Made one leg on our 11 year old collie the color of raw hamburger. Shaved it down to the skin; it was actually raw.

When we noticed this, I immediately went back to pick up our boarder collie mix and witnessed the same boy jerking and yelling at our pup. (He hadn't noticed me come into the shop.) Of course, I told him to get my dog off the table immediately.

There are too many options in STL to use a butcher shop like this. Never again ...

Pros: The cats roaming around are friendly, that's all

Cons: hatched job they do

Me and my partner started taking are cat here about a year ago to be groomed..
First couple visits was just okay, lot's of other animals, dogs / cats running around free in the shop.. We had a problem with are cats hair going bald on both sides.. so we stopped getting her hair cut so much thinking it was because of the grooming so much and it turned out to be a rash of some sort.. Then every time we picked are cat up she had flea's, probably because of the other animals running around.. We recommended Bark Avenue on bates to my partners Mother to have her cat done.. She took the recommendation and had made three visets threw out time.. the third one about killed Edna my partners , mothers cat.. She came out after picked up, when arriving home let her out of the cage and she fell over on her side and could not keep balance.. One of her eyes lids was over half of her eye..
We took her to the Vet and explained the experiences we had Dalt with including the one why we was at the vet trying to save Edna's life.. We paid $126 to get Edna all better and the Vet said not to take either of are cats there again... I truly think something is wrong there at Bark Avenue Pet Grooming on Bates.. and Beg / highly recommend not taking your pet here to be groomed.. Trust a local that has been there please.. Thanks for reading.. Bobby.. P.S we are not crazy, they offered nothing to help us...

Here is from another lady on Bark avenues Yahoo listing feedback..
I will report these people to the better business bureau and the ASPCA for cruelty to animals. The owner is not only unprofessional but she also offered no resolve to the problem. She was very rude and again, if you care about your animal, please take them somewhere else.
respectfully,
EJ

Do whiskers serve a purpose on cats?
They do serve a purpose. They help the cat judge spaces. Not only do whiskers act as feelers which enable a cat to learn whether a given opening is wide enough to admit the cat, but they also operate as air current detectors, which greatly enhance a cat's ability to hunt at night.

A cat with damaged whiskers will have trouble hunting in the dark. This is why we must never, never pull out, cut, or otherwise separate the cat from the whiskers. They will fall out when the time is right. Meanwhile, they are needed.

If a person cut them off and someone called the ASPCA, that person would be charged with cruelty to animals.

I have finally found my forever groomer! Bark Ave fits my dog and cat in whenever I call and they always come back happy and looking great! These people really care about the happiness of their clients and do an exceptional job! They pick up and deliver my dog if i cant find time to do it myself and have even kept my dog while I was out of town.(not in a cage-in their home!) They are very professional with a laid back attitude which makes them comfortable to talk to. If you havent taken your pet there yet-what are you waiting for?You will not be dissapointed!

DO NOT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This lady cuts your dog the way SHE WANTS them cut!!!!
When I picked my Yorkie up he was sheared head to toe!
I asked that she only cut the body and the nose. To leave the legs and face long. ALL of it was cut!! She said that the legs would be too long?

It's WHAT the customer WANTS, NOT the groomer!!!!!

Then she THREATEN ME, saying that she would jump over the counter to whoop my butt, BECAUSE I COMPLAINED?

Then she called my house and left a message about my "UGLY ASS" dog and said goodbye good riddance! Uncalled for!

After spending over an hour of my time on the phone with this woman, she called back 2 weeks later for an appointment. I chose to groom her dog on a day that we are normally closed because that was the only time convienient for her. She showed up an hour late and informed me that she would wait while I groomed her pet. That is not how we operate but she clearly wasnt quite right and I didnt want a hassle. Finally she left so I could do my job.I asked her if she wanted the trim that we discussed on the phone and she said yes. The only thing she didnt want trimmed was hair on the nose and tail.Other than that- groom the dog as we had discussed. Apparently she isnt aware how to give good directions-she said she didnt want that haircut(after the fact) and she wasnt paying for it. I did threaten to call the police if she didnt pay me.She threw $(not enough) at me and proceeded to rant and rave around my shop. When informed that we would have her escorted out if she wouldnt leave-she finally left. I did call her to say that I was sorry that she didnt give clear instructions resulting in a trim that she didnt want.Im not a mind reader which is why I do an in depth consultation. I wasnt mad that she didnt like the cut-I was aggravated that she didnt explain what she wanted and then ranted and raved around my shop like a lunitic.PLEASE-if you have your dog groomed-be clear on instructions.

I thought the staff at Bark Avenue was professional and caring. I took my border collie and golden retriever in smelling pretty bad, but the groomers did a great job!!! Not only that, but my dogs seemed less apprehensive at first than other groomers I've been to. The less traumatic it is, the better. I thought they were the best in the city I've been to so far. Thanks Suzanne!!! -Sally, Sam, and Bandit

Pros: great cut, dogs not scared, nice people

Cons: dogs were a little bit thirsty at home

Upon arrival the place was friendly from the outside but entering the door and getting a waft of animal urine was gross. The boss was never around according to the employee's i dealt with (some of whom were actually friendly), when picking up my dog, the lady was horrible. Smoking in the shop , talking about personal things my child didn't need to hear, and ignoring questions about pricing from her employees. If i were you I would concider going somewhere else period. The haircut i requested wasn't what i recieved. Instead she did what she wanted and told me there was nothing else she could have done. My golden retriever came back with half of its back end shaved. She told me something about hot spots which my dog didnt have.

Pros: close to home

Prices are not bad, the place could use a cleaning but they really do give your dog more attention than Petsmart. Overall, they did an average job--better than I could do, but not the best groomer in town by far.
