I would refer anyone and everyone to Auto Evaluators
by J M.
We were referred to Auto Evaluators by a friend over 15 years ago - thank you JZ. Since then, we have purchased 7 or 8 cars from Mark & Paul and will not go anywhere else. I feel like family every time I call or go in. My sons wanted something other than Volvo's to drive when they got their licenses. I explained that it wasn't just my concern about safety that I chose Volvo, but that it was the trusted, caring relationship that I had with Auto Evaluators that kept me loyal to them. I know when I send my sons in with their cars they get an education as well as good service and I receive peace of mind that when they are away at school, their cars will be in good shape. What a joy to work with everyone there. They have even driven around with me to "figure out that noise" on several occasions and always validated my concerns and explained in detail what was going on. This is a relationship I hope continues forever. Everyone I have sent there (at least 5 people) have thanked me. I don't refer people lightly but I am very comfortable with Auto Evaluators, for repairs as well as purchase.

An honest, dedicated shop
by TomMM
I have taken my Volvos to AutoEvaluators for 10+ years. I am a dedicated customer because they know their business. The mechanics get to the bottom of each issue. The shop is honest and fair.

Great service, great effort, great people
by mzpilates
Dana and the people at Auto Evaluators have always steered us right on all our repairs, with great honesty and integrity. We got a bum steer from the dealer on what needed to be done and Auto Evaluators helped us sort out a big safety issue that was under warranty, which they didn't have to bother with. Always feel like the work is thoroughly explained to me, not like some places that talk down to a woman like you are a car moron! Highly recommended.
Pros: Great service for our 2 volvos
Cons: Close too early at night for worker bees!

Satisfied customer for 10 Years
by Janet Jennewein
Taking my Volvo to any place other than the dealership caused problems. No one else carries Volvo parts. My college friend recommended Auto Evaluators, and I've been going to them ever since.
Mark, Paul, Diane, Pat and everyone are all knowledgeable and dependable. They've gone the extra mile for me numerous times so that I can get my car fixed as quickly as possible.
There website and online appointment setting are also a great convenience!
Pros: Great for Volvo & Subaru owners

Nice Online Services
by mchapin4
Worked with AutoEvaluators for three or more years. They are prompt with their service work and willing to fix the problems as they occur. Purchased Volvo to them and sold a Volvo to them.
Enjoy the online scheduling and responsiveness from their staff. The coupons and monthly newsletters help make me feel like they want to appreciate the customer and have repeat business.
Pros: Online Scheduling and Online Coupons
Cons: Oil changes can be pricey

Great Volvo Service
by GKDAV
I have been going to Auto Evaluators ever since I moved to STL 4 1/2 years ago. I have taken a total of 5 Volvos there and have been extremely pleased with my service experience every time. I travel appox. 23 miles one way to bring my cars there which should tell how much I value their work. If I cannot do the work myself then I trust them to do it. If you own any make or year of Volvo, I would take it to the people at Auto Evaluators before anywhere else.
Pros: Experience, Knowlageable, Specializes in Volvos
Cons: Distance from me

Excellent Service, Friendly Staff
by jdhayes
All of my interactions with the staff have been positive and very friendly. One even went out of his way to assist me after hours when he could have simply gone home. They explain all of their pricing up-front and never seem to try to sell you on services you don't need (rare for the mechanic industry). I've driven a Volvo my whole life and was thrilled to find such great service in St. Louis. Their work has always been excellent, and I will continue to use them as long as I live in St. Louis.

Great Place to Bring Your Volvo
by elc127
I've been going to Auto Evaluators since I first purchased my Volvo two years ago. They offer great service and do not try to sell you on extra services you do not need. I once took my Volvo to a dealer (I was out of town and the check engine light came on) and they told me there was a problem with the car that would cost over $600. I promptly took my car to Auto Evaluators for a second opinion. They spent the time to go through the car and found there was nothing wrong with it. The people at Auto Evaluators are very honest and thanks to their expertise I did not end up spending an unneeded $600. After going somewhere else once and having a problem I will never take my car anywhere besides Auto Evaluators.

Best independent Volvo/Subaru shop in town
by AMWahl
I have a multi-year and multi-car relationship with these clowns ... and by that, I mean that they not only take great care of my vehicles, but they keep me laughing and enjoying every visit to their shop. If you want to overpay, visit one of the local Dealerships; otherwise, make the trip to AutoEvaluators.
Pros: Honest, knowledgeable, quick and reasonable prices
Cons: The candy dish at the reception counter is only half full

Conscientious, honest, knowledgable
by lrw1000
I've worked with the Dirsas for 15 years. Their mechanics do a good job, they keep good records, they're timely and are good-humored. I always get good service and if I have a complaint they call me and work it out - person to person. This is a good shop to be acquainted with - they are good people.
Pros: Mark and Pat work very hard to satisfy all their clients.
Cons: Car repair is a difficult business.

Thorough Work
by PBelt
I brought my subaru in for an inspection. My check engine light was on. They were very Thorough with figuring out the problem, researching, etc. On the negative side, some of the staff was rude and they did not call me to let me know if my car was finished.
Pros: They were very Thorough diagnosing my car problem
Cons: unfriendly staff and insufficient communication

Excellent, Honest Volvo Service
by MB73
I've been taking my 98 V70 AWD to these folks for four years--they are consistently 2/3 the cost of the local Volvo dealer, ALWAYS have the car ready when promised, and keep me informed if something beyond the scope of expected repairs. They are honest, forthright, and treat us like real human beings. I am likely to buy another Volvo (through them) mainly because I like their service so much.
Pros: Repairs completed on time
Cons: longer Saturday hours needed

unbelievable honesty
by skatergirl99
My Husband and I were told by another shop that to get our tags renewed our Volvo needed a catalytic convertor . We called around and got several estimates and Auto Evaluators had the best price. We made the appointment for a week later and we were told that they would order the part for us so that we could have the car back the same day.
We were very shocked to get a phone call from the Service Manager explaing to us that our car didn't need the catalytic convertor to pass the tests that we needed to renew our (expired!) plates. Something about the battery dying last week and a reset procedure.. I don't know a lot about cars and I don't really understand what happened but what I do understand is that Auto Evaluators could have gone ahead and replaced the $1500.00 catalytic convertor on my car and I would never have been the wiser. My bill? $36.00 for the state required test. They didn't even charge me a restock fee for having to send the part (that was special ordered for my car) back.
This kind of honesty is and great customer service is why I will continue to take all of my cars to Auto Evaluators.
Pros: great customer service
Cons: farther from my house than the dealer, no loaner car

Auto Evaluators*Shockingly bad service
by andreavolvochic
Despite a very rude female employee whose name begins with D., we were loyal customers of Auto Evaluators. We had gone there, reluctantly, for years. It seemed that we would simutaneously get something "fixed" and something else would break. Freaky. We spent 5000.00 to have a new engine, new radiator, hoses, etc.....After each repair, it had another problem within 2 weeks. I felt like none of their work was ever really guaranteed. After engine/radiator replacement the car stops within 6 weeks. Pay 200.00 more. Then within one year, brand new radiator has leak. Part is within warranty. Since we went for an oil change somewhere else, response was that they, Auto Evaluators wouldn't take responsibility for the repair. They are able to get another radiator for free, if they return the old one to manufacturer. An incredibly rude lady, "D", informed us that they really didn't have any responsibility for it. I understand their policy to be that if go to Jiffy Lube or somewhere for an oil change, that voids my warranty for my 5000.00 engine/radiator? Disturbing was the immediate defensiveness of front desk. I would expect that good customers (we have very politely handed over more than $10,000 there) would be treated with a bit more respect and "good faith". It is tragic that one person at the desk can ruin a business's reputation. I would not recommend Auto Evaluators. I cannot believe the rudeness and complete lack of customer service. Stay away from Auto Evaluators. Inexcusable. Even if the repair or part was shoddy, it was they manner in which it was handled that I felt was a bad business practice.
I have to write this review because my husband is currently on the phone with the lawyer, trying to figure out what can be done to prevent this from happening to other Volvo clients.
Every single time we took the car there something broke shortly after. We tried to give benefit of doubt but there is only so much "coincidence" that can happen.
Pros: Adverstise that they fix Volvos
Cons: Bad business practice, put the customer last.

Shoddy service
by tkeenan
They diagnosed my problem right: emergency brake cable. I told them not to fix it because I wanted to get it quoted somewhere else. I pick the car up, pay my $70 evaluation fee, and 2 miles down the road hear a load clunk in the right rear wheel well. I hobble it home, try to take the wheel off. I take it off, but it the lugs were on so tight, that it cracked one lug wrench on its socket, and mildly bent another before I got all five off.
Once I take the wheel off, I find I have a broken rotor. That's right, a rotor split in half. I posted the pic on a mechanic's site, and no one had ever seen such a thing. I don't blame Auto Evaluators exactly, but it was a coincidence.
I went back to the shop, and spoke to the woman head mechanic. I was as polite as I could be, and was just looking to get my evaluation fee refunded. She said that it was my fault, that the diagnosis of a bad e-brake cable made the car unsafe to drive and contributed to breaking a rotor. ??????
I have a hunch, that because I didn't accept the rapair, they torqued the lugs on super-tight, and may have done something else which led to the split rotor.
So, needless to say, I would look elsewhere if you want honesty and good customer service.
Pros: specialized for volvos
Cons: antagonistic customer service
