Kaplans has been a wonderful experience for me. The people there are friendly as well as knowledgeable. They offer fine fabrics that are not found anywhere else in the Kansas City area. While some fabrics are often comparable to other stores such as JoAnns and even Hobby Lobby, the fine designer fabric cannot be more affordable or readily available. Along with their abundant selection of fine fabrics, they also offer sewing classes. The teacher has been an absolute joy to work with and her skills are undoubtedly worth the price. Two thumbs up for Kaplans!!

kaplans fabrics on the plaza has a beautiful array of luxury and designer fabrics along with a nice selection of sewing notions. unfortunately the service at this small fabric store is so terrible all the beautiful fabrics in the world wouldn't bring this patron back to kaplans. after multiple visits thinking the customer service level would improve it never did. in fact it consistently got worse. the owners of kaplans seem to think that treating patrons as second class citizens is the hallmark of exemplary customer service. on one occasion the owner/manager blatantly lied about the price of fabrics in sample books and then downplayed it by stating that "he also has a family to feed." as a consumer i do not appreciate being lied to nor do i appreciate store staff raising their voices to me. shop at kaplans at your own risk. i however have chosen to take my patronage elsewhere and encourage others to do the same.

Kaplans houses many special occasion fabrics as well as a huge selection of draperies and silks. The button selection is surprisingly vast. The family owners are lovely people and provide great service. Bargaining is definitely not off the table at this fabric store as you will most likely be given a verbal discount or offered a lower price if you purchase more.
