We traveled down for a funeral of a relative. First, we got lost because our navigation quit. Lovely. We called the funeral home and they gave us perfect directions.
Once we arrived, almost late, we were a bit panicked and obviously a mess. They took us to private and very beautiful restrooms so we could change clothes. Even gave us a bottle of water and some mints. At this point, we think we're at a hotel :)
So, the people were super nice. They were younger around our age - mid 30's. Very professional, but casual (in a great way) about it. They have a very non-funeral director vibe. You know what I mean. I jokingly asked what the heck they were doing at a funeral home. They own it. Ah, makes sense now.
The service was first class. I should review the florist as well. Wow. Gorgeous flowers from somewhere (I assume in Versailes). They do all their own print stuff, because I asked. I do graphic design. The photo folders were wonderful. The service was flawless.

We had recently been to another small town north of Kansas City for a funeral. Lovely place. The service was fine, but it was in an old house. (think of the movie My Girl) The people at that one were just kind of different. The Kidwel-Garber service was so much better I can't even say enough.

So, I guess I should wrap this up as I seem to drift. This is my first review of a funeral home. I was just so impressed by these people and their funeral home that I needed to get this out there. I love small towns because you NEVER know what you will run into. This place is a gem.

Losing my aunt was really hard. Kidwell Garber did a really nice job of making it easier. Her service was truly fitting for her. I would use their services again and recommended to some people already.

Very nice service and funeral home. Staff was more than willing to go above and beyond. Very helpful with insurance/social security questions. They filed much of the paperwork and got everything taken care of quickly. Would definitely use their services again for my family. Also, we bought our gravestone from Kidwell-Garber Granite that is adjacent. They have a huge selection. We had originally intended on using a family acquaintance, but were impressed by the selection and service, so we went with them. I think they have been around for some time and have a very impressive 'brag' book of the work they've done. Gravestone is very nice and we get compliments from family members. NOTE: Granite companies are "branding" their products now. That may seem weird, I know. Lots of gravestones that I see have little stickers on them that say where they were made. I appreciated that this company ASKED if we would allow them to place a small stainless steel plaque on the back. Normally I would says no, but we agreed. It's very small and tasteful. If we ever want it off, we just pop it off.
Very nice experience.

As a long-time resident of the lake community, and family member of a repeat client family of Kidwell-Garber, I would like to add a few words.

I respect this sector of business, but think it must be very hard to do this job every day. With that said, I have always been very, very pleased with the Garber/Akin family that owns and operates this business. They have beeen doing this a long time, and have treated us with such dignity and respect.

Beautiful funeral homes. My family is resting in their cemetery behind the Laurie place. It's private, quiet and well-kept. We also got our monument from them (which they actually make at their other business). We were able to design it, and their artist did a diamond etch of our beautiful lake on the granite. It took our breath away.

This family, while I don't really know them personally, I feel like I do. I see them out in the community, supporting the area in which we live. That means a lot to me.

If you experience a loss, I would recommend them as a place to turn and have things all taken care of. I just know that Kidwell Garber has always been really great to my family.

I live in St. Louis and recently traveled to the Lake of the Ozarks for two funerals. Ironically, both were at Kidwell-Garber. I should mention that I'm an architect and interior designer. One funeral was in Versailes and the other in Laurie. First off, one was incredibly difficult for me, as it was for my aunt. Maybe I'm accustomed to more disconnected life of St. Louis, but the staff at Kidwell-Garber was incredibly attentive and very helpful. My aunt's funeral was in Versailles. Driving up to the place, it was very neatly kept. It's all brick with white columns. It seemed unpretentious. Step inside and it's beautiful...but still unpretentious. I think they tried to keep it within the realm for a small town, but used top quality materials. The furnishings are beautiful - kind of an old world feel. The chapel is huge. The entire ceiling is vaulted and is 100% beautiful oak with chandeliers hanging. The only thing I didn't like were white speakers recessed into the oak. But hey, they were Bose, and sounded terrific. Plasmas on the wall and a HUGE drop down out of the ceiling screen were very nice. The bathrooms - WOW. Very cool design. They took antique dressers and had vanities made out of them. Very original thinking. Fixtures are top notch. Lounge area was beautiful.
In Laurie, it has more of a Lake feel. This chapel is smaller and the materials used are similar, but the wood is an impeccable walnut. I didn't like the layout of this one as well. But, I'm not complaining. Very cool bathroom here, too. Neat use of tile.
The services (sorry, the designer in me took over):
The staff was wonderful. Very attentive and personal. I loved the memorial folders and options. The video tribute for my aunt was simply touching. Pricing was very fair and competitive for the services offered. We opted to also have a graveside and chose to have them chauffeur us in their automobiles, which turned out to be a mini-stretch limousine. (note, I would love to have those flashing headlights on my car). All around, I would highly recommend Kidwell-Garber as a funeral home. Their information says they have been around since 1840 or something. I can believe it. The west side of the lake is fortunate to have this place that's family owned (according to the people there). In St. Louis, so many are corporate owned and impersonal.
If the owners read this, very nice job!

My family had a service at Kidwell-Garber in Versailles recently. Some of my family is local, however I am not. I wasn??t expecting what we got from Kidwell-Garber, I guess because I had a different perception of funeral homes. We were incredibly impressed with their staff and facilities. Everything was top-notch. Their directors were very helpful and professional. I don??t think I have ever been to a funeral home with such caring people who are so genuine! There was a young woman who, I believe, manages the funeral home ?? she was incredible. Their facilities rival anything we have in the city where I reside. Their funeral home was beautiful and spacious and smelled terrific (I have a thing for smells). The huge stained glass piece they have at the front of their chapel is amazing. They also had flat screen TVs and a drop down screen which showed our video tribute. Everything was perfect. As I said, all very modern and gorgeous! Without seeming ??too city? in saying this?I just didn??t expect to find such professionalism and beautiful facilities in a small town like Versailles. The owners of Kidwell-Garber are doing a lot of things right. Versailles is very lucky to have such a great place to turn to in a time of need.

Our experience with Kidwell Garber was exceptional. We found their employees extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They were able to suggest things we had not thought of and helped make the funeral planning process very easy. The facility is spacey and very clean. It has a homey, welcoming feeling, that allows you to relax at such a difficult time. They were very helpful in putting together a video memorial for our loved one among so many other things.
