I felt compelled to write after reading the last review. My evening was nearly perfect. We arrived before six and took advantage of the First Seating three course dinner for $25 per person. A great selection of dinner entrees, salad and dessert. (see their website for details) The Tiramisu was terrific. The service was outstanding. This is one of the best restaurants in Downtown Minneapolis....don't miss it. Not sure why this is listed as a french restaurant. I'd call it Mediterranean inspired.

From the Cheese Fondue to the Main Course, Wine and Pear Bread Pudding, it was Heaven. Listen to Jesse H., and not to any of the negative reviews. Better make a reservation to be sure you can have this dining experience, too!

We were not that thrilled with our Palomino visit. It started out great, with friendly bartenders and great Martini's however from there it went downhill. The food was average at best for the price, I must say it would have probably tasted a lot better with decent service. THe customer service was far from friendly (other than the bartenders) and I am regretting leaving a decent tip. I am hoping she was having an off evening. We may try it again, it was a fun atmosphere and great location but they have some work to do.

Pros: Bar Menu

Cons: Service, Value

I went here with a friend who had lunched there a few times for interviews, so it came recommended. I now don't trust her palate, because the food here was boring. For the prices it just was not worth it for a lackluster entree. The dessert was boring too, for where it was. I could have gotten as good at Perkins. Our service was attentive but aloof enough, helpful and actually kind. So no complaints there. It just shows you once again that price tag is not always an indication of quality.

Recently my husband and I took our 8 year old daughter to the Nutcracker Ballet at the Orpheum Theater. I wanted to make this really special for her, so I thought we go out to eat before the show. I made reservations for the Palomino, which is right across from the Orpheum. We got there early so we decided to sit in the bar area and have a drink. Initially I thought the place was very nice; the atmosphere is very cool and pleasing to the eye. However, this all changed as the evening progressed. For anyone who is a wine drinker, they have a terrible wine list (cheap wine for an expensive price). Service was okay, but food was terrible. I had Sea bass ($26), which tasted fishy, and was really bland; my husband ordered the Prawn Scampi ($20), which he did not receive Prawns they were jumbo shrimp, and the pasta it came with was all clumped together and hard in areas. My daughter had steak ($7), and she loved hers (I would have rather had her meal). We ended up spending $130 on an awful meal, and considering I??ve eaten at a lot of up scale restaurants downtown, I won??t ever go back!! (P.S. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review on a restaurant?that??s how upset I am.)

Pros: Bar area (not dining area) is pleasing.

Cons: Food and wine list are awful!! Really expensive for low quality!

Palomino is Perfect. My 5 years of dining there have always been nothing but the best. Sometime we wait a while but hey, thats the city, deal with it. Val is a superb waitress and is an example of This restaraunts fine management and employees. Best Calamari in the twin cities. My Lavender cosmo is always a treat to have there. Thanks Palomino for being so fabulous!!!

Pros: Free Parking Below in Lasalle Plaza Parking, Convenient to other downtown destinations, great place to start for the night.

Cons: None so far, sometimes a bit of a wait but like i said, thats minneapolis.

Hands down, this is one of the greatest restaurants downtown Minneapolis. The food is phenomonal and the service is outstanding. I would recommend making reservations though. The place is always packed. The atmosphere is great, very diverse. It is also in a great location. The executive chef is great too, gave my bf and I free dessert and wine because it was our anniversary. Check this place out, it's worth it!

One of the finest food experiences in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Unfortunately, the wait staff is average to poor.

A real solution is that after you enjoy some of the best food you will ever have, if the waiter/waitress is poor, give them a lousy tip and tell them why. Then tell the hostess the same. If enough people complain, the bad wait staff will be fired!

We tried Palomino for the first time a month ago. The staff is very friendly, but not fawning. The dining room was surprisingly noisy. We previewed the menu on their website (www.palomino.com), so I already had an idea of what I wanted. Our appetizer was the Grilled Wild Mushrooms, which was tasty, but not what we expected. It was a mixed green salad with mushrooms, walnuts, Gorgonzola and croutons. My entree was the Spiced Prawn and Mango Salad. It was fabulous - I spent the entire time trying to figure out how to duplicate it at home. My husband had the New York Steak Frites, and the "Mmmmm"s he emitted throughout the meal nearly crossed the line to the obscene. The Chocolate Tiramisu (which I had also spotted on their website) was also not as expected. It was delicious, but not a traditional tiramisu (large enough for two). As mentioned by a previous reviewer, do take advantage of the discounts offered by signing up for the Premier Dining Club on their site. Would definitely go again.

PROS: Great food, validated parking
CONS:

I hadn't eaten at Palomino for years and I had a luncheon there today.

I had a very disappointing meal and when I shared my opinion with the server, he said - that's too bad.

I had a MUCH better meal for $2.53 at Taco Bell the other night!!!

I've been going to Palomino for over 10 years, though the menu has changed over the years(a bit more main stream now), the dedication, service and consistency has kept me loyal. The food is always great, the kitchen can really WOW you! Their "feature sheet" continually has fresh upbeat items, the service is personal with much detail, the atmosphere elegant without a dress code. They have been very busy this season (1,500 People a day!) but still deliver! A MUST stop.

When there are so many great restaurants in and around downtown Minneapolis, I'm always amazed how a place like this can flourish. The space itself has no character, the servers are unpolished, and the food is sloppily prepared. I ordered the lobster ravioli which was burnt on the bottom and had way too much going on. The menu is unfocused. If you're looking for a restaurant where you can get bruschetta, fried calamari, a boring entree, and a tacked on dessert for 100 bucks, then this place is for you.

Palimino Resteraunt is located right in the heart of the Minneapolis theater district. This makes Palomino the perfect spot to visit before or after an event. The food is fine dining and you will enjoy it. If you are looking to keep it on the cheap I reccomend visiting the bar for appetizers and drinks only. It will be tough to get more bang for your buck than that.

Palomino is a perfect place for a dinner date or celebration, with great food, perfect service, nice wine list, awesome martinis and terrific desserts. I keep coming back since discovering this place over four years ago and have never been disappointed. If you go, make sure you try paella and tiramisu. Also, sometimes they run promotions - if you sign up for their e-mails, they e-mail you $$ off or BOGO coupon... I thonk they do it for birthdays, too.

PROS: validated parking, good food, great service

I made a reservation two nights prior for my husband and I. They asked if it was for a special occasion. It was our 8 year wedding anniversary. We arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation and were promptly seated. We were given a table by a window and our server made a point of wishing us well on our anniversary. The combination of the beautiful decor, lighting, attentive service and a very pleasing palette of food made it the beginning of a very fine and memorable night. I enjoy spending time downtown and will continue to make the Palomino a destination while I'm there.

The waiter was ridiculously rude...he commented negatively on our food choices, he accidently emptied a wine glass onto a friends jacket by prematurely taking it from the table and didn't go out of his way to apologize. He took a plate from under my friend in the middle of a bite of bread-no reaction when she told him she was not finished-I would not recommend this restaurant for a group of people...food was good, my pizza was burnt on the edges but the crab dip and pasta dishes were amazing! All-in-all I will not return. If I am going to go to a fine dining restaurant, I expect to be treated in a fine manor which was definitely NOT the case! We even made reservations and had to wait almost 25 minutes to be seated-it was a week night and there were at least a dozen tables available!

Cons: Service, some food items

When I pay $100 for a meal for two, I expect near perfection. I can handle a mistake or two. But this place made rookie mistakes. The soup was cold, and I had to send it back TWICE. And it still wasn't hot! The crab dip was way too rich. The port wine after dinner had been open WAY too long - I had to send it back. The deserts were marginal - the "molten" chocolate cake was more like "crumbly." The creme brulee was like pudding, and the sugar on top was incredibly thick - it was by far the worst creme brulee I'd ever had. The service was phenomenal, and she really tried to make up for the deficiencies. But it wasn't enough - I will never return, and I urge you to do the same. Enough of these crappy corporate cookie-cutter restaurants!

Very impressive restaurant. Ambience is amazing and the food even better. The Mojitos were really good. Highly recommend the Bruschetta for an appetizer and the Lobster Ravioli as well. The molten chocolate cake is to die for. If you like great food, this is the place for you.

My guy and I recently went for my birthday. We brought our own wine, which they were more than happy about. They even corked it and chilled it for us at our table. We were seated promptly on a Friday night (with a reservation), and our server was amazingly attentive. The value is very good, it's really not that expensive for what you get. I highly recommend it, and I didn't notice that the music was very loud.

On a recent visit, we sat down 20 minutes after our reservation time, were seated 15 minutes before a server approached us(at a table with a damp napkin and 1 dirty fork), did not receive our bottle of wine until 25 minutes after we were seated. They were out of my first two menu choices, but I was pleasantly surprised by my meal--(although it was a look warm) recommended by our server. The place was crazy busy for a Tuesday night.
This is a great restaurant, but don't expect perfection everytime.

This place has been downtown for a long time and is consistently good. Great for dinner before a show, they are very cognizant of getting you out on time if that is your preference. Excellent spit roasted meats and brick oven creations & fresh fish preparations are countered with a wine list of mostly well known labels but the vintage is not always accurate. Standard 150% markup applies to wine purchases but the are good about letting you bring in your own selections if you are nice about it. There are plenty of servers but not all are equally good so service can sometimes be a little uneven. However, the location and solid food offerings more than make up for any shortcomings in service. I recommend heartily.

If the paella hadn't been so extremely good, with great big chunks of all sorts of seafood, I would have been disappointed with our visit. The calamari was warm to room temp, my salad was drenched in dressing (which I didn't expect from the menu description), and the 'chocolate tower' was just OK. The wine list is good and wine is served at the proper temperature (we had white). The setting is urban trendy . . . I didn't quite expect the music to be so upbeat but thought the decor and energy knit together well.

Well I hadn't been to Palomino in 5 years and either my memory was poor or the restaurant had become a little more trendy than I remembered. The decor was modern and fun but the music was too loud and the menu was too broad for my liking. We had mediocre fried calarmari and the romaine hearts salad with too much garlic and vinagrette dressing. The main course saved the day: excellent basted tiger prawns for me and paella with generous amounts of seafood for my fiance. My cosmopolitan was also very good. The disappointing chocolate mint tower dessert ended the evening- just not minty or rich enough to justify itself. Overall it was a fun scene just don't expect exceptional food or to hear any conversation. The folded paper menu, loud pulsing music, and goofy salt, pepper, toothpick and sugar dispenser seemed to undermine any elegance.

I have never had a watress treat me worse than ours did on Fri. Oct. 11. My sister, mom & I went there after a day of power-shopping downtown Mpls. We were exhausted and ready for some good food and wine. We were seated promptly. Unfortunately, it took almost 20 minutes to even be greeted by a staff person. Another 20 minutes to get water...another 20 to get bread...you get the picture. I ordered some type of Spaghetti Carbonara and was rudely told by the waitress that "it's SpaghettINI..not spaghetti". So sorry! I'll bring my Italian phrasebook next time. I had to order wine twice before she brought it, my sister's vodka tonic was gin. She was rude and made us all uncomfortable. I don't care if the food there is somewhat tasty, I will never return.

Nice atmosphere for an elegant dinner and loud enough to have a laugh or two. We went as a group and shared appetizers and desserts. The portabella mushrooms in the salad tasted like steak. My main course was the pan seared flounder with creamed pea and asparagus sauce. The flavor of that dish is one I will remember for a long time. The others tried it and we all had the same reaction-wonderful! I also tried rib-eye steak, it melted in my mouth. The prawns were beautifully presented and tasted great. The kids had cheese pizza and spagetti. The spagetti is garlicky. Kids can go here if they behave well. The desserts were very tasty and we found room for them. My husband thought it was the best orange scone (with toppings) that he has ever had. Service was excellent. We enjoyed the whole experience for a special night out.

What a wonderful and grand place. This place makes you feel like someone special and you wouldn't be surprised to see a celebrity seated at the next table.
Food was pricey but creative and good.
The wait staff is superb.
Perfect place to have dinner before going to the theatre.

Great food, great service, beautiful atmoshpere. Kinda spendy but worth the experience. Not a place for children. Romance and business. Great place for couples.
