So I moved to Pacific several months ago and visited the Great Pacific Coffee Co for the first time this past Sunday. I'd been hesitant to visit the establishment due to bad stories I'd heard from family and friends (bad service, dirty, etc). However, I love small local joints and really wanted to give this place a shot, so my family decided to stop in for lunch after church on Sunday. I'll break it down:

ATMOSPHERE: Very cool building, but unfortunately it is not well kept. Things are dirty, dark, and in disrepair. Surfaces felt sticky (especially our table) and, despite sitting in the non-smoking section, the restaurant reeked of cigarettes.

In addition, I was expecting a coffeehouse atmosphere (due to the name), but when you walk in, it feels more like a local tavern. The bar proudly displays tons of liquer, there's sports on the tv, and the place has that "old spilled beer" smell that taverns tend to acquire.

FOOD: Again, not the greatest. In truth, it reminds me of typical tavern food. We went for lunch, so the menu was limited. The selection is typical sandwiches, burgers, etc with limited sides (potato chips, cottage cheese, etc). However they were out of several items.

We wound up chosing the BLT with cottage cheese and Hamburger with chips. It was alright - nothing to write home about, but it tasted ok, similar to cafeteria food. My only issue was the price vs portion sizes. Our bill was $24. Pricey for the quality & quantity of food we recieved.

SERVICE: This was both good and bad. When we walked into the restaurant, we were "greeted" by a grumpy bartender. He simply ignored us, despite there being only 1 person at the bar. After flagging him down, I informed him we'd never been there before and asked if we should seat ourselves.

After an awkward moment, a wonderful waitress came to our rescue. She was the one bright spot of the meal. She took us to a table. She was friendly, attentive, and did a great job. Too bad the rest of the experience didn't match her enthusiasm.

OVERALL: I would not recommend this place. There are many better places to eat in Pacific. Next time, I will take my $24 elsewhere.

This place is fantastic! Dave, the owner, was very hospitable. The steak and the grouper was magnificant, and the atmosphere was nostalgic. Very underrated, you must come here on Thurs or Sat nights for their wonderful food!

The Great Pacific Coffee Co. is a cool hang out and has a good-sized section to accommodate private parties. I recently attended a high school reunion held here, and the food was delicious. The prices are very reasonable, and the staff was friendly.

How awesome that Pacific finally got a business that stands out. The Great Pacific Coffee House is the best thing to happen to this town in a long time. I wish they had featured this type of thing when I lived there, but then again, that was before Starbucks swept the nation. There is something to be said for a private shop that is lacking at Starbucks or another chain. A great place to get a drink or chill out.
