I took an earring making class there and it was really great. The instructor was nice and the class size was small so she would help you individually if you needed it. You have to purchase your materials and pay a class fee, so I think I spent about $30 or so, but it was fun and they have a great selection of beads, yarn and tons of other craft items. Bring your girlfriends and lean a new craft!

Urban Arts and Crafts in the Rivermarket district of Kansas City and offers a wide variety of crafting supplies, from scrapbooking albums and paper, to yarn and fabric. Their staff members are very helpful and will quickly get to know you by name, asking you about the progress of your projects, etc. Because of the popularity of the district (though there are usually few shoppers in this particular store), parking can be a hassle; be sure to take advantage of the somewhat hidden lot across the street.

PROS: knowledgeable and friendly staff
CONS: due to the wide variety of items, each individual craft's sctn is limited

This store carries all kinds of art and craft items hard to find anywhere else in Kansas City. Some items include beads, buttons, knitting supplies, fabric, embroidery, mosaic, jewelry supplies, papers, ect. They also have an arts and crafts night to get together and knit or discuss projects(free) and they also offer a lot of classes for beginning and expert knitters, scrapbookers, jewelry makers and many other art and craft subjects.
