This is a great, neighborhood Veterinarian. They have 3 doctors on staff full time, and at least 2 of them are always on duty. I've taken my dogs here for years. Recently my girlfriend's 5 year old orange tabby cat got ill. The staff were able to work us in that morning. She was hesitant since she had never been there before. The staff, and Dr. McChord were fantastic and put us at ease right away. The Vet tech knew just how to handle her sick cat and make him feel at ease. They have had the same staff here for YEARS so it must be a good place to work. The cost is low, but the quality of service is the highest. I read some other reviewers describe this as a "Shady Neighborhood". Are you kidding me?? You must not get out much or around St. Louis because there are far worse places. In any event Lemay Animal Hospital has staff who really CARE about animals. They totally rebuilt my Miniature Schnauzer's urinary tract in 2003. You might find a newer building but you will NOT find better Vets nor bigger friends of animals than at this wonderful hidden gem of a Pet Hospital.

I absolutely give 2 thumbs up for this establishment. It may be a small, dated clinic in a sketchy neighborhod per other reviews; I see an older established vet. clinic in a South City neighborhood. The staff and her doctors are extremely caring and attentative. I recently had my 3rd cat put to sleep at the clinic and the love was there for both of us. If your looking for pressed lab coats, nicely lined parking lots and and someone calling "Numbers"...you do have the wrong clinic. However, this is the trade-off. You have a staff that care for you and your pet. They are compassionate, caring and understanding. They take time in answering questions and calls. If you are looking for a vet clinic who specializes in "care" this is the place for you.

We took our Shi Tzu there for surgery. For a week she was doing well and then she started limping really bad near the surgery. We took her back and the first thing out of the doctor's mouth was "it isn't because of the surgery". He said it was probably arthritis, which she never had before the surgery, and he put her on Rimadyl. That was about 5 weeks ago. Today she can hardly breath, can't walk, has no control of her bladder and cries out in so much pain that she doesn't even sound like an animal. So today, we are taking her to someone else and she will probably have to be put to sleep. BEWARE of Rimadyl and the doctors who prescribe it without providing a warning. Before you give it to your animal, please research it because it could kill your pets.

I have been going to Lemay Animal Hospital for almost 25 years now. The staff is very friendly and the doctors are very compasionate and work well with my pets. I like going there because they treat my pets with loving care and unless they have to do surgery they do all the work in front of me instead of taking my pet in the back where I don't know what is happening. I used to live 5 minutes away but now live in Imperial, Mo which is about 20 miles from Lemay. It is worth the drive for us. I have refered a few of my friends who now go to Lemay Animal Hospital. Other than for an emergency when they are not open, I would not take my pets anywhere else!

The facility is small and dated but the vets and staff are top notch. They care about the pets and the owner. They listen to your concerns and provide as good of care for the animals as any large animal hospital.

My family has been taking our pets to this establishment for as long as I can remember. I helped my mom wrangle our critters into the car for the trip to the vet's when I was a kid, so I've known my own critter's vets for my whole life. I wouldn't take my cats to be treated by someone I didn't trust, and these guys are caring, compassionate, genuine animal-lovers. As stated in some of the other reviews, these fellows aren't in the business for the money - their prices are very reasonable and give high-quality care.

I've also had the sad duty to take some of our furry children in to be put to sleep over the years, due to cancer and other advancing or advanced illnesses. These doctors have stayed with me when I needed them to and gave me space when I needed them to. Again, compassionate, caring doctors. You'd be hard-pressed to find better care for your pets, in this region.

Highly, highly recommended!

Lemay Animal Hospital has taken care of the pets of four generations of my family. Another reviewer has spoken badly of the area; however, these vets are in it for the animals, not for the money. It is a lower income area, but a clean and honest one. Many of the area residents make sure that their animals are taken care of before they take care of themselves; and the vets take that into consideration with their prices. They also care about their patients as well as their patients' people. I have had to have two pets euthanized due to aggressive cancers; and the doctors and staff have been empathetic and extremely caring.

My family has used Lemay Animal Hospital for over 40 years. My grandparents took their pets there, my parents took our dogs there, and now, as an adult, I take mine there. All three doctors are WONDERFUL, and the staff is superb. For your basic check-ups, shots, and minor problems (stitches, upset tummies, etc), it's top-notch. Their prices are low(er), compared to larger vets. This is not a place to buy high-end dog food, toys, or other pet products - nor is it a full-service animal hospital with round-the-clock care. The building is old, yes - but it's not falling down around you! I would rather pay less and know that I'm actually paying for vet care instead of designer decorating and satellite TV in the waiting room. Yes, the hours are a little wonky, but it's also easy to get a same-day or next-day appointment, and you don't have to hock your jewelry to treat your pet. You're also seen on time or even early if you're there. The neighborhood, just at the city/county line, is fine. I have never felt worried or concerned about being there any time of day/evening. It's convenient for city-dwellers (like me) and South County dwellers (like my grandparents). If you're looking for a small-town feel with an exceptional, caring staff, look no further than Lemay Animal Hospital.

I took my cat their for spaying and shots and while they are reasonable in their cost, the neighborhood and building are a little shady. They also have odd hours and are iffy about communication. I wouldn't have driven so far to save a few bucks if I could do it again.

PROS: Decent prices
CONS: Delapidated and quirky staff
