One of the worst dining experiences to date. The ball was dropped multiple times with not a single staff member eager or even willing to attempt to pick it up. No one seemed to be in charge and no one seemed to care. No one asked me how my food was (which came on a cold dirty plate) and I was never offered a second (or third) glass of wine because the cocky waiter was too busy on his i-phone. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE - ANYWHERE else - where the staff will actually appreciate the fact you are there. This place is in need of a paradigm shift before they go out of business. It was slow and my bet is it will continue until no one is there!
We (my husband and I) have eaten at Sam's many times, both as a couple and with our friends. The experience is amazing! The shrimp cocktail was chilled perfectly and fresh! The filet steak was extemely flavorful . The wine list was great and the prices were reasonable! As for the service...we have asked for Jake EVERYTIME and NEVER have been dissapointed! Very efficient, warm and welcomingand not stuffy!. Look no more! Go here !
My husband and I were at Sam's on Saturday Evening, October 17, 2009. We have been here several times, but this time, while the food was good, nothing was hot. Everything from the stuffed mushrooms, to my steak and twice baked potato to my husbands prime rib and mixed vegetables, everything was lukewarm at best. The food was good, but would have been even better had it been served hot. Had a hard time understanding that our meal was not served hot, because when we sat down it was still early, 6:00 p.m., and not crowded. Service seemed quick - so unless the food was just sitting in a warmer - hard to understand why.
My husband and I had dinner at Sam's. It was on the pricey side, but we do not mind paying for a good meal. My husband ordered his steak medium well. When it came out it was so rare that it was sitting in a pool of blood. I was so glad that I had ordered the salad instead. We sent it back and received it back well done, tough and chewy. They charged us the full price for everything - didn't comp the steak or offer us a free dessert. We will not return.
PROS: If you like Thomas Kinkaide artwork, the atmosphere might be up your alley
CONS: Steak served bloody when it was requested to be medium well
Sam's has the best steaks in St. Louis. The restaurant is casual dress and reservations are suggestions. The service is typically great. I have had one bad experiences, however, once I brought it to the attention of the manager, we did not have to pay for our meal. Probably one of my favorite things about this restaurant is the free chocolate cake dessert you get if it is your birthday or anniversary. This is one of the richest and most delicious desserts I have ever had, and I make sure that when I have something to celebrate I go to Sam's.
I just want to say we had WONDERFUL service with Greg. I am a little picky with my steak...I like it medium well with barely any pink and both steaks were red (even my husband said they were red whom is NOT picky at all) I think what will bring us back is the wonderful service with Greg. Greg did comp our steak and profusely apologized. I would definitely come back because of greg
Pros: Wonderful Service
Cons: I had 2 send my steak back 2x
My wife and I came here for our 10th anniversary. (What an excellent decision on my part she loved it!) We had a reservation and were immediately seated. Our server greeted us with a warm welcome and told my wife about a pineapple infused vodka martini they make in house, she loved it. We tried the Shrimp Louisiana as our first course and almost ordered a second! My wife had the steak modeiga which she absolutely loved. I had the pepper filet and aside from it being slightly overcooked (i ordered medium rare) it was the best steak I have ever had. I highly suggest Sam's to everyone looking for a great meal. The service was great and the General Manager Jason took excellent care to ensure our dinner was nothing less than perfect. Thank you Sam's and thank you Jason!
Pros: Excellent Steaks, Great Wine, Service with Class
Cons: Heavy on the wallet,
I have gone here for over 7 years frequently and have the same great experience every time. Best service and filet in St. Louis. Highly recommended to all and better than Citizen Kane's.
Pros: Service, Food
GREAT FOOD, PROFESSIONAL SERVICE, PERFECT ATMOSPHERE, GREAT PLACE FOR A DATE! IT'S HARD TO FIND PERFECTION THESE DAYS BUT SAM'S HAS GOT IT DOWN TO A SCIENCE! THANKS FOR A GREAT EVENING!
Pros: YOU NAME IT....
Cons: A LITTLE PRICEY BUT DEFINITELY WORTH IT!
Sam's Steakhouse is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The decor in the lounge makes you feel like you are in a Chicago steak house from the early 1900's, the waiters come to your table dressed all in black and their service is hands down the BEST in the city. If you are an out-of-towner it's a must and if you live in the city it is the perfect place to impress a client or take a date. We started with the stuffed mushrooms which were the best I've ever had! I had the Prime Rib served Sam's style and I definitely recommend it! My wife had the peppercorn-encrusted filet and said she hadn't had a better steak! Sam's is top notch--a must!
Pros: The service, the food, the experience.
Cons: I can't think of any!
My husband and I love trying new restaraunts, and cannot believe we haven't found Sam's sooner! We just happened to drive by and read on the sign "Walk-ins Welcome," which could not have been more true. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server, Joseppie (sp?) was fantastic! He recommended a fabulous wine to pair with our exceptional dinner! The filet and shrimp was so delectable I saved half to bring home for my family to try! My new favorite dessert: the turtle cheesecake; absolutely phenomenal! Everything was above and beyond our expectations!
Pros: The quality of the food and service.
Cons: A little on the pricey side, but worth it!
We are St. Louis natives who moved to Nashville 2 year ago - I have yet to find a steak or steak restaurant that compares with Sam's. Sure they have Mortons, Flemings and all the high priced joints, but for a down home good ol' steak house we still come home to eat a Sam's for special occasions.
They have raised their prices the last couple of years and that is unfortunate - but still good when compared to the national chains.
Plan to continue to celebrate there whenever the occasion arises.
Pros: Best flavored steak, nuclear size potatoes, great service, great South County location
Cons: Getting pricey, I can't get there enough
Attached is a gift certificate in the amount of $75 which was given to me and my wife several months ago by a good friend of ours.
We attempted to use it on December 19th to entertain a member of the St. Louis Catholic clergy but, in light of the curtness expressed by your wife when we arrived, we and the priest decided to go elsewhere, and at that steakhouse, we got in immediately and were not told that we must wait for 30 minutes " like you have to do in a doctors office even though you have a reservation".
The gift certificate is of no use to us and I would not give it any of my acquaintances for fear they would receive the same rude treatment we received.
It is my guess you may not be in business too much longer because no business can survive when it handles its customers as we were handled. Even though your wife called me and apologized, I just want you to know this incident will be relayed to everyone in our St. Louis email address book (about 100 people) via the internet.
Don't drive to this place. I'm sure it's nice but it's located in the STL suburb of St. George (ZIP 63123), a notorious speedtrap and if you google "st. george, mo police" you'll find out how nasty their cops are.
My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Sam's. The meal was excellent. We both had prime rib, and we both definitely consider it to be the best prime rib around. The salads and baked potatoes were great, as well. It's really nice to go into a restaurant and not have screaming children running all over the place. We had a reservation, and were promptly seated upon arrival. I don't think I would try just walking in off the street. You might have a wait if you do. Take the extra few minutes it takes to make a reservation. The is one of the best places to celebrate special occasions, and is very romantic. WE LOVE IT!!
Pros: Romantic, excellent food and service, no screaming kids runninng around
Cons: It is a tad pricey, but for special occasions, it is GREAT...
Outrageous prices for below-par food. Service was minimal. No one should go to this restaurant to get ripped off. I would've had a better meal at Outback!!! and for 1/3 of the price.
Dress code? there is none, I could've worn sweats and been right in style with other diners.
Way too much wait time between finishing our salads and the main course - probably about 15-20 minutes. Then had to send back the steak and wait another 12-15 minutes. It was terrible-the steak and the wait.
Had to request items twice - bread, ice, etc.
The change of ownership at Sam's really shows.
We ate in the Bar area - great service - great food - great night!!! It's hard to find that these days!!
We dined at Sam's for the first time and everything was perfect. We were seated upon arrival and our server arrived at the table within minutes. We had the shrimp appitizer; it was great. I had the pepper filet for my entree and it was the best ever. For dessert we shared the Strawberry Shortcake for two also, wonderful. I suggest this steakhouse to everyone I talk to.
At $30 a pop for entrees, I should not have had the miserable experience I had at Sam's. To start, the room was freezing. Our entrees did not arrive for an hour after we ordered them. When we questioned the waitress about the length of time, she suggested that my wife's order of a medium-well steak could have been the cause. When her 6 oz. (!) steak finally arrived, it was medium rare and had to be sent back. I asked to speak to the manager, but he never bothered coming to the table. Incomprehensibly, the room was full when we left. And to top it off, Sam's obligatory steak sauce is bad (far too salty), and the twice baked potato was dry and lacking substance. The appetizers were ordinary, as were the salads. I do not expect perfection for a $30 entree, but this wasn't even close to mediocre.
Cons: Overpriced, poor service, food tasted bad
I work overseas and when ever I'm home Sam's is ALWAYs one of the place that we go out to eat. With out a doubt one one of the best in St. Louis. We also take Special folks Business, family and friends there. Simply OUTSTANDING from A_Z. Special treat at Xmas time. Jim & Joanie
Great food and great atmosphere. Sams is my 12 year old son and 14 year old daughters favorite restaurant. They really do enjoy good food. It is a little pricey so we do not get to enjoy it to often.
I cant believe no one said anything about the fried artichoke apitizer, a must try!
Pros: atnosphere, great food, location
Sam's Steakhouse definitely has one of the best prime ribs I have ever eaten. The food is a little pricey, but I guess it is like the old saying, "you get what you pay for". It is a great place to go for special occasions and a romantic place, too. I enjoy going there away from all the loud noise at a lot of other restuarants. The service is excellent, as well.
Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Romantic
Cons: Pricey, Wait
I used to love Sam's Steakhouse and looked forward to going there but that changed about almost 8 months ago. The food quality has gone down although the service is still excellent. It sems that when the dress code started to alalow shorts and sandals the food quality and atmosphere went with it. It's a shame as I took many clients, family and friends there but now its on my short list. The last visit was in February and I left in disgust and disappointment. Fatty meats and once fantastic baked potatoes were stale, cold and hard, salds that were merely lettuce and watered down drinks. Hopefully Sam's will get the hint and return to the excellence and style that it ONCE had, stop the casual, lack and return to the elegance and I will return too!
Cons: Dress code-casual
Stumbled in by accident and my son and I had the best steak and prime rib of our lives. A few months later we drove from Topeka back to St. Louis just to eat there again. Wonderful ambience, salad, appetizers - even the baked potato was spectacular. Professional waiters. Price was in line with the product. You will not be disappointed. The steak marinade is very special, made the prime rib the best ever. Don't miss it.
Pros: Service, Food, Price
Everything at this steakhouse was great! It will cost some money but you won't leave disappointed or hungry. The management and wait staff was very attentive.
Pros: Atmosphere, Food
No contest, the best steaks (flavor, quality) in the St. Louis area, with sides to match. Quiet, classy atmosphere, a good wine list, and excellent service round things out nicely. Two cautions: Leave small children with a babysitter, and don't expect to see cheap cuts (t-bone, strip, porterhouse) on the menu -- only premium food at premium prices.
Pros: superb food, good service, atmosphere
SAM'S STEAKHOUSE IS JUST GREAT FOOD WITH A NICE ATMOSPHERE. THE STEAKS ARE TENDER NOT FATTY. JUST A ALL AROUND GOOD STEAK.
Pros: GOOD PARKING, VARIETY
Sam's is not located in any trendy neighborhood, or downtown, or on the landing. There are not close to an interstate. Therfore, they have to offer something that will bring people there and keep them coming back. What they do is prepare and serve the absolutely best steaks you have tasted anywhere, regardless of price. The service has always been first rate, and the wait times have been minimal with a reservation. If you choose the baked potato, they are HUGE !! Dinner also includes salad, which for some reason, most restraunts think they need to charge you extra. If you are visiting from out of town or a native looking for great food, it is worth your while to make the drive down Gravios road and check them out.
Now this is the best steak house in the STL. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. For any special occassion I'm going to Sam's.
My wife and I decided to eat at Sam's Steakhouse after hearing about it from some of our friends, and we definitely were not let down!
over priced; better steaks at much more reasonable prices at other restaurants; waited forever to be seated, even with reservation; hostess was snobby
Im a st. louis native, but discovered this joint after years of devouring steaks in nyc. Right in my own back yard, the best steak i've ever had. Amazing filet, beyond melt in your mother, a killer homemade salad dressing and no snotty city attitudes. im in heaven. whenever i visit my dear old mum, we make a fast track to Sams. Kudos.
I just love this place. For a special occasion, it's perfect and the food is always wonderful.
The atmosphere is amoung the best, the steaks melt in your mouth!
Most people have never been to Sams I am guessing because of cost. Sams is the best steak I have ever had. If you go there try the Peppercorn Fillet and you won't be dissapointed.
Oh....don't forget the salad. The house vinageret is Awesome!!!!
I have traveled all over both domestic and international. Sams has always been great.
Food the steaks always right, service always good. The filet is the best, Ihave tried others but it's the best.
I just took my wife back to Sams for our 25th weeding annv. A couple of years since we had been still wonderful.
Pros: food preperation, service good
Sam's is by far one of the premier steakhouses in the St. Louis area. Service is always attentive without being intrusive and the quaility of all dinner entres are superb.
We did a banquet room for a 50 plus person birthday party. The banquet food and service was equal to that of most dining rooms I've eaten in, no small feat for a banquet setting. Steaks were excellent quality and cooked properly. Service was also outstanding. Sam's is always a winner.
The Steak was solid, but the twiced-baked potato was awesome!! It's a meal in itself!!
