The Mad Hatter

We used Mad Hatter to clean our air ducts & chimney. We got the free chimney cleaning with air ducts cleaned. Their price beat anyone else that I called for an estimate. They seemed to do a good job on the air ducts although I didn't really watch them the whole time. They left very little mess to clean up afterwards. They said the chimney should not be used until we had a large crack repaired which they could do for $1500. Always one to get a second opinion on expensive repairs, I called another company for an inspection. They said there was nothing wrong with the chimney & that they would have only charged $450. to do what Mad Hatter wanted to do. Call them for the best price on air duct & chimney cleaning but get a second opinion before having them fix anything.

We used Mad Hatter to clean our air ducts and do a chimney inspection. They offered a free chimney sweep with air duct cleaning. They did an adequate job at cleaning the air ducts (they did fail to do 2 air ducts in the basement that were pointed out to them in the pre-cleaning walk through). But as far as the chimney sweeping went, they did very little. They cleaned out the fire box but didn't check the damper, the flue or anything else. Their recommendation was that we remove the insert and have a new one installed (they'd be happy to do it for $3,000) We had a second inspection done and were given the all clear to use our fireplace. No problems at all this winter.
