, which most other shops won't touch. And I have even seen HUMMER H1s (the true Hummer), Corvette Z06s and Porsches there. No one can claim they don't know their stuff!

I drive a 1991 Chev Cavalier - its biggest enemy is rust. Hoover spotted a bad ball joint during their inspection and aligned my front end for $45 and replaced a ball joint in about an hour for $95 labor plus parts. I'm happy!

Just returned from having work done - *Not* at Hoover, because they advised me to get new tires instead of having a front end alignment... I brought my car to Hoover at 207 Lowry Ave. N. in MPLS (phone - 612-522-4489) and they were professional and HONEST; I was told that the steering wheel vibrations were likely caused by a separating tire, and that I might have the front tires replaced first (both were low on tread) before proceeding with an alignment. They directed me where to go, and I got a reasonable rate on new wheels, installed. They **saved** me money, and now the car drives as it should --- I am VERY PLEASED with the service and I received at the shop and will now recommend them to anyone for work to be done ----

Also - - everywhere else I phoned quoted me $70 - $130 for an alignment -- save yourself the time checking! and take it to Hoovers.

Just got back from Hoovers on Hennepin near 35w. Last week I replaced everything in the front end myself -- brakes, calipers, rotors, struts, ball joints and outer tie rod ends, but the car kept pulling to the left when breaking and felt unstable. They found an inner tie rod end that was bad and the ball joints needed to be tightened and the front end aligned. I think they were reasonably priced for the work. The alignment ran me only 40 dollars (they quoted me 45 on the phone -- competitors charge around 70).

You can watch the guy work on your car through a window in the waiting room. Just the alignment alone was a lot of work. $40. well spent. That guy was fast and diligent.

I had an appointment. The whole job was less than 45 minutes.

I had two tires on the front end that were extremely worn due to a failure to get the alignment 6 months ago when I purchased them at Sam's club. I told them that I was going to go back to the place where I bought them. No pressure from them to buy tires. That was cool.

They seemed very professional. No swearing. They have my future business.

By the way. I mentioned to the manager about the other comment -- guys drinking beer after 4. He said that they close at 4, but neither of his mechanics drink.

I too have had some good and bad experiences with Hoover. We've had a lot of vehicles there through the years and the owner and this shop used to have a very good reputation. Last time in, they diagnosed my wifes vehicle as needing sway bar links and charged a huge fee to replace two ends. I was not happy when later, under the vehicle, I found one bright shiny new end and one dirty old rusty end. Nothing can kill a shop faster than dishonesty. They can be good people that care but it seems like this shop might be sliding.

Are we talking about the one in North Minneapolis or the one on Hennipen? My car always goes to Hoover in North Minneapolis... they ARE fair and decent mechanics, that won't over charge you, or make things up just to get you to spend money.
I have 2 relatives that work there, and I can tell you... they bust ass to fix your car. And like someone else said about the beer... it's damn hot in there, and underneath your hot engines... at the end of the day, if they want a beer... they deserve it!
Get your butt off your high horse and grow up! If you stick your nose any higher in the air, a bird might poo on it!

After reading the last post I felt I needed to defend Hoover's as it is unfair to judge a front end alignment shop by the outcome of a vehicle that has been in an accident. I have a 1994 Dodge Ram 4wd pickup that I use extensively for pulling a fifth wheel camper and for work. 4wd's need front end work more often than regular vehicles. I will only take the pickup and our other vehicles to Hoover's. Their integrity is unmatched. Several times I have taken a vehicle there and been told that I didn't need an alignment but other work done - - work that Hoover does not do. As far as the beer drinking in the shop - - prohibition is over! These people work their tails off in a hot shop and well deserve a cold beer AFTER their work is done. At the most, they are guilty of poor judgement for drinking beer where the customer could see it. I would understand if there was illegal activity but if beer is allowed in the shop - - more power to them! Hoover's is the most honest shop I've been to. There is a reason they've grown to be one of the most popular front end shops in the twin cities area. Also, putting a car on a computer is not going to tell if a strut seat is "squeking"! I would give kudos to Hoover's for attempting to fix a car that has been in a crash in the first place and for telling this customer to come back so they can figure it out! I trust them so much I drive across town to have them work on my vehicles

Last summer,I had a very unpleasant experience at Hoover Wheel Alighment. I was in a bad car accident (not my fault) and had the unfortunate situation of fixing my car last summer. Why I didn't just go to the dealer right away, I don't know. I went to Hoover because it's right next to where I work. I had a mystery problem of squeking. Hoover felt I had a brake problem, and proceeded to fix that. They didn't fix the problem entirely, and I had to take the car back. They gladly took it back to try to fix it again, but I was never quite sure of their knowledge. They were not sure of what was wrong with the car, and it still squeked. When I went to get it the second time, the workers were drinking beer in the garage..at 4 pm! Any professional garage with workers drinking beer is a big thumbs down in my book. After my horrible experience at this garage, I took my car to the dealer, and they put my car on a computer. Within one hour, they knew exactly what was wrong with it (a strut "seat"), and they fixed it within the day. The car worked perfectly. I wish I could support the "little guys", but when the little guys drink beer and don't have proper knowledge, I go to the big box dealers.

PROS: NONE
CONS: See above
