Part of the good news is that this restaurant is a bit off the beaten path, however, do make reseervations. Everything on the menu seems to be prepared with care and love so go with several people so you can each try many offerings. On the other hand, it is a kind of romantic place to go with a date, so you choose. It is a bit pricey but not really for all you get here.
The only reason to hit this section of town (just east of the River Market area, is to eat at Garozzos, and it's worth the drive. The ambiance hits you as soon as you hit the front door and see the candlelight and brick walls. A great date place. Try the Spedini Samantha.
I'm from KC although living in Nebraska for school, and Garozzo's is where we go for an awesome night out. Excellent food, great atmosphere, and you're given the attention as if you were their only customer. At first glance you might call it a bit pricey, however the prices are right in line with other upscale restaurants in the same upscale arena.
THE place to go to celebrate, treat yourself, or just hang with a friend to eat and drink wine.
We had a rehearsal dinner party at the Lee's summit restaurant. Great friendly service. We used the option 2 dinner with the steak and chicken, ravioli appetizer, house salad and cannolli, all were wonderful. The room was split into two which made it a bit tight, we had 50 people. The room on the left was a bit nicer, and the bar for our side was outside of the room. I would highly recommend it for your party.
16th anniversary, asked for secluded table.... had reservations, running a little late but hurrying.... called and they said "OH WELL", got there on-time, got seated, crowded, noisey and the food was less than desirable. Calamarie was overcooked and tasted like rubber, the food was over-rated..... we asked for the bread to be wrapped as it was good....... the waitress acted suprised that we didn't want the food to be wrapped also..... toss it...... thier signature spadini was terrible..... walking out and some waiter busted between my wife and I and stopped me as she went on. He BS'd with someone and I had to look at the back of his head.......
16th anniversary dinner was shot..... I WILL NOT go back and will voice my opinions to all I can....
Pros: Waitress wasn't bad
Cons: Noisey, crowded, food wasn't great
very friendly and attentive wait staff, managers, etc... great food with a variety of options to choose from and a great wine list
Pros: fresh, great-tasting food
Cons: none to mention
A great experience every time. If you're like my family and don't get the chance to eat out often, you don't want to waste the few opportunities you do get on "so-so" food. Garozzo's always delivers excellence. An easy choice.
Pros: The food. The atmosphere. The stuffed artichoke.
Cons: I don't get there often enough.
We have been going to Garozzo's for years. We celebrate all of our special occassions here. It was my 50th Birthday. They brought us the wrong food twice, snap up my drivers license and said, "Another Birthday" and stormed off. Yelled, "You got a free Chicken Spedinni didn't you" when I asked for my free dessert. Talked to the manager about it and he did not care and seemed annoyed. We usually tip over 25%. We left nothing and my birthday celebration was heart breaking. I left there in tears.
Pros: Great Bartender
Cons: Rude Waiter Uncaring Manager
I like the Kansas City, MO location on Harrison the best. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm at a little Italian cafe' in Italy. My favorite spadini is the "Garozzo" literally mouth watering. Anytime I have clients or friends in from out of town...I make sure that I take them to Garozzo's. LOVE IT!!
Pros: They have several locations in the metro area.
Cons: You have to make a reservation for a Friday or Saturday evening.
I dine here all the time. The service is wonderful, the atmosphere is beautiful. A true top notch resturant! Great Calamari - excellent Tortellini. Great place for a date.
You always see these review go dont go! But I think that you should try it for yourself In my opinion it's my favorite place! But hey thats me! I love the steak geno! yumm It's worth the wait! sometimes the wait is long ans sometimes its short! But if its long dosnt that say somthing?? Yes it says so many people want to go there! I reccommend you try it!
Pros: Great Party place
This place is to die for...! Wow my kids love it my husband loves it i love it!!!! Its great!! herschel anderson Two Words The COOLEST!! the food is great the atmosphere is great the parking the EVERYTHING!!!!!!!
GO GO GO GO
Pros: Herschel Anderson, Friendly People, Romantic
THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL AS WAS THE ATMOSPHERE. THE SERVICE WAS THE BEST OF ANY RESTURANT I HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST YEAR. THE STEAK MARSALA WAS FANTASTIC...YOU COULD CUT IT WITH A FORK!!! IT MAY SEEM A LITTLE PRICEY BUT NOT FOR WHAT YOU GET
This is raunchy Italian to say the most about an Italian boy who thinks its the 1940's. Garlic prevails here and to say the best about it is NOTHING!
Garozzo's has the best chicken spidini in town and the atmosphere is great! order the Tarimisu as well its worth the extra!!! My wife and I love to come to this restaurant all the time. If you go on your birthday you get the spidini entree on the house!!!!!!!
They use garlic in everything including the drinking water!
The garlic is on steroids here.
Chicken spedini was very dry.
Good pasta. Sauce would have been good with 1/3rd the garlic.
Large portions.
This is classic immigrant Italian -- not gourmet but exactly what Kansas Citians want.
Pros: , loud, not gourmet
Cons: , Garlic, GARLIC
Italian food doesn't get better than this! One of THE best meals I've ever had! A restaurant not to be missed if you're in the Kansas City area. The stuffed artichoke was amazing and the chicken speidini is to die for! I can't wait to go back again.
Pros: delicious, great wine list, wonderful experience
This is the best Italian restaurant in KC. The original one is the best. KC is lucky that Mike moved here from The Hill in St. Louis. The home of chicken spedini.
Pros: awesome food, great service, great music
I've eaten in Italian Restaurants in San Francisco, Boston and lived in Italy for four years and I am simply amazed that this place receives a 9.5. It is average at best and the food quality and presentation is below par. I have eaten at three of the Garozzo's in the metro area and wonder who writes these reviews.
ALL of the food was over loaded with garlic. Not just a little too much, but loads of plain raw garlic.
The service was way below what one would expect for this caliber of restaurant. The salads were soggy and wilted. DON'T GO!
Pros: Nice Atmosphere
Cons: , Service
I like the Independence location best. It is on 40 Hwy just West of Noland Road a few miles. The food is awesome and the wait staff are very professional and helpful. I have recommended Garozzo's to several people and they too have the same opinion as myself.
Pros: romantic, fun, great food
Cons: poor parking, small waiting area
Best Italian Food Anywhere! Tortellini Gina or Chicken Samantha and watch the pounds go on.
The best of the best. Ate in Overland Park.
Brought in my Mom straight from a late flight from the airport. We were treated royally from start to finish. They even accomodated one of our party with vegetarian and lactose intolerant fare.
From greeters to servers to check out people these people could not be improved upon.
Food was superb, choices excellent...ambience not to be improved upon, and best of all the combination allowed everyone to relax and unwind.
Recommend, recommend, recommend
Pros: staff, food, prices
Cons: nada
I've lived in Kansas City for all 27 years of my life and in a city with so many fine restaraunts, my choice is Garozzo's in the Columbus Park area. The atmosphere, the service, the people that go, and don't forget the food. By far, a cut above the rest, in fact calling it the BEST does it no justice because they go beyond that. Thank you Michael Garozzo for having what I consider the best place to eat in Kansas City.
The food may be good, but everything else about the Garozzo's in Overland Park is not. The last 2 times I've been to Garozzo's the waiter attempted to set the land speed record for getting patrons out the door.
Being from St. Louis and having eaten many times on "The Hill", this is the closest I can find to it. I have heard the owner use to have a restaurant on the Hill or is related to someone there. My only problem is the price. Much pricier than "The Hill" Nothing like that St. Louis family owned Italian Restaurant which knows what "Provel" cheese really is.
I have been to quite a few places in my life. Have tried all types of food where ever I go. This is the bst italina food I have ever tasted.
Pros: good parking in indep, courteous staff, great atmosphere
Cons: crowded after 5:30
best Italian I've had in KC. The service is outstanding, copious quantities of food. The steak modiga can literally be cut with a fork and melts in your mouth. Have never had a meal that wasn't first rate.
For the best Raviolli appatizer in the country you need only to stop in at Garrozo's. I have never had a meal form the menu I did not love. The after dinner coffees are also quite wonderful.
Pros: Great food, Reasonable prices
Garozzo's is the best thing that's happened to Kansas City Italian and is far better than Jasper's Carmen's Cafe (who stole all their dishes!) and Buca Di Beppo. Their atmosphere is enticing and their food is phenomenal. This is a great place to bring a first date because it is very romantic or a big party because the can accomadate numbers. I wouln't go anywhere else.
Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere
Hey, goombah...listen up, capiche? Dis is da real deal, just like Mama used to make it back in Sicily.
Chicken Spidini to kill for...come to think of it, I did!
My pizano Michael Garozzo will look after ya and make sure you get what ya want , when ya want it.
If youse still got room, try one of doze decadent desserts and wash 'em down with some cappucino.
Mama, Mia...it's da best.
Pros: incredible food, excellent service, huge portions
Cons: limited parking, no non-smoking, crowded on weekends
If you want Italian in Kansas City, this is the place. Go to the one on Harrison for the most authentic "old Italian" atmosphere. Amazing food!
My favorite restaurant in KC, PERIOD!!!!!
Michael Garozzo blows the competition out of the water with his authentic Italian fare, as well as having some of the best wait staff and bartenders in the KC Metro area. With the large entree portions, no one should leave this restaurant hungry. But why would you want to leave, when you can leave you table for the bar for an after-dinner drink and cigar?
Pros: Variety, Ambience, Service
Cons: Wait time (weekends)
Garozzo's food, and service make it a favorite dining spot for my wife and I on date nights. Try the spadini!
A most pleasurable experience. The atmosphere was romantic yet upbeat.
THE MOST WONDERFUL ITALIAN FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD IN ANY ITALIANO RISTORANTE!!!! (and yes, I meant to use all caps) The service has always been great. Ireally like the way they look out for their customers, coming in and going out. What acomfortable, family feeling.
Pros: great food, good security, welcoming staff
The ambiance and decor are beautiful and enhance your dining experience. This food could be served in any atmosphere and still be luscious though. Every item that I have had is wonderfully prepared and presented. Compliments to all involved.
Pros: beautiful, convenient locale
Cons: crowded, need reservations
Garozzo's provides a real treat to those who like to eat. I especially like the stuffed artichokes [to die for!] and the Tortellini Gina [sound of smacking lips]. Service is friendly and efficient, and the ambience is purely delightful from the music to the decor.
Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Place
Cons: A little hard to find
Great place to eat. Many menu selections for people of all ages. Salad with meals to fill you up. Always fresh, always friendly.
How could any place in KC compare to Garozzo's? The best italian anywhere! Bring your kids and order the 3-way pasta for them, they'll be eating this 5 pound platter for days! Chicken Spiedini is their specialty, it will melt in your mouth, forget about it! I have never had a bad experience at this place. Frankie, Dean, and Tony will sing to you to add to the atmosphere. (Sinatra, Martin, and Bennett)
Pros: Great food, service, atmosphere
Cons: Wait, if late
We order the chicken speidini every time. Downtown atmosphere is very Italian.
Excellent food, service and always leftovers to take home! They have incredible breads, pasta, and great drinks.
Pros: great food, great service, convenient
Cons: eat too much, could be crowded
