I'm only leaving 1 star because 0 is not allowed. This place is terribly mismanaged and condo fees are rediculas. When I moved here I thought Oakville was supposed to be a good neighborhood, but I was sadly mistaken. The parking lot has several broken down cars on it that are either stolen or abandoned by someone who doesn't live here and management has not responded or removed these vehicles. I'm also sick and tired of the dr ug dealer in my building that constantly beats his girlfriend. The vagrants and dr ug addicts coming in and out of the building at all hours of the night really makes me feel safe. Before you buy here you might as well move to a nicer complex, down on one of the state streets or somewhere in East St. Louis. When getting out of your car watch out because you might trip over a syringe or a cra ck pipe.

Pros: Cra ck is cheap and readily available

Cons: you can't park here because someone stole a car and left it in your spot for 3 months

This complex is getting better. As the renters leave and the owners move in it is getting much better. The renters have shown little to no concern for taking care of the property. The new owners moving in are completely rehabbing the condos and taking care of the grounds. Pride of ownership is beggining to show in this complex. The new rule not allowing owners to rent is working. The new crowd of people moving in seem top notch and are taking care of the places. This place is in a great location and a good buy for the money.

I would like to respond to "Stay as far away from this place as possible".
I would like to say that I love it here. Yes, there is a lot of work that needs to be done around here, but as you said, this is a complex that is over 35 years old. In the time that I have lived here, I have noticed great improvements. The area is cleaner and the buildings are much nicer looking than before.
The maintenance crew may not be so professional but they do get the work done and for a lot less than many companies would charge. Condo fees are high, I agree, but I am also hopeful that one day they will go down. If everyone in the complex would do their part and keep the area presentable, maybe they would not have to fine people for violations. I have noticed people throwing trash on the grounds, walking their dogs and not picking up after them. I can walk into a building and there is trash all over the steps of their hallways. These are things that make the area look bad. Not management, not maintenance. As far as the grass not being cut, I don't know where you live, but my lawn is cut every Tuesday, like clock work from a professional lawn company. In the winter, I was awakened many a morning by trucks cleaning my driveway, so that I can get out for work. I never missed a day of work due to my driveway not being cleared( and I have a steep driveway).
I will agree that the pool is not the best, it does need work, but it is opened every year for all to enjoy. I know that it was late in opening this year due to the rainy spring and I have never seen the pool not cleaned or to be considered unsanitary.
I just feel that people should hear good about Oakville Commons too.

Well where to begin? Lets start with the horribly mismanaged condo association. They have no business trying (and trying is even a very loose term) to run or maintain the condos or the grounds. They have went from loosing everyones money to now coming up with silly fees and raising condo fees to a enormous amount for 35 yr old condos they have literally had residents cars towed to collect on the fees. They will find the cheapest person around to do any of the work to either the condos themselves or the maintenance to the communal grounds, thats if they do not try to piece it together themselves with a crew that i wouldn't let work on government housing. In the summertime the grass is never cut or maintained, the pool should be shut down for sanitary reasons (just take a look for yourselves and you will see right away), the walls surrounding the main entrance are about to collapse, in the winter time do not plan on making it to work or even out of your parking spot because the crew is one guy with a shovel(again cheapest around) or until you get tired and do it yourself. As i am writing this there is a total of 10 condos for sale because people are bailing not because this couldn't be a nice place to live but because of the horribly managed condo association and the company that owns them. Take this as a warning and stay as far away from this place as possible. Buy a newer condo for close to the same price with half the condo fees and a group of individuals that should be running the association and not the poor pathetic attempts of management that we have here!

We had the honor of evaluating these condos as we were looking for permanant housing in this area. We were pleased with what we saw and had we chosen to go with a condo, we would have chosen Black Forest
