I am a professional musician who is VERY particular about my horns. I recently took my tenor sax (a vintage 1927 gold-plated Conn) to Antioch Music Center JUST TO HAVE THE NECK CORK REPLACED, AND CHECKED FOR LEAKS... I was a little

I don't know how you could not like the employees at Antioch Music. They are all very friendly and know what they're talking about. If you had a bad experience with anyone up there then you are obviously one of those "impossible to please" customers and complain about everything. Go somewhere else then! Antioch has been around for years. They're obviously doing something right if Guitar Center hasn't put them out of business. I don't really care for the big name brand shops. Support your local guys not the corporates!

Pros: Friendly customer service and quick turn arounds

Cons: They could be open a bit more :)

Today I braved the icy roads of my neighborhood to venture out to my local music store. Being of independent mind on issues of commerce, I have time and time again visited Antioch Music even though they regularly have overpriced items and a complete lack of selection. Nevertheless, I usually suffer such irregularities to give my money to the independent businessman.
However, I realized something today which will certainly make it so that I never visit them again: I really dislike the arrogant demeanor in which the fat, bearded clerk conducts himself. To add to this problem, you cannot buy, no matter which combination you choose, guitar strings by the single pack. I mean, you can't even buy ONE package of acoustic strings and ONE package of electric strings. That's completely absurd. Talk about your power trips. It's a wonder that Antioch Music still exists. Someone had to have sold their soul to Satan himself to keep this blighted turd afloat month after month. I suggest never giving patronage to this D-list entity if you want to be satisfied with your purchasing experience. In fact, from now on, I'll probably be going to either Big Dude's Music City or Guitar Source.....two REAL music stores.

I really don't like leaving negative reviews, especially ones on a local business. That being said, I have been a customer and student at Antioch Music for 20 years. I started taking piano lessons when the store was at Antioch mall at age 9 and then moved on to drum lessons in middle school. Today I bypassed the musicians friend which happens to be conveniently located near my home to make a small purchase at a locally owned music store . After arriving at Antioch music I realized that the selection of drum sticks were very limited and very overpriced ($4 a pair more than Musicians Friend) and many of the sticks had no matching pair. After settling on a couple pair to get me through rehearsal, I proceeded to checkout. The overweight bearded man at the counter walked to the stick area to retrieve the pricing and rang me up. I gave him my debit card, he ran it and then handed me my card upside down with a pen and told me to sign the back of my card. I told him I would prefer not to but offered to show two forms of ID. He very rudely told me he would check my ID after I signed my card and if I didn't like that I didn't have to purchase the items. At this point I realized it was some weird power trip. I normally would have gone to the ATM and returned to complete my purchase but the way he composed himself I decided not to. He may have had a point with the signature but his demeanor was unprofessional and I will never return. I recommend Big Dudes. It's local, great selection with a friendly staff that are more in tune with today's musicians.

Pros: Not Corporate

Cons: Not Corporate or (Without Standards)

Being a music teacher, I appreciate a good music store. They are courteous to the students and parents, will order in anything the teacher asks for and have a good rental program for schools.
