Such a disappointing Museum. Chicago Art Museum and Nelson-Atkins Art Museum in KC are always offering new shows. Shows that appear in Chicago, often skip St. Louis and go onto KC. KC has such an amazing amount of outside sculpture. A Must Visit Museum...inside and out...Indianapolis Art Museum is small, but then Robert Indiana's LOVE is there...When visiting any city...my first research is to see if they have an Art Museum available. Of course > The musee d' orsay & du louvre...awhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

We love the St. Louis Art Museum. The staff is friendly and helpful. The art is amazing. There are always interesting exhibits going on that are certainly worth the admission price. The rest is free. Parking can be hard, but still not a huge issue. The outside surroundings are breathtaking and serene.

My entire family loves the St. Louis Art Museum. They have a wide variety of exhibits and their special exhibits are always very interesting and worth the admission price. They are also very friendly to people with young children - and accept them as regular museum goers - which is very important when you are trying to expose your children to the arts.

The St. Louis Art Museum located in Forest Park is a treasure for the city and has exhibits that everyone in your family will enjoy seeing.

Free to the public (special exhibits might cost a small fee) and located in the middle of Forest Park around the corner from the Zoo, the Art Museum should be a must do on everyone's list.

There are extensive paintings from all the major periods of art, with a couple panels of Monet's Water Lillies as a focal point. The artifacts, pottery and jewelry are breathtaking in their intricacy and beauty.

Pieces depicting local art throughout history has a special area and the Native American exhibits are a highlight.

The Saint Louis Art Museum is another great location to take the family if you enjoy art or history. Its one of those locations that shows you that art is just more then paintings and sculptures. They have many collections and exhibits on display that change often. There is also a library, gift shop and dining area.

Although it can't compete with museums in such cities as New York or Chicago, the Saint Louis Art Museum is still a fun place to wander through on a rainy day. They have a small representation from most every period and style. I find their decorative collection, found on the basement level, particularly nice. My favorite thing about the museum, however, is their family program every Sunday afternoon. They have a new kid's educational activity every week, FREE. Oh, admission is also free to the public, thank you, St. Louis, for that!

yet another way to spend a day in Forest park - filled with culture. The Art Museum's enormous Monet is enough to bring adults clamoring. Free admission, amazing exhibits, and don't miss the Mummy exhibit downstairs. Even the kids love that one.

St Louis Art Museum is a great place to visit. there are 3 floors of wonderful paintings and sculptures and lots of other works of art to see. I really don't know much about art at all but I love going here and spending hours looking around. They really do have a lot of thing to see. My favorite is the mummy. I remember going to see it when I was little know I take my kids to see it. It really is a beautiful place to visit.

The Saint Louis Art Museum is a must see destination in Saint Louis. It houses many sculptures, paintings, and designs to please anyone's artisitc side. With some local artists intermingled with some well know artist to make a feast for the eyes and for the soul. Located in beautiful Forest Park near downtown Saint Louis, it is in the center of the many activites Forest Park offers. So, if you are looking for an eventful evening, visit the Art Museum in Forest Park and the other sites to see. My fiance and I have visited the Art Museum on several occasions and enjoy the theme it gives off. We have visited with different exibits entering and have enjoyed ourselves every time. We also enjoy the rest of Forest Park that comes with the Art Museum and the fancy art it portrays. This is a great date for my fiance and I.

The St. Louis art museum is another great FREE attraction the city provides. its a great place to go if you are looking for something to do on a rainy day or any day for that matter.

As a novice, I thoroughly enjoy just walking around and viewing the different exhibits. They have several floors of artwork to view. My kids and I also really enjoy the actual mummy they have on display.

The St. Louis Art Museum is a very interesting place to visit. There are several exhibits to view, so plan on spending hours at the museum. However, I felt like it wasn't a place that I would visit over and over again. Once is enough!

This is a world class art musuem hidden in St. Louis's Forrest Park. There is some parking within the park, but the best way to get there is to walk or take a public bus. The metrolink train also stops near Forrest Park within walking distance of the park. A lot of weddings take place near this location.

PROS: World Class Art
CONS: Parking

While the St. Louis Art Museum is not the MoMA, it nonetheless boasts a great art collection, including plenty of lesser works by great artists. While it doesn't house the Mona Lisa, it does have works by Van Gogh and Monet, as well as exemplary collections of Mediaeval arms and art, Oceanic, African, and Asian art, and of course the European and American painting galleries! Admission is free, except to special exhibits, which are free on Fridays only.

PROS: free, great collection of paintings
CONS:

How this place has escaped the notice of National Geographic or Smithsonian magazines is beyond me. The permanent collection is extensive and exceptional. The temporary and traveling exhibits are appropriate for a family museum and of excellent quality and reputation. The grounds are beautiful (Forest Park--site of the 1904 World's Fair) and parking is free and generally close to the museum. The museum staff is a little on the "brisk" side, being very quick to reprimand visitors for getting too close to some exhibits or using flash cameras, but perhaps this is necessary to protect a world class art collection from the over-appreciative public which sometimes comes through the museum.

After having visited museums around the world, I was shocked at the rudeness of the guards at SALM when I moved here. After several occaisions, I have given up on the "bad day" theory and cancelled my mebership. Their collection isn't good enough to justify the hassle. Add the pathetic choice of eats and inconvenient handicapped / stroller entrance, and the trip to the museum ceases to be enjoyable whatsoever.

It's a great place to take kids. There are so many things to look at. They also have several special exhibits throughout the year for a nominal fee, but it's usually worth it.

It's a small collection compared to the museum in Chicago where I tend to get overwhelmed with seeing everything I can, instead of enjoying what's actually there. The smallness and quality of artwork in this museum makes it one of the best of I have visited.

the St. Louis Art Museum takes the cake for me as far as museums go in the St. Louis Area. The view when you look up to the hill where the Statue on top of the horse is located is something to see with the Museum as a background. When you go in you can't help but notice elegant floors, impressive wall designs and of course the sculptures. As you branch off there are 2 levels if I'm not mistaken it's been a couple of years since I've been able to go. Yet the main thing that draws me is the Egypt exibit;) Also below are rooms for discussions and lectures given by top professors around the country. They also have a store where you can buy items ranging from jewelry to postcards. The paintings are beautiful and the sculptures are amazing.
